Over the course of two visits, I had the privilege of staying with Nipon and his family for a total of seven weeks, immersing myself in the intricacies of Thai agriculture. As a horticulturist, my goal was to deepen my understanding of the local farming conditions and techniques, and my time on the farm proved to be an invaluable learning experience. Witnessing the seamless transition from field to kitchen was particularly enlightening—observing how the restaurant staff harvested fresh produce and transformed it into exquisite dishes highlighted the true farm-to-table ethos. The setting itself was breathtaking. Nestled beside the mountains in a small farming village, the farm provided an idyllic backdrop for exploration. During my free time, I hiked to the nearby waterfall and swimming hole, rode the family’s moped through the mountainous terrain, and trained at a local Muay Thai gym. Engaging with the community in this way gave me a deeper appreciation for Thai culture and the rhythms of daily life. Beyond agriculture, I also seized the opportunity to refine my Thai language skills by conversing with restaurant guests and staff. Additionally, I honed my culinary abilities by learning to prepare Thai dishes using the farm’s organic produce—an experience that enriched both my palate and my understanding of traditional cooking methods. Evenings were primarily spent assisting in the restaurant, an experience that fostered a profound connection to the local way of life. Staying with Nipon’s family provided an authentic glimpse into Thai culture, allowing me to feel truly embedded within the community. I am deeply grateful to Nipon and his family for their hospitality and the wealth of knowledge they shared. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!

I really enjoyed my time here. I think the profile is very accurate in terms of the experience you can expect and also how kind and fun the host is. The other reviews were spot on. In my 2 weeks there I mostly painted the kitchen and the floor of Kevin's patio, but also took care of the place while he was gone for a few days. I also fixed up the three bikes as best as I could. I really appreciate that he included us in some of his daily activities like the group hike that he organizes on Saturdays, but generally you will need to be self motivated in your work. Oh - and while he was in the US for a few days, he even offered to bring me back a small package from my friends and family! Super nice and unexpected. Overall I think it's a great project with a great host, and if I'm ever in St. Martin again I will definitely be returning.

I stayed at Greg and Danna's for a period of 12 days in April 2025 - the first Work Away experience for both of us! I've had an absolute amazing time at their beautiful, peaceful place and would recommend this Workaway to anyone :) Greg and Danna have given me the warmest welcome, communication (both prior and during the Work Away) has been super easy, and they have been really thinking along on making most out of the experience for me. Simon (who works full-time on the farm), Greg, and Dana have given me the chance to learn a lot about permaculture and agroforestry. The tasks I helped out with were super diverse, making no day the same. It has been great to spend time with the warm community that Greg and Danna are part of, play with the kids, and go for long (coastal/forest) walks with the dogs. Also, I could take fruit, vegetables, nuts and herbs from the gardens for my meals, which has been an absolute treat! For me, it was the perfect balance between learning and helping at the farm on the one hand, and having time for myself to do some remote work (there is good WiFi) and exploring the stunning (!!) surroundings on the other hand.

We had the privilege of hosting Oscar as a volunteer, and his time with us was nothing short of impactful. Although initially scheduled to arrive later, Oscar graciously adjusted his plans upon our request to support our teenage mothers and girls with their education. His commitment and willingness to help were evident from the very beginning. Oscar took on the role of teaching mathematics and English to the girls, offering both knowledge and encouragement. His skills and maturity enabled him to handle many of the challenges that come with working with teenage mothers, showing understanding and empathy in every interaction. His ability to connect with the girls and guide them patiently made a significant difference in their learning experience. Beyond the classroom, Oscar was incredibly supportive in various aspects of daily life. He often helped carry the babies until they fell asleep, gently laying them down so that the young mothers could focus on their studies without distraction. His kindness extended to household chores—each morning, Oscar would help clean the house and the compound, demonstrating a true spirit of teamwork and community. We all love Oscar😁 He also contributed to cooking and cleaning utensils, making the whole experience feel joyful and shared. His friendly nature shone brightly as he joined in games, nature walks, and all the fun activities we organized. Despite being the only man among many ladies, Oscar quickly blended in, becoming part of the family with his easy-going nature and genuine kindness. Not only did Oscar dedicate his time and energy, but he also donated generously to support the girls and help keep the project running smoothly. His contributions were deeply appreciated, and his presence brought so much joy and harmony to our community. Oscar truly became part of us, and his departure left a noticeable gap. We are incredibly grateful for everything he did, and we genuinely look forward to welcoming him back someday. His kindness, maturity, and willingness to serve selflessly have left a lasting impact on all of us.

