Clara and Tom certainly had a Patagonian adventure! For much of their time with us, the weather was appalling – heavy rain, snow, and flooding that blocked access within the property, as well as to the outside world. But they were flexible, and adapted quickly to the inevitable changes in plans. Although we could not do the projects that we had planned, they were able to finish some other projects that had been deferred but needed finishing. They are a great couple – good company and enthusiastic workers. We would welcome them back here

Working at the school was an incredible experience I will never forget. Holy, the headteacher, and all the school staff were so welcoming from the very start. I’ve always loved art, and Holy encouraged me to integrate this passion into my time at the school. He invited me to create a mural at the front of the school, as well as a collaborative mural with the pupils and teachers. I had never taken on such a large art project before, so the whole process was an exciting challenge. I also ran an informal after-school art club for the pupils, which became one of my favourite parts of the week. In the mornings, I helped in Teacher Chen’s class. We worked together to plan lessons and come up with new, fun ways to help the pupils improve their English. The teachers at the school work incredibly hard for their pupils. I learnt a lot from Teacher Chen — not only about how to teach a language, but also about how to guide young children in learning important morals and lessons for everyday life. During the middle of the day and after school, we had time to prepare lessons and review textbooks as needed, which was really helpful for planning engaging activities. I hadn’t taught English before, so it was challenging at times — but by the end, it felt so rewarding to see the pupils’ progress and to understand how best to support their learning. I also really enjoyed spending time with the other volunteers. We often went for coffee on the main street, just a short walk from the school, and shared lots of laughs together. Holy’s mum’s cooking was always incredible — I never went hungry! She even gave me bananas and snacks at break times to keep me going. There are also supermarkets nearby if you want extra snacks or supplies. Many of the pupils live close to the school, so there were always familiar faces when walking around the area. The whole community was so welcoming, and I quickly felt at home. I also loved exploring Phnom Penh city on my days off. My last day at the school was a very emotional one, I really didn’t want to leave. It’s hard to put into words just how special this experience was for me. It’s something I will always remember. Thank you — I hope to be back one day! ❤️

We worked at the hostel for over a month and it was amazing. The work is easygoing — mostly reception and helping out wherever needed. The place is beautiful and super well located. The people the hostel attracts are wonderful. We made so many friends that we’re really going to miss! We’ve had live music nights, movie nights, games, and a bit of everything. We’re really grateful to Milto and Saba for the trust, and we hope to see them again soon ✨

Tilde and Silje are two wonderful helpers, always cheerful and positive. They happily take care of whatever needs doing, and you simply feel comfortable in their company. They are good at entertaining themselves and are also great conversationalists. All the best on your journey through life! Always welcome at the park and future EcoVillage, which will also feature treehouses and offer more adventure trips!

What an absolutely lovely person to invite into your home! Yongpeng is a peaceful, quietly intelligent person who cracks on with tasks steadily and likes to see everything to completion. The biggest task was cleaning a drainage ditch around my star garden and lining it with stones. Yongpeng made great teamwork with my other volunteers to finish that nicely. He also was involved in land and river clearing, sanding, painting and took control of a banana bread baking day and helping me deliver 11 loaves to hungry neighbours. He is a bit of a perfectionist and really focuses on quality everything he does, which I think was fantastic. Yongpeng also loves travelling, and trying everything. We all went as a gang to a Halloween party, there was traditional Portuguese music and dancing, and he joined in, and got on very well with all of my friends. He tried aerial acrobatic classes twice and actually mastered quite a difficult trapeze trick on his second try. I would recommend this strong, gentle, well thought out man to any host, he is an absolute star!!

I stayed at Dan’s beautiful olive farm for only one week but what an incredible week! Dan is a great and relaxing host, and he is a master at all crafts, I learnt a lot from him. He is a yoga master, a great chef, artisan, and knows like no other about sustainability and living in harmony with Nature, respecting and taking advantage of its natural cycles. We worked hard on his land and I helped him in his various ongoing projects, like building a septic tank. Before and after work I always had a great time. Everyday early in the morning I joined Dan in his yoga practice. He took me to a barbecue party with his friends and we went together to the local market. One night his kind daughter payed a visit and we had a nice dinner all together. Just chilling in the farm with the most stunning view and with the company of his little dog, Gaia, was amazing. If you are looking for a great, simple but meaningful off-grid lifestyle experience, where the work is rewarded by the incredible surroundings and Dan’s hospitality, knowledge and state of mind, this the place. All the best and I miss his awesome olive oil!

Thank you so much Olive for your help. Olive came to our house to help for two weeks. Olive was a great helper and she is very independent, organized and took great care of our house, dog and cat while we were away. Olive did an amazing job in looking after our dog ( who always is missing us a lot when we are away ) . We recommend Olive to anyone who is looking for a responsible, caring, friendly and tidy person.

I spent a little over a week with John and Dale. I had my own room and shared a toilet and bathroom. It was my first Workaway experience, and the perfect first place. John and Dale immediately make you feel at home. They even ask what you like to eat and what kind of work you prefer. In my free time, I went cycling, saw glowworms in their garden, and went for walks in their woods, as well as outside their property. It's a beautiful neighborhood. John also taught me how to shoot. Dale also took me to Orewa and Warkworth. They make sure you're never bored :) I didn't have a car, and they picked me up at the bus stop. Thank you, John and Dale, for the fun and educational first Workaway experience. I had a lot of laughs with you. It would be great to see you again 😀

Jelle and Luna were motivated, reliable, and quick to learn new skills such as repairs, woodworking, and tiling. They were always willing to help wherever needed and worked well both independently and as part of the team. They brought a positive attitude and good energy to the house, making the atmosphere warm and enjoyable. It was a real pleasure having them here.

