Joy and Amaro stayed with us for three weeks in May 2025, and it was such a meaningful experience, that has again helped shape the vision of this project. This was our second time hosting another family here. And surely that also includes many learnings in the “hows”, but it has ensured once again, that the “if” is not a question, but a strong desire to share this place with more families and little souls learning together in the wilds of nature. Joy is incredibly attentive and supportive. She jumps in to help with daily tasks without needing to be asked, and she is also a wonderful cook — preparing healthy and delicious meals that everyone appreciated. She is a gentle, grounded soul, and the way she raises her son with such love and respect is truly inspiring. From the moment Joy and Amaro arrived, they felt like family. It was easy to trust Joy with our children from day one, and our kids genuinely enjoyed the time they shared together. It feels almost impossible that half a year has already passed since their stay. A beautiful friendship has grown from that time, and as we are currently planning their return — not for a work exchange, but for a holiday — it’s finally time to write this long-overdue review. Thank you, Joy and Amaro. You will always have a home here with us, and we are already looking forward to seeing you again very soon. <3

Hey, I only spent two weeks at Franziska’s house, but it was absolutely worth it. I had an amazing time in her cozy home where I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed. She is a very easy-going person, and it was really fun helping her. I helped with various tasks, which she explained to me very well. Her kids are also really fun and communicative. There are lots of hiking trails in the area, which I can definitely recommend exploring.

I'm so glad I had the chance to stay at John's house for the past few days! He's a really nice person—friendly and easy to talk to. I enjoyed our daily conversations a lot. If you love exchanging life experiences, then this is the right place for you. In the evenings, we ate dinner together, watched some TV shows, and even played Monopoly! I mainly helped with some household tasks like cleaning and doing the dishes, etc.—nothing hard or complicated. The house is within walking distance of a shopping mall, restaurants, and cafés. I can totally recommend this place if you're just starting your NZ adventures.

We were lucky enough to stay with Sarndra for our first 9 days in NZ, she is such a positive, thoughtful, kind and funny person with such a wealth of knowledge. We immediately felt very welcome in her lovely home and really enjoyed hanging out with another workawayer too. The work was very organised and as described in her huge, magical garden overlooking the sea. We had good hearty food cooked by Sarndra everyday including her delicious apple crumbles! Its such a good location, lots to do and Sarndra went out of her way and brought us to some stunning local beaches to explore and was great help setting us up for the rest of our time in NZ. Highly recommend this workaway experience! Hope to see you again Sarndra <3

Bara is one of the most accomodating hosts we've met on Workaway, she accepted us for a short and very last minute stay, and we had a fantastic time! Her dogs are great and the surrounding area to walk them in is really nice, the other work was odd jobs around the house, mostly cleaning and reorganising which was satisfying work. Bara made sure we had free time to explore the area, and would always factor us into her comings and goings so we wouldn't have to pay for transport. We'd been travelling on a budget for a while, so eating the healthy and natural food Bara provided was a very welcome change, and her cooking was great. She also gave us a chance to buy any other food and snacks we wanted. Aside from that, she's super friendly, funny and is involved in really interesting and important work. Nice opportunity to have a cultural exchange with a well informed and down to earth local and learn more about both the area and the states in general. It's a shame we couldn't stay longer, thanks again!

I had a wonderful month in Tehuacan Puebla at the English school. It was my first time volunteering in my life and also first time using WorkAway! The school and the students were wonderful and welcoming. Oscar, the owner, was kind and helpful. My weeks there were filled with laughs and I was excited to plan conversation topics and activities! Tehuacán is a smaller city so walking in the center is easy and authentic. I loved it so much, I'm returning for another month to visit, explore the surrounding area and experience the holidays there! Thank you for a great experience!

Alex stayed with us for six weeks, and we are happy to have been her first Workaway hosts. Her time here coincided with a particularly intense period — a mix of major renovation work and the everyday chaos of life with young children — which she handled very well. Alex is a very thoughtful and intelligent person. It was remarkable to me that she asks very good questions, even when she encounters completely new topics. It shows her high level of awareness, which lastingly impressed me. With our children, she put in great effort, trying many different approaches to keep them busy. She is very sensitive and empathetic and provided valuable feedback on the matter. She was very motivated to come up with something new all the time. For the future, I would recommend kids of an older age who can better appreciate all she has to offer. We truly appreciate the dedication she brought to our home and daily life. We wish her all the best on her future adventures and are grateful that her Workaway journey started here. THANK YOU, ALEX!