We were unable to be present in Mayreau during Kevin and Josie's stay, and so we arranged for a full and comprehensive handover to be conducted by an outgoing volunteer. It was only after Kevin and Josie left the island that we learned of the problems that they faced. There were indeed serious issues, including the unacceptable state of their accommodation, and a handover which was clearly wholly inadequate. We are extremely sorry about this, and of course have apologised directly to them. That said, we were surprised and disappointed not to have been informed of their concerns during their stay. Throughout their short time with us, we made repeated efforts to check in with them to ensure that they were comfortable in their accommodation and that all was going well, but we received no response. Had we known, we would have acted immediately to resolve the issues. It is deeply regrettable that we were not given that opportunity. With regard to the troubling safety issues they raised, safety for all concerned is of course our highest priority. We have strict safety protocols in place, including structured dog walks, the use of muzzles when appropriate, clear handling guidelines for the animals in our care, and behavioural advice regarding the wider dog population. Our safety procedures, both with regard to the animals and generally, are outlined in our Information pack and standard agreement with our volunteers. As safety protocols must often adapt to constantly changing conditions - eg. updated requirements for the use of a muzzle for a specific dog - all updates are customarily communicated directly to incoming volunteers during the handover process. We are extremely sorry that this did not happen in this case. Moving forward , in any future instance where we as hosts are unable to give the handover ourselves, additional precautions will be taken to verify that the handover has been conducted fully and correctly. With regard to some points mentioned in the feedback which were inaccurate : - there was a functioning two burner gas stove in their volunteer house; a shared fridge was available in the second volunteer house, one minute's walk away; the bucket shower arrangement was explained prior to their visit, hence they took out their own portable shower attachment . As a matter of course, we inform incoming volunteers that Mayreau was badly impacted by Hurricane Beryl in July 2024. Much of the island's infrastructure was destroyed, and our volunteer houses were damaged, and many of the house contents destroyed. The houses have been repaired, but we always stress in advance to our volunteers that living conditions are still simple and quite basic. Kevin and Josie also raised concerns about local people "taking advantage" of our support. We understand this viewpoint completely, but the context is that we work closely with veterinary professionals and educators and the police to promote responsible animal ownership and to advocate for legal enforcement of welfare standards. Cultural change around animal welfare takes time, and whilst we are commited to education, hands-on care is often the only thing standing between an animal and continued suffering. In conclusion, we are very sorry and shocked that Kevin and Josie's experience was so far from ideal. We just wish that they had communicated this information directly to us during their stay so that we could have addressed and resolved these issues.

Chris is truly exceptional volunteer and he quickly became an integral part of our team — and our hearts. He has brought so much positive energy, dedication, and kindness to our space, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he contributed during the stay with us. From day one, he jumped into all aspects of running our guest house — helping with cooking, cleaning, gardening, mowing the grass, and joining in on some of our ongoing DIY projects. Whatever the task, he approached it with care and responsibility. Everything was done properly, on time, and always with a positive attitude. But beyond hard work, it was the time we spent together after work that made his presence special. Whether it was playing board games, sharing stories around the fire, or taking part in the small gatherings and events we held — Chris brought warmth and joy to our community life. And also Chris surprised us with his massage skills — on their last day, he gave me a deeply relaxing massage that left me feeling completely renewed. So if one day Chris decides to return to Georgia — we’ll be so happy to welcome him back.

