    Hello Workawayers!
I'm Akino, a 34-year-old mother of three (Wataro 7-year-old boy, Momo 4-year-old boy, and Nene 2-year-old girl). My husband, Yasu is a civil servant working at Isahaya City Hall. In December 2023, I started a cultural exchange community in Isahaya City, Nagasaki, to create a space where people from different backgrounds can connect and share experiences.

I have a deep love for traveling and cultural exchange. I’ve visited over a dozen countries and previously volunteered in Australia, New Zealand and Ghana. Now, as a mother, I can’t travel as much, so I decided to bring the world to my children and our local community by hosting Workawayers.

    What We Offer:
Here, cultural exchange is at the heart of everything we do. Workawayers become part of a warm and welcoming environment where they can share their culture, connect with locals, and experience authentic Japanese hospitality. We often gather for meals, visit local attractions, and enjoy activities together—creating a family-like bond beyond just volunteering.

    Our Activities

We run several cultural exchange programs where Workawayers can actively participate:

    ■ Kids Cultural Exchange Program (Twice a Week - Wednesday & Thursday, 15:00-19:00)
Starting in April 2025, this program is designed for children aged 6-10. Unlike traditional English classes, this program does not follow a textbook. Instead, children engage in real-life communication through play, cultural sharing, and cooking. The goal is to enhance their English skills naturally while developing an international mindset.
・Children practice to introduce Japanese culture by sharing traditional games, food, and customs. We also welcome Workawayers to bring their own creative ideas and actively contribute to shaping each session!
・As the children are still learning English, patience and enthusiasm are essential. We’re looking for Workawayers who genuinely enjoy spending time with kids!
・During school holidays (spring, summer, and winter breaks), we may have a special schedule with different activities and events.

■Parent & Child Cultural Exchange Program (Every Friday, 10:00-14:00)
Also starting in April 2025, this program is for families with children aged 0-5. Parents and children participate together in activities such as crafts, outdoor play, picnics, and traditional Japanese sweet-making etc. The program is designed not only for young children but also to offer parents an opportunity for international exchange, casual English conversation, and a refreshing break from daily childcare. Activities are planned collaboratively with participating families.

    ■ Community Exchange Events (A Few Times a Month on Sundays & Holidays)
We regularly host cultural exchange events where Workawayers can share their ideas and experiences. If you have a special skill, hobby, or cultural tradition you’d like to introduce, we’d love to incorporate it into our gatherings!

    ■Potluck Parties (Occasionally)
A fun and delicious way to share traditional foods from different countries with the local community.

    ■ Outdoor Adventures & Camping (Occasionally)
Overnight camping trips and day hikes where we cook over campfires and enjoy nature together.

    ■Local Day Trips & Outings
We love to invite workawayers to our day trips and outing when we have free times. If there’s something you’d like to experience, we’ll do our best to make it happen!

One of the most surprising and heartwarming aspects of being part of this community is the generosity and hospitality you will experience from the local people. The more you contribute—whether through sharing your culture, teaching a new skill, or simply participating in our activities—the more you’ll see the local community’s deep appreciation for you.
Local people are eager to share their lives with you, and you’ll often find yourself being offered traditional foods or snacks, and even small gifts from the heart. You’ll be amazed at how the "omotenashi" (hospitality) spirit of Japan will touch you.
Our community house is already filled with this warmth, where exchanges happen not just through organized activities, but in everyday interactions. The genuine kindness and generosity of our neighbors will make you feel like part of the family, and you’ll quickly realize that here, the cultural exchange goes both ways—just as much as you give, you’ll receive in abundance.

  • Acomodação

    Acomodação

You will stay in a dedicated Workawayer house in Isahaya City, Nagasaki, where cultural exchange events with locals are held. Our family lives 1.6 km away in a separate house in the same city. The nearest train station, JR Nishi-Isahaya, is a 14-minute walk (950m) from the house. A 7-Eleven is 10 minutes away (750m), and a supermarket is 23 minutes away on foot (1.7 km). For fresh bread, a popular bakery, "Kamando," is a 9-minute walk (650m) from the house. We also have a shared bicycle available for you to use.
When you arrive in Isahaya, we can pick you up from JR Nishi-Isahaya Station, Isahaya Station, or the Isahaya Interchange bus stop. If you’re flying into Nagasaki Airport, take a bus to Isahaya Station.

    Your Area:
You’ll most likely share the room and the house with other Workawayers of the same gender, or we may accommodate a couple or family. The house has one bedroom, one living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a shower room. It is very important to communicate well with your roommates and live together in a cooperative manner.

    Food:
We always provide basic ingredients such as rice and seasonings. We will also cover the cost of food/ingredients for cultural exchange programs and other events where we cook and eat together with volunteers and locals. We always discuss and decide on the food menu for our programs and events with our volunteers. We welcome any ideas you may have for dishes from your country or Japanese food you would like to try.
You are also free to use the crops from the gardens. There may be times when there are not many crops. Your gardening efforts for future volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, please pay for food expenses and eating out on your own.

We’re open to all types of cuisine. If you have dietary restrictions (vegan, vegetarian, etc.), please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
