This was my very first workaway experience but it is also my first time travelling abroad alone (and in a different continent from the one I live in). Of course there were many things that were challenging or difficult for me but isn't it part of the journey to learn how to cook local food or live as if I were a real citizen of the country I'm travelling in ☺️ !? I know I'm an introvert person (maybe too much when you meet me for the first time 😅). But I'm aware of that fact and that's why I tend to want to experience things that are out of my comfort zone. I am so grateful to Hyesung, Honggi and Rahee because they made me feel as part of their family during my whole stay, including me in everything they were going to do. They're such a lovely, loving and lively family ✨️!! Of course you have to do some daily chores while they're at work/school. But isn't it part of the workaway contract !? And in exchange, I had the chance to spend so much funny time with them, especially on weekends. But also on evenings because yeah (warning 😂!!) you might leave their house a little tired at the end of your stay. They indeed do so many extra activities during the week like aerobic class, hiking, running, skating... But I can say that I was always excited to see what we were going to do on evenings 🤗. And also, these activities added so much fun and happiness to my stay !! PS: thank you so so much Hyesung for the Coldplay concert, it was really unexpected and helped to make my stay with you so memorable and unforgettable ✨️!!

I spent two weeks at the Centre surrounded by the rolling green hills and birdsong, and I can honestly say it was one of the most peaceful experiences I have had in NZ. The mornings started with meditation in the Gompa, and work took place between 10AM-2PM, 6 days/week. The work was clearly explained and easy to carry out, and was mostly housekeeping, gardening, and organizing. I was responsible for making all my meals but all the (vegetarian) ingredients were provided, and sometimes I shared a meal with Eleni, the current manager, who makes a mean authentic Indian curry. I would recommend volunteering at the Centre if you find your way to the Coromandel Peninsula!

Honestly, I could not imagine having a better host family than Bron. I loved it at her place and learned so many things about Canberra and their lives there. Joining the bush dancing, local walks and the quiz nights made so much fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Like a part of the Canberra life. Also, the work in and outside Brons house I did with passion and motivation and Bron did give me enough time to explore the city and get a nice balance. She is such a lovely and open-minded person and I am absolutely grateful and appreciate my experience with Bron and would do it again and again!

Mohsen is not only the ultimate art enthusiast, but he also turns everything he does into art. He was only with us for about ten days, but it was a great pleasure to host him and enjoy his wonderful company. Mohsen is also an absolute genius with the computer, not just with the paintbrush: in a very short time and with a lot of dedication he created a translation and teaching website for me using cute and tender drawings he made of my cat Rex, who he has become fond of. He also created my line of business cards and pens with the website logo...so cute! He taught me how to use Instagram and took pictures and videos everywhere, around the house, in the horse pen and in Rex's den, to then put everything on Instagram and get me likes. No less important and precious was his help in improving my profile on LinkedIn and cleaning and restoring my old paintings. Mohsen is an extremely sensitive, polite, reliable and tidy guy, with a wide culture and open mind and it was a pleasure to spend some time chatting and exchanging ideas. He also cooked for us some delicious dishes from his country. Rex and we already miss our dear friend, but we hope to see him again soon. Good luck, Mos!

Living in the forest was wonderful. The host was very supportive for us. The house was clean, the work was managed, and we had a lot of free time in the afternoon. Not having a signal is difficult for some people, but I think it's a paradise for those who want to live without a signal.

È stata la nostra prima esperienza come host e ci è piaciuta! Avevamo un po' paura ad accogliere qualcuno che non conoscevo a casa mia, ma Fernando è da un lato molto socievole e dall'altro per niente invadente. È stato molto disponibile e ci ha aiutato con i bambini giocando e insegnando loro l'inglese coinvolgendo molto anche noi. Ho apprezzato molto La sua educazione, la sua voglia di condividere , il suo desiderio di scoprire il nostro stile di vita e di condividere con noi le sue esperienze. Le nostre discussioni sono state sempre molto interessanti! Ed è stato un piacere incontrarlo e parlare con lui. È un viaggiatore multilingue, erudito, esperto in una vasta gamma di argomenti, curioso di tutto e con cui è interessante parlare. È una persona con cui è facile stare: rilassato e socievole, ma anche indipendente e autonomo. E' stato un vero e proprio TEACHER per i nostri figli; dalle lezioni ai giochi, alle passeggiate al parco o in bicicletta, guardare i film in inglese e tanto altro. Ha affrontato ognuno di questi compiti con cura e meticolosità. Abbiamo vissuto insieme per 5 mesi, condiviso tutto come una famiglia. Viaggiato insieme e festeggiato occasioni familiari importanti.

