I spent two weeks in Sukawati and that was enough for me to miss the kids already! School: you will be mainly communicating with Juli prior to your arrival. After that, you’ll be in class with her or Desak. You’ll have a schedule on your first day so your times will be clear. I worked for approximately 3.5 hours a day but there are a lot of breaks in between (so certain days you start at 8am and finish at 3pm, for example) but it wasn’t a problem for me. The kids are AMAZING, they are very energetic and engage in every activity. You will be pretty much leading the class and playing games with them but most times you don't know what is the topic until you get to class so I improvised a lot. Oh! and the food at the canteen is yummy!!!! House: You live in a balinese house with a big family so, even though you have your own room, it doesn’t feel super private. On the other side, though, I never shared time or a meal with them so it is pretty much like you are renting a room. I am not sure why, they won’t let you use their washing machine but you can still find laundry mats nearby. The house is 7min walk from the school but I highly suggest to rent a scooter since there are a lot of breaks between classes and this way you can ride around or go home and rest Room: Room is simple with A/C. I had termites so I would have termite poop on the bed and in a corner of the room very often. My biggest problem was sleping. On one side there are many roosters around that make a lot of noise in the mornings (and sometimes all day long) and at night there was a little puppy crying constantly. He was brought a day after me so once he gets used to being in a cage at night he might stop crying. All in all it was a very good experience but the difficulty sleeping made it a bit hard for me

Hannah and Gabe came to stay with my husband and myself during October 2025. Both were extremely helpful and hard working during the time they were here. Gabe was very useful for Peter on occasions and was happy to go off and do stuff for Peter away from the rest of the crew that were staying here at the same time. Hannah was extremely good at thinking out of the box at times which made it easier at times as I didn't have to keep telling her what to do next. She always got on with the job in hand. Hannah was very good with the animals and had a couple of horse rides on my horse called Mirlita. Hannah also took the dogs for walks on occasions. I was very glad to see that on the days off both Hannah and Gabe made use of their time and went visiting Alicante and Benidorm.Very nice couple and would love to see them again sometime.

We loved hosting Aileen and James at our farmhouse as they are both great helpers and volunteers -- great attitude, positive energy, very thoughtful and caring, responsible and trustworthy. Aileen took over from our full time housekeeper and did a great job cleaning the guest rooms and keeping the place clean and organized all without any supervision. James took great care of our vegetable garden and helped out with different projects. We would highly recommend both of them!

Staying with Guido, Livia, and their two daughters was such a lovely experience. They were incredibly welcoming and always made sure I felt comfortable and had everything I needed. A truly open and warm family 🤗 Guido and Livia are both very intelligent and thoughtful people, and it was really interesting to be part of their family and daily life. Their daughters, Giada and Sveva, are two sweet girls with wonderful, unique personalities. During my two weeks here, I had plenty of opportunities to explore Sicily and learn more about the Italian way of life. I’m really grateful for everything I experienced and for the kindness they showed me. It was a pleasure getting to know this family, and I can really recommend staying with them! 🌞

Hugo joined the team fairly late in the season and was an asset from the moment he arrived. He is very hardworking and has an eye for details. He is very outgoing and got on very well with the other team members, despite joining us later in the year. We would love to have Hugo back anytime and can highly recommend him to other Workaway hosts.

Such a privilege to be a part of this beautiful community project. Giorgio is creating a haven for campers, in a beautiful part of the world. Thank you for your clear communication, positivity, spontaneity and love for the land. I'll be back soon. Work is as described on the profile, each day helping to turn this plot of land in to a shared space for vans, tents, digital nomads, yogis and surfers. Right now, perhaps souls with experience in gardening and building and carpentry would be useful. Facilities are evolving everyday. If you're coming without a vehicle, be prepared to rely on others for lifts, or walk without a pavement / cycle on narrow two-way roads. There are many local places to visit in the nature reserve, and if you like coastal hikes it's perfect. Getting in to town could be tricky, so you will likely need to be flexible and take each day as it comes. Thank you Giorgio, being there was medicine for my soul

I spent nearly a month in Himara/Porto Palermo helping at the restaurant. The place is absolutely beautiful and has a lot of potential! When I arrived, the season was almost over, so the tasks weren’t too complicated or overwhelming. I mostly assisted Aldo and Marta (the local waitress and a fellow Workawayer) with table service, worked as a waitress when needed, and helped with simple cleaning chores. I’d recommend this host for at least a one-month stay — it’s a good amount of time to get used to how things work and to really catch the cultural vibe. When Irid was around, he was always willing to take us out on the boat, show us different places, or organize dinners afterwards. If you’re an avid traveler, you’ll definitely enjoy it!💫💫 Thanks to the whole Porto Palermo 🇦🇱team — I’m really thankful for the experience 🍻

What a wonderful two weeks I spent here! André and Niko as well as the whole team were so welcoming from the very first moment. The project here is amazing and working on it makes you really feel like a part of it. Everyone works and eats together so you get very close to the team very fast. The sense of comunity is very strong and meaningful!! In addition, I was able to learn some new skills in my free time; the beautiful worshops they have on the property allow you to learn about woodworking, pottery, welding, fabrics, and much more! I would love to come back when I ge the chance to.

