We connected through this platform and met for the first time a few days later. Devi is an incredibly friendly woman who guided me perfectly throughout the week, both at school and beyond. I was able to stand in front of the class and share my own experiences about their country. We also had wonderful conversations about the students' dreams and discussed various topics related to their future. Finally, they gave me a traditional shirt and we had a video call with my students and colleagues in Belgium. What an experience! Thank you so much for this opportunity. On Friday, the school took me to a beautiful location outside the school. A fantastic experience I'll never forget. It was amazing to see this educational system! Highly recommended, for sure!

Our stay with Nick and Judy was absolutely wonderful, and we couldn’t have asked for more welcoming or caring hosts. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like part of the family. They genuinely cared about our wellbeing, if we weren’t feeling well, they encouraged us to rest and take the day off, and would check in to make sure we were okay. Their kindness really stood out and meant so much to us. The work itself was fun, varied, and really enjoyable. We spent time in the garden and got to help with making jam and tasks like labelling, packing, or organising the jam room. It was fun, relaxed, and we always felt appreciated for what we did. Nick and Judy were also super generous. Whenever they went grocery shopping, they’d buy things for us, and when we offered to pay them back, they refused. They also often drove us 30 minutes to the train station when we wanted to go somewhere, which was such a big help. They’re also amazing cooks, every meal was delicious and conversation at mealtimes was always enjoyable and pleasant. Their whole family was lovely too: their son Henry, his wife, and their little baby were all really sweet and welcoming. And of course, we fell in love with their animals, the horses, the chickens and their dog Polly. They even let us name the baby chicks which was very exciting. They were also really understanding and easygoing, such as when our alarms didn’t go off and we accidentally slept in, there was no stress. We honestly can’t recommend Nick and Judy enough to other Workawayers. They’re genuine, caring people who go above and beyond for their volunteers. Thank you guys for everything!

Talley was an exceptional host! I stayed with her for a few days in her apartment in Wiesbaden and then for a few days in her parents' guesthouse. Wiesbaden is a great city, and going out to Talley's parents' was a refreshing city break. Talley was so fun and made me feel right at home. She is a great cook, and I learned a lot about food preparation and reducing food waste from her. I worked with her in her garden one afternoon, which was lovely. I also helped move furniture to her parents' place and did some cleaning. Talley was great about offering a really generous balance of work time and exploring time. She had great recommendations of things to do and gave very helpful advice for getting around the area. Talley was a great communicator throughout my stay, and I really enjoyed my time with her. I could not recommend Talley enough!

Overall, I had a good experience on the farm. I stayed for six weeks, from mid-July to the end of August, helping with tomato harvesting. Below is a summary of my experience to help others decide if this placement is a good fit for them: Environment and Lifestyle • The farm is located in a quiet rural area. • Best suited for people who enjoy a calm lifestyle. • Company is limited to 1 to 3 other Workawayers at most times. If you need lots of social contact, this may not be the best place for you. • I came with a friend, which made the experience more enjoyable. • There are only a few animals on the farm (a dog, chickens, and cats in the main house only). Work and Schedule • Harvesting tomatoes was easy and could be done while listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks on headphones. • You need a basic level of fitness. If you have issues with your knees or back, this may not be the work for you. • We worked between 1 to 3 hours per day, depending on the weather and amount of work available. The working hours were shorter than I expected. • Days off were usually given when the weather was bad, but we also could tell the host when we wanted a specific day off to go hiking or sightseeing. He always accommodated these requests. • In my experience, this is not a money-saving opportunity due to limited work hours and some extra expenses, but you earn enough to get by. Accommodation and Living • The main accommodation for Workawayers is a small container house next to the host’s home. It can accommodate up to two people and includes a toilet and a basic kitchen with one cooking plate and pan. There is also an outdoor shower. The small container house is comfortable for one to two people but does not offer much privacy. • When four Workawayers were staying on the farm, two were placed in the host’s house. I was not in the main house, but I was told that there is a room with a toilet on the upper level. Anyone staying in the host’s house had to be silent after 8:30 pm. • Workawayers staying in the host’s house still had to cook and do laundry in the small container house and use the outdoor shower. Due to the limited space and resources, it felt a bit crowded at times. Cooking and laundry require coordination with others. There was enough space on the veranda of the container house for everyone to spend time together in the evenings. • You need to buy your own supplies, such as rubbish bags, basic cleaning utensils, cooking oil, and spices. You are also responsible for disposing of your own rubbish at the local collection point. Basically, you are living in your own household, separate from the host. Transport and Free Time • Access to a staff car was provided for grocery shopping and sightseeing. The car was a big benefit and made it much easier to explore the area. As the car is for personal use only, you have to pay for gas yourself. • You need a driver’s licence (or a friend who can drive), as you’ll need to drive to get groceries. The nearest convenience store is approximately a 30-minute walk from the farm. The grocery store is a 25-minute drive. • Bus services run to and from the town, but as this is a rural area, they do not run frequently. You also have to walk 30 minutes to get to the bus stop. • The region offers a lot of opportunities for hiking, beach days, and visiting nearby towns. We had a good amount of time off to enjoy the surroundings. TL;DR This Workaway experience suits people who are independent and enjoy quiet farm life, nature, hiking, and the beach. You will need to be self-sufficient and flexible with shared spaces. I recommend having a driver’s licence, as it will enable you to go grocery shopping and explore the area with the staff car. There are cool mountains and beaches nearby. In my experience, it is not an opportunity to save money, but you can get by with the money you earn.