Andrea has been a wonderful visitor and remarkeble companion for almost 4 weeks. Andrea immerged herself in the local way of life meeting people local and visitors to the area alike. We had a great time socialising in the pub, going to live music, enjoing a game of darts and much more. We have been walking in the beautifu country side and went on road trips together and Andrea was really into it all. I can only say positive things about Andrea, I would welcome her any time again. Thank you Andrea for your visit, it was a very positive experience for me and for the entire community.

Myself and my partner Ollie stayed at the school over the Khmer New Year, so unfortunately the school was not open for the week we volunteered. Despite this, we had the most incredible time under Kamnat's company and the other volunteers. We enjoyed the last day of school with the local children, playing games and having an exciting water fight. During the rest of the week, we explored the countryside in Battambang- swimming in a local river, having lunch with Kamnat's welcoming family, and even celebrating the new year with schools in the area. We can not thank Kamnat enough for his humour, his interesting tours of Battambang, and the karaoke evenings (he has the voice of an angel). We really do miss the school and will come back again in the future. Whilst the school was closed, we helped out with admin around the school, including some posters to advertise the volunteering, and organised the paperwork. We would recommend anyone to come volunteer here, past teaching experience is not necessary but defiantly does help. Thank you Kamnat!

Brooke is very polite. well mannered and respectful, He merits a full five stars because he never complained and never stopped working on the boring tasks we asked him to do It was a pleasure to host him. We were sorry to see him go and would welcome him back anytime.

I stayed at Madhura's place for one month and had such a lovely experience! The hours expected are very fair and the meals delicious. It is a great place to dive into the world of yoga and learn from Madhura's many years of experience. The location is very peaceful but still close to town so you get the perfect balance of being able to relax and easily explore Figueira da Foz and the nearby areas. While I was here I got to meet so many other volunteers from all around the world who were all super lovely! I would highly recommend coming here if you get the opportunity! Thank you Madhura for your generosity and so many happy memories, I'm very grateful for my time at the lovely people place ❤️

Hello everyone. With this long message we want to let you know about our six months experience in Palermo with Harold. For us it wasn't just a volunteer project , it was a long and full experience we could develop thanks to Harold in collaboration with the municipality of Palermo. As university students graduating in pedagogy we worked in different schools, both giving classes and organising workshops. We also had the opportunity to take part in a theatre play of a week, and organise an English course for kids in the library. That is just to mention a few opportunities, but all of these are very deep and meaningful. The municipality of the city it's really investing in internationals coming and providing their perspectives and skills to the people of Palermo. People in Palermo are open minded and caring, we felt extremely welcomed and loved by the community. Even though it is a small city, Palermo has everything you might need and has a huge potential for people willing to implement their own ideas and work together with the cultural center lead by Harold. When not working, you would have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, the river and the beautiful green forests all around. Harold is extremely respectful of your private space, and yet welcoming and friendly. We had our own room and toilet and arranging for food has always been easy despite the fact that we are Vegetarians. We know that spending 6 months in one place is not common on work away but we are extremely glad we choose it. We can now say that we have a great friend in Harold, and we can not wait to go back to share more moments with him and the people of Palermo. To conclude, we definitely suggest this experience, especially if you are open-minded, willing to immerse in Colombian culture, and ready for a diverse range and experiences. My partner and I volunteered at Hygee farm for one week, and had the most incredible time ever! We immediately became immersed in the daily farm tasks, including cleaning the cows and Laila the pig, cooking, weeding, watering and teaching. We had great support from the other volunteers, and made some amazing friends too. Huyen (aka Tofu) was an absolute angel and went out of her way to make us feel so welcome. Ha was also very helpful and accommodating, and often checked up on us to make sure we were all happy. The food was also an amazing feature of the farm, with everything freshly made on the day. I could not recommend this farm enough, it has taught us so much, as we got to meet many locals and feel welcomed in the village. Thank you!

Our stay at Sandra’s was amazing. We enjoyed our lovely meals and chats with her. We worked hard in the beautiful garden and had lots of time to explore. She gave us helpful advice about the city. Her home is well located close to the beach ( great view) and public transport. She was very caring and we made a lot of great memories. We would definitely recommend this work away.