Tilen was our 2nd workawayer and stayed with us for about 3 weeks. At that time, our main project was to renew our barn’s intermediate floor and Tilen was an essential help here. He took over tasks like oiling the beams and planing the planks. Apart from that, he helped us with some projects in the garden (preparing a stone wall and some paths) and levelling the ground in another little barn as a preparation for renewing its floor. Tilen was very flexible so that we could plan some common work sessions in our time off work which was very helpful to get things done together – so there were quite a few common wood planing sessions in the evening. Also, Tilen did not shy from less popular tasks (thanks for cleaning the windows!) and he was very open to learning new things. Apart from all the work we could get done together, we very much appreciated the time spent tpgether during meals, for a spontaneous afternoon tea or the one or other shared bottle of wine in the evenings. We liked his kindness, ability to listen, the interesting stories he shared and appreciated inspiring conversations. We not only learned a lot about Slowenia (including a local dish from there Tilen cooked for us) but also about quite a few other places in the world. Altogether, we were very happy to have met you, Tilen and would call you rather a new friend than a former workawayer :-)

Keynoosh is a truly wonderful person and was an absolute joy to have as part of our team. She quickly became a valued member of our small community — working with dedication, always ready to help, and bringing a warm, joyful energy to everything she did. Her laughter filled the house and created a light, happy atmosphere that we will always remember. I’ll personally never forget her laugh — it was infectious in the best way. She helped us a lot with kitchen duties, cleaning, and general housekeeping. Whatever task we asked her to take on, she did it with care, responsibility, and right on time. Her attention to detail and positive attitude made a real difference. We all truly enjoyed having Keynoosh with us, and since Iran is not far from Georgia, we’ve already made plans for her to return one day — something we’re very much looking forward to. Wishing her many more beautiful travels until then!

Oleg and Bjorn were the best host’s we could’ve wished for. They provided us with lots of great food and a lovely house to stay in. They gave us tonnes of advice on things to do in our free time, took us on trips in the car to the local village and further a field to Sweden. This really helped us explore a lot and it gave us a great understanding of how it must feel to live in rural Norway. We cannot recommend this work away enough! We really did have a great two weeks with Oleg and Bjorn and we wish to be able to visit again :) Tusen Takk

I stayed at the School for three weeks... and did not want to leave! It was my first time as a Workawayer and the school was the perfect choice. Marvelous colleagues, marvelous students, incredible area to live in. An excellent opportunity for all the volunteers wanting to experience Morocco. I never once felt uncomfortable, this school and Abdel have my full recommendation. Thank you to everyone involved, I hope I can visit again very soon!

Alix and Sarah are a couple of wonderful young women. They arrived just in time to save my bacon with a plumbing crisis - spending a couple of days moving a garden and digging drains - then they helped me cope with a demanding neighbour and spent another couple of days cutting down trees with a handsaw and moving a huge pile of branches etc. The rest of the time they moved many, many bags of concrete rubble down my steep section and did lots of perfect weeding- plus collecting and bagging up demolition firewood. They really are a couple of all round Super women - who also happen to be very easy to have around - always friendly and helpful - independent and considerate. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Alix and Sarah to any future hosts. They're the best! I'm very grateful for all they did here and wish them well on the rest of their journey around New Zealand.

"This is a clinic, not a refuge" said Carl when we arrived, and yes, it is really important to be aware of it. All dogs and cats are cute and only ask for some love and care, but be ready to see some wounds, blood and animals that are not (yet) at the best of their capacity. Althought it is super rewarding to witness them getting better (when we arrived a litlle dog was not able to move at all because of spinal injury, and after two weeks of care, we saw her standing again !!) , it is also hard to witness the painful injuries they might have. You will be with other workawayers, working on either the "house shift" or the "clinic shift". The work is not complicated but still quite demanding. Tam will be your best friend when working at the clinic. When in the house, you will never be alone as we share the place with 6 wheelie dogs. The house is amaising : full equiped kitchen, AC, purified water, washing-machine, and all very clean, a really rare high standar for a workaway. We felt really usefull during this workaway, the structure is really small, the 4€ asked daily goes directly to the NGO paypal, and the staff is limited to the bare minimum. Giving some of your time will really have an impact of the quantity of care and time that can be dedicated to each dog.