I had a great time with Daniel. I've been there for a bit more than one week and was super good everything. The little guest house has everything you need, even private bathroom with shower. The place is quiet and close to the old town (10 minutes around by motorbike). Daniel and Ora are good souls. With him I spent most of the time and he brought me to hidden places and explained me things I could never find out as a normal "tourist". Even if he is a native English speaker he speaks quite slowly and easy to understand when English is not your first language. I feel to recommend it 100%

I got to stay with Carol and Trevor for about two months, from the beginning of September until the beginning of November. The moment I got there, I felt very welcomed and comfortable in their home which quickly became my home too. They are both very funny and we laughed a lot together. I am very lucky and grateful I got to stay with them. Throughout my stay I did all different types of tasks outside on the property. I cut the blackberry bushes, did weed eating, blew the driveway, mowed the lawn and things like that. My favorite job to do was stacking the firewood, it was almost a bit meditative. From time to time I also helped feeding the pets, who always acted like they were starving, which they weren’t at all. In those two months I was also able to improve my English and I am glad I got to expand my vocabulary. I also went on lots of walks with Carol and the awesome dogs Guiness and Gidget. The nature is beautiful and calming and the forests look very mystical. One day, Trevor took me for a ride in his logging truck which I really enjoyed. We watched the sunrise in the morning and seeing the beautiful landscape of Vancouver Island from another point of view was really nice. Carol and Trevor also showed me around the area and we often went to the market on Saturdays. When we took Guiness, people were always commenting on how the dog is as big as a horse, which was pretty funny. Moreover, I spent a lot of time with the cats, the sweetest ones I have ever seen. They were always around and super affectionate. Besides that, I got to eat all different kinds of delicious food. Everyday around lunchtime I was already excited for dinner. Carol is an amazing cook and always put in so much effort. I also had lots desert and cookies, which Carol brought home from work. I also really enjoyed having ice cream with Trevor while watching movies together. Generally, I was very well fed throughout my stay :D Additionally, I got to experience my first ever Thanksgiving and it was very interesting to see this part of the Canadian culture. It was a really nice and fun evening and I will surely remember that for a long time. Overall, I had a lovely time with Carol and Trevor. I really enjoyed the family atmosphere and just spending time with them and I had a lot of fun. I always felt cared for and if there was anything I needed, I knew they were always there to help. I will surely miss y’all!

My time at the English Club couldn’t be better, it felt like a true cultural exchange, which in the end is the main purpose of this platform. Lily is an amazing and easy-going host and will make sure you have a good time, giving you great tips about what to do and see in Hinase and its whereabouts. The work is easy to do, even more if you are a responsible, proactive and organized person. Lily will give you the general weekly work plan and guide you daily if you have any doubt, making sure you don’t work more time than the stipulated. The English talk sessions and Friendly Fridays with the locals were amazing, I met such nice and interesting people, with some of whom I did great activities outside the English Club, like hiking in a nearby mountain, go on a fishing boat trip or visit amazing local food markets with all the great delicacies you can imagine. Hinase is a beautiful small and rural town by the sea and it’s impossible to be bored. I stayed for one month and managed to explore a lot the area, including 4 of the nearby stunning small islands. All the best for Lily and the English Club, I will never forget the good times I had over there!

Rachel and David are exceptional hosts. From the beginning, they have been welcoming and confident. I felt at home, so I was even more keen to help them with their daily tasks. The house is a comfortable treasure, the living environment is quiet and beautiful, the dogs are love, Rachel's cooking is excellent, and the discussions with David are very interesting. I loved sharing their daily lives and meeting their friends. I left because I had to continue my travel, but I would have stayed with pleasure. Thanks for everything!

Stefano was truly a wonderful volunteer who I can recommend any hosts! He is hard-working, responsible, and thoughtful. He took his role seriously, planning and preparing great activities for the kids while also taking care of the daily housekeeping with care and dedication. What we appreciated most was how deeply he valued the sense of connection here with the children, the families, and the other Workawayers. He participated in every program with great enthusiasm, including our kids’ overnight camping event, onsen trips, tea ceremony experience, and family outings. We had so many wonderful memories together. His gentle nature, curiosity, and sincere way of connecting with people made him a wonderful presence in our community. We are so grateful for his time here and will always welcome him back anytime.

I've only just come away from Marc & Kerianne's a few days ago and I already miss it. It stands out as one of the most inclusive Workaway experiences I've had in that they invite you into their home & world in such a special and genuine way, by the time I left after just 2 weeks it felt like parting ways with familiar friends who I hope to cross paths with again. From the beginning they were flexible and understanding with my changing arrival date and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked through the door. Tasks were always varied - I loved being in the garden with Kerianne, the nursery with Marc, and just general outdoor tasks throughout their incredible native wonderland. There was a great balance of work & play. Just like most family homes, there's a specific way they like certain things done and instructions were always clear and straightforward. Meals were shared and often afternoon/evening activities were enjoyed together too (watching music at Sublime, playing pool, garden pétanque, making pizza etc). That being said, there was still ample down time to lay in the hammock and read, or journey out to explore somewhere new (heaps of beautiful spots to explore all around). I learned so much from my time with them both, and they were always happy to answer my millions of questions. Thank you both for sharing your home & wisdom. Shout out to Jy for cooking some fantastic meals too. Big hugs to all the sheep and ponies. Much love, Shannon :)