Pasamos 3 días con Henriette y su gatito en su hermosa casa. Desde el inicio fue una persona encantadora, alegre y sonriente en cada momento. Pese a que nuestro inglés no es bueno, ella siempre se mantuvo activa a poder ayudarnos a entendernos y poder comunicarnos con eficiencia. Hicimos trabajos en su jardín, lo pasamos muy bien con ello y aprendimos también a valorar la naturaleza y lograr eficiencia con lo sencillo. Creo que nos llevaremos muy buenas ideas para poder realizarlo en nuestro hogar. Recomendamos pasar tiempo con Henriette, ya que tiene mucha experiencia en viajes, historias divertidas y fascinantes por el mundo. Además te hace sentir muy incluido, ya que es naturalmente sencilla, como nosotros ✨️ También nos preparó plato típico de Dinamarca, lo cual apreciamos en demasía 🫂

Marie-Luise stayed at our farm for two weeks and was a wonderful and dedicated helper. During her stay, she worked together with another Workawayer for a few days of overlap. Together, they cleaned the house, mowed the inner courtyard and front garden, pulled weeds, and beautified the outdoor spaces. Marie-Luise also helped mulch our young apple trees with sheep’s wool and wood chips, planted seedlings in the vegetable garden, supported various household tasks, and did a full clean and reorganization of our pantry. We also mowed and raked the garden together. She took loving care of repotting and tending to the plants in the house garden, and did a lot of weeding and beautifying work on her own initiative as well. Her attention to detail and gentle way of working made a real difference. She was very interested in the tasks, consensus-oriented, and consistently friendly. She was also very open to cultural exchange and enjoyed having fun and playing together, which added a warm and joyful note to our time. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time on her own in a calm and self-sufficient way. Her approach to work was steady and devoted—she completed her tasks gradually and thoroughly throughout the day. She kept her room tidy and was respectful of the shared space. Although we occasionally had different ideas or approaches, it was easy to find a good mutual understanding. Communication was sometimes a bit diffuse or hard to grasp at first, but always led to good results in the end. Marie-Luise was uncomplicated and easy to get along with, and it was a pleasure having her here. Thank you for your help and the warm, respectful time we spent together!

Greg, Dora, Lisa, Lora y Luca, son una familia increíblemente encantadora y divertida. Pasamos una semana muy agradecidos con ellos, puesto que te hacen ser parte de sus actividades, comparten, son respetuosos, quieren pasar tiempo de calidad e incluso, Greg nos invitó a un partido de básquetbol profesional en su ciudad natal que estuvo fascinante, nunca antes habíamos ido a un partido profesional de básquetbol y lo pasamos excelente. Realmente, son personas muy amables, empáticas, correctas y preocupadas. En cuanto al trabajo, también nos divertimos mucho, ya que enseñamos español a través de juegos kinésicos y tomando en cuenta el arte, puesto que las niñas disfrutaban de aquello. Realmente, fue una semana donde pudimos aprender de esta familia, de la cultura húngara, descansar y así poder seguir nuestro viaje por Europa. Recomiendo que pasen unos días lindos con ellos ✨️

Sontara accepted my volunteer inquiry at the last minute and she was very welcoming, the first thing she asked me on the phone was: do you have where to sleep tonight? I told her no, and she immediately texted me her address and invited me to her home. the volunteer experience was very chill and even the tasks where common household, and we spend the time chatting and getting on different shores. She is definitely someone I am lucky to have met. We share for five days and she made me feel like I was in a little retreat in the middle of the mountain to recharge energies. thanks for keeping the light Sontara

Zak es un tio genial, se adapto desde el primer dia a nuestro ritmo de trabajo siendo siempre un valor añadido. Tambien hemos podido ir a un festival y compartir con otros voluntarios espacios mas divertidos. Los animales le han querido mucho y el tambien a ellos. Ya sabes que aqui tienes tu casa!

We had such an amazing time with Kui and his Team. The work was very diverse, super fun and not too hard and he accommodated us well too! We felt right at home and had a wonderful experience. We are really happy that we were able to join such a great project and it was a lot of fun, working with the kids all over the country. Kui is a great host and made everything possible for us that we could ask for. It was a great experience that we can truly recommend for everyone. Thank you so much to Kui and his team for giving us an amazing and unforgettable time and experience!

We had a wonderful experience with Nic and her family! All of them are such nice people and welcomed us warmly. We felt right at home and had an amazing time there. The work isn't super hard and we could help in many areas around the shop and with marketing so it was a nice balance! Currently there is a construction in front of their place, which is why it's a little bit crowded but it's not their fault and it didn't bother us much. We are really happy to be able to meet all these amazing people working there and it was truly an unforgettable stay in Luang Prabang, thanks to them! We wish you all the best and will come back when we ever get the chance too!