This was my very first workaway experience but it is also my first time travelling abroad alone (and in a different continent from the one I live in). Of course there were many things that were challenging or difficult for me but isn't it part of the journey to learn how to cook local food or live as if I were a real citizen of the country I'm travelling in ☺️ !? I know I'm an introvert person (maybe too much when you meet me for the first time 😅). But I'm aware of that fact and that's why I tend to want to experience things that are out of my comfort zone. I am so grateful to Hyesung, Honggi and Rahee because they made me feel as part of their family during my whole stay, including me in everything they were going to do. They're such a lovely, loving and lively family ✨️!! Of course you have to do some daily chores while they're at work/school. But isn't it part of the workaway contract !? And in exchange, I had the chance to spend so much funny time with them, especially on weekends. But also on evenings because yeah (warning 😂!!) you might leave their house a little tired at the end of your stay. They indeed do so many extra activities during the week like aerobic class, hiking, running, skating... But I can say that I was always excited to see what we were going to do on evenings 🤗. And also, these activities added so much fun and happiness to my stay !! PS: thank you so so much Hyesung for the Coldplay concert, it was really unexpected and helped to make my stay with you so memorable and unforgettable ✨️!!

I spent two weeks at the Centre surrounded by the rolling green hills and birdsong, and I can honestly say it was one of the most peaceful experiences I have had in NZ. The mornings started with meditation in the Gompa, and work took place between 10AM-2PM, 6 days/week. The work was clearly explained and easy to carry out, and was mostly housekeeping, gardening, and organizing. I was responsible for making all my meals but all the (vegetarian) ingredients were provided, and sometimes I shared a meal with Eleni, the current manager, who makes a mean authentic Indian curry. I would recommend volunteering at the Centre if you find your way to the Coromandel Peninsula!

Honestly, I could not imagine having a better host family than Bron. I loved it at her place and learned so many things about Canberra and their lives there. Joining the bush dancing, local walks and the quiz nights made so much fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Like a part of the Canberra life. Also, the work in and outside Brons house I did with passion and motivation and Bron did give me enough time to explore the city and get a nice balance. She is such a lovely and open-minded person and I am absolutely grateful and appreciate my experience with Bron and would do it again and again!

Mohsen is not only the ultimate art enthusiast, but he also turns everything he does into art. He was only with us for about ten days, but it was a great pleasure to host him and enjoy his wonderful company. Mohsen is also an absolute genius with the computer, not just with the paintbrush: in a very short time and with a lot of dedication he created a translation and teaching website for me using cute and tender drawings he made of my cat Rex, who he has become fond of. He also created my line of business cards and pens with the website logo...so cute! He taught me how to use Instagram and took pictures and videos everywhere, around the house, in the horse pen and in Rex's den, to then put everything on Instagram and get me likes. No less important and precious was his help in improving my profile on LinkedIn and cleaning and restoring my old paintings. Mohsen is an extremely sensitive, polite, reliable and tidy guy, with a wide culture and open mind and it was a pleasure to spend some time chatting and exchanging ideas. He also cooked for us some delicious dishes from his country. Rex and we already miss our dear friend, but we hope to see him again soon. Good luck, Mos!

Living in the forest was wonderful. The host was very supportive for us. The house was clean, the work was managed, and we had a lot of free time in the afternoon. Not having a signal is difficult for some people, but I think it's a paradise for those who want to live without a signal.

Viaggiato insieme e festeggiato occasioni familiari importanti.

Andrea has been a wonderful visitor and remarkeble companion for almost 4 weeks. Andrea immerged herself in the local way of life meeting people local and visitors to the area alike. We had a great time socialising in the pub, going to live music, enjoing a game of darts and much more. We have been walking in the beautifu country side and went on road trips together and Andrea was really into it all. I can only say positive things about Andrea, I would welcome her any time again. Thank you Andrea for your visit, it was a very positive experience for me and for the entire community.