Staying with Martina and Antony was a wonderful experience. I truly enjoyed being part of their family and daily life. Their garden is absolutely beautiful — full of palm trees, herbs, and tropical plants — it really feels like a small piece of paradise. I learned so much about herbs and herbalism from Antony, and I loved the family’s creative spirit. Painting and decorating the little flower pots was such a fun and inspiring activity. There are so many great opportunities in this Workaway: yoga sessions, learning about herbal remedies, picking exotic fruits… every day brought something new and interesting. It was quite an experience for me and I have to admit that I was out of my comfort zone especially since I usually work behind a computer! I also enjoyed the cooking moments — preparing Polish pierogi and sharing a bit of my culture with everyone was a real pleasure. Martina and Antony are truly warm-hearted and welcoming people. This Workaway is a very special place, full of creativity, kindness, and opportunities to learn and grow. Highly recommended!

We had a good time with Rosita. She is a tough worker with skills in carpentry. She is a heartful and sensitive Person. Sometimes Rosita preferred working by herself, feeling overwhelmed by too many people. Nevertheless she always was accurate in her work and left us a beautiful wooden furniture. Definitely I can recommend her.

Isabella spent 3 weeks on our farm. We had a really great time with Isabella. She is a very kind woman, motivated at work, not having any issues about tasks or starting to work in the early morning! Isabella is an open minded, great interlocutor as we had good talks and a lot of fun while eating together or sitting around the campfire. If Isabella asks you as a host for a volunteering, there is no doubt, just say yes :) Thank you for your stay and all the best for you Isabella

We could n’t spend as much time as we would have liked to with Stephen but we appreciated very much his personality. His So huge experience of volunteering and travelling makes his company an enriching . Discreet, trustworthy, seeking to be helpful, He seriously involves himself on what he is doing. We Will be happy to have him at home once more : there are some more hikes and places to discover … and we will certainly have few tasks left ..😊. So Long Stephen

I totally recommend spending time at this foundation! I had such an amazing 10 days there. Nandini, Jyoti, and Jeshwant are awesome and very welcoming. They really care about making a difference in the kids’ lives, so I found the project truly inspiring. I enjoyed helping out in the computer classes at the school, the afternoon classes at the foundation, and even putting together donation boxes. The room was comfortable, and the food was really good. We also had the chance to explore Dehradun. Spending time with them was a lot of fun, they made me feel like part of the team and always helped me with any logistical matters I needed. I’m really grateful for all their help and kindness, and I would love to come back someday. Hasta la próxima! 🥰

We stayed with Graham and Noelle for five weeks at their beautiful estate near Kerikeri and had a wonderful experience. We had a private, self-contained flat connected to the main house with everything we needed to be comfortable included. Graham and Noelle are wonderful hosts and always made sure we were comfortable during our stay. We worked outdoors with Graham doing a variety of tasks to help maintain the property. Graham took every opportunity to teach us skills we didn't already have and make sure we were always safe during our work. Graham and Noelle were happy to be flexible with our work schedule in order to help us make the most of seeing the surrounding area. We took a trip to Cape Reigna and were able to rearrange our schedule around it - Graham provided lots of good tips / information for us on our trip as well. We felt right at home during our five weeks and couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the end of winter. We could not have asked for better hosts and recommend Graham and Noelle's place to anyone looking to explore Northland.

Paul & Nicolas not only made a great first impression with us, but throughout their stay with us they went above and beyond to help out in our surf house! They are super hard working guys, show real initiative and overall made a huge contribution to our project. We cannot reccommend them enough! They are super active guys, friendly, always willing to help out and we couldnt be more grateful to have had them stay with us! In this particular project, we needed help with our garden, DIY and painting and they completed all tasks to a really high level! Thanks so much guys! We hope you come back and spend more time with us in the future!

I had so much fun volunteering for three weeks! The teachers are all so amazing and make you feel so welcome. The students are engaged and love learning and being at school. The teachers took me around town and to some beautiful nature spots at the weekend. The accommodation was clean and private. The school is just gorgeous and I was able to participate in community events at the weekend. It was a really rewarding experience and I can't wait to come back and visit some day soon! Thank you!!!

Although Junko has very limited English she is a very willing worker. She is most appreciative of anything done for her. She throws herself into any work opportunities. We largely potted a large number of seedlings, set up two raised gardens watered all the potted seedlings daily and planted much of our garden.

This was my first Workaway experience and I couldn't ask for a better host! Margaret and Marshall are quite the duo. Margaret is very welcoming and gives you all the tips for success in your stay. I helped with light household chores and keeping my friend Marshall entertained . Other than that Margaret and I kept each other company with stories and news. The house is quite beautiful and located in a very cute quaint town. I would highly recommend this stay for anyone.