Hey Zaki and Yati, thank you guys a lot for such a nice time at your place. It was really cool to meet some new people, try new fruits, play games in the evenings, have some time to relax, eat your amazing food and play with the kids. I wish you some good progress with the treehouse and hope to see you again some day.

Jérôme is a very calm and pleasant fellow. If you explain to him what needs to be done, he carries it out conscientiously. He is very intelligent and empathetic. We can therefore highly recommend him as a helper! All the best! Always welcome at our EcoVillage & Adventure Park and on our adventure tours.

It’s safe to say that few people have grown into our hearts as quickly as Catalina. She arrived during a very busy time, with lots of people around and plenty of building going on, but she fit right in from the start. From the lovely message she sent us before arriving to the sad day she left, Catalina was an absolute pleasure to have with us. At first she was careful and observant, but soon grew more confident — always thoughtful, full of ideas, and endlessly appreciative. She looked after the chickens and goats with great care and was lucky enough to witness the birth of some kids on her very last day at the farm. She harvested so much grass for the laying boxes and stables that it will easily last until next season! ;-) Catalina also brought some wonderful jigsaw puzzles that kept us busy for several evenings, and she loved crafting with the kids — who quickly became very fond of her. We learned a lot about her life, upbringing, and family history, all of which were fascinating. She was a great help around the house and delighted us with her knowledge of Italian and Moldavian cuisine (mhmmm, Plăcintă :-)). We had many interesting conversations and shared lots of fun moments. It was especially lovely to see her become addicted to Rummikub, which she often played with Opa — getting better and better over time and even sneaking in a few victories! ;-) We’ll always remember Catalina’s big heart and warm smile. May the power of the fancy Portuguese jacket keep her cozy on cool days, and may she continue to share her joy for life wherever she goes. Thank you so much, Catalina, for all your help, your good energy, and for spending those wonderful weeks with us! Até à próxima! :-)

spent a few weeks at machiel's wonderful land in the valley, we learned many things about syntropic agroforestry and ecology, had real tasty dishes to eat every day and got to take part in the daily chores that come with late summer life in nature. we could always choose our task ourselves and machiel was always accommodating with our preferences which was a fantastic work environment. helped dig ponds, take down the firehazard broom bushes, cut pines, wrestled with bramble and all sorts of other little tasks. even got to housesit for a week and got some music done which we are super grateful for. we especially appreciated machiel's open-mindedness and curiosity in views different to his own, which is very rare these days. thanks for your open arms man, hope to see you again in the near future! and all the best of luck in your reforestation efforts!

We are sorry to have to leave a negative comment, but we think other Workawayers should know. We travelled 500 km, stayed for 1 working day and sadly had to leave the following day due to an emergency. It was not the experience we expected because it wasn't really what we were told it would be. Firstly, she contacted us because my partner has experience with horses, but ultimately, we didn't really interact with the animals; we mostly harvested olives. That wasn't too bad, but the problem was that my partner worked for 9 hours. We thought that was too long. We thought that, since we had worked so many hours, she would offer us the next day off, but she told us we would be doing the same work. That left us a bit shocked. Also, she asked us to lend her our personal car, which we explained was my father's car and we couldn't lend, and when we said no, she insisted a little bit and made comments that made us feel uncomfortable. This is the first time that an unknown person has requested this type of service from us. So, we felt there were some red flags and we had the feeling that she had not been entirely honest with us in some aspects. Also, she should have clarified the working hours and type of work beforehand. That would be our kind advice to her. Other than that, the place is very nice and she is quite friendly too.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better place for my first Workaway experience. Selja and the team have such a special way of making everyone feel right at home. I loved learning, sharing, and just spending time with you all — you’re truly inspiring people. Wishing you all the best on whatever comes next!

Hosting you was truly a wonderful experience! From the first moment, your kind and positive energy filled our home with warmth. You’re such a thoughtful, cheerful, and respectful person — it felt like having a friend with us rather than a guest. We’re so happy you enjoyed your time in Bursa and the trip to Uludağ! You’ll always have a home here with us, and we hope our paths cross again one day. Wishing you lots of new adventures and beautiful memories ahead 🌿💛

Arisa is a wonderful person to host. She always gives her very best and stays on the task, even if it gets cold. She was a big support. I appreciated also her naturally helping me with the kitchen without me asking her to do so. She is respectful, very kind and 100% reliable. She also is wonderful company and we had interesting talks during leisure time together.

We spent 7 weeks at Carina and Jan’s place. We gained so much new experience and learned many new skills, had a lot of fun as well as time to relax, met a lot of amazing family members and friends. The communication was great, we always got a quick response and knew we could count on them. Jan and Carina also took us to explore different places and towns around the area, we helped at slaughters and saw little chickens hatch! Thank you so much for everything! Barbora&Alex

This was my first ever volunteer experience, and it was all made possible by Hani’s transparent and clear communication. I especially want to thank the school and the director for their support and kindness. This experience has been unforgettable, and I’ve loved being a part of these kids’ lives, even for a little while.