hiiiiiii!I’m JoJo :) The four days with you were the happiest and most reluctant to part with me in Norway, we made bread, made dumplings, made noodles, ate hot pot, played board games with the kids, played hide and seek, chatted with Hanne and Martin, and went for a walk outside the house together, I love you soooooo much! Miss you all! ——JoJo I love you all. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful four-day stay. Jojo and I had a truly joyful time here—playing with the kids, having late-night chats with Martin and Hanne. I will cherish these memories forever: holding hands and dancing in circles around the Christmas tree to classic Norwegian tunes; playing hide-and-seek with Edwin and Alma, laughing every time we hid in the same spot; those deep conversations with Hanne and Martin, spanning from their twenties to ours, from the past to the future. And of course, I’ll always remember the special Christmas-only juice in Norway, Hanne’s sourdough bread with that tangy jam… We must meet in China—we’ll take you for authentic hot pot and noodles! By then, Hedda will surely be even more beautiful, Edwin might have grown taller than me, and I absolutely have to hug Alma (since I never got the chance last time haha). Eik will probably be talking by then, too. See you all in 2027! ——Xiyi

Fabian and Emelia were guests for approximately a month. They are a good team with each other and took on most all tasks assigned. They were friendly and easy going with flexibility to schedule changes. They were cooperative and communicative with only some instructional miscommunication. They left my home tidy while I was in Mexico at the end of their stay. They are trustworthy and hard workers and make excellent meals and very clean and organized. Happy travels!

Rémy has come to help us in the full winter conditions, so in addition to taking care of the sheep and helping with farm renovations, he is shoveling snow and pulling cars from a ditch. He is reliable, not scared of working hard and eager to learn new skills. Good solid help and natural curiosity, we can only recommend him further.

Anita stayed with us in the Peruvian jungle for two weeks, and we are truly grateful for her presence. Thank you, Anita, for all the grounding energy you brought into our home — it is truly your gift. She spent most of her time as a nanny with my four-year-old son, and he absolutely loved being with her. They shared so many joyful moments together. Anita is very tidy, thoughtful, and she asks the right questions at the right time. I highly recommend Anita as a Workawayer, especially for those who appreciate mindfulness, calm energy, and a caring presence.

We had a lovely stay with Barry and Marguerite! They are very generous and kind people and you will definitely never go hungry! We enjoyed helping with garden maintenance, their property looks like a city park! Their passion for car racing is part of their everyday life and was very cool to be part of! We would highly recommend a stay here, you will feel like you are at home again. Thanks again! Rachel and Eliot :)

We stayed one week at Mary and Adrian's home and it was amazing! They are so kind and friendly! And the area is beautiful (thank you for the tips). We helped them in their garden, we winded, collected fallen leaves, helped them to peel apples, and each day one tiny plant to move :) We exchanged about their culture, played some card games with them and their son and they even invited us to a traditional Halloween night! We'll never forget that. We also enjoyed the meals and scones of Mary, the chutney of Adrian and a lot of other tasting... :) What a laugh ! Mary and Adrian could be fun, relax, singers, meditators, players, cookers, a wonderful mix. Luna is so cute, and their cat as well "en ronronnant"... Thank you so much for everything !

I spent two weeks at Patrick and Anna's place this August, with my friend Ugnė, and we had a wonderful time. We mainly worked with the fruits trees (picking and preserving the fruits), the veggie garden and some other little jobs. All was always fun, we felt trusted to do the job right and it was very enjoyable to work in their peaceful garden :) They were very kind to take time to share their knowledge with us regarding the whole process of cheese making (from milking the animal to eating the cheese!), bread making (we started to do our own bread with their sourdough recipe and it's so tasty!) and other delicious recipes. We really enjoyed our time and the nice conversations so a big thank you for hosting us! And thanks for letting me play your piano :) We warmly recommend this Workaway to anyone interested in volunteering here.

Dear Yovana, Alain and Swami, we really enjoyed our time here! In the two weeks we stayed with you we had a lot of fun and also learned a lot. Even though there was a language barrier (because we are not fluent in spanish), we felt very welcome in your family and really liked cooking and eating together. We worked for 4-5 hours a day building an ecological bathroom with mud, which was very fun. Apart from working we cooked/ helped to cook dinner one or two times a day. The weekends are free and we spent our time hiking or going to the village to play football. It is a very simple and slow paced life at this place which we really liked. I hope we can return someday! We wish you the best of luck fulfilling your dream of an ecovillage! Jannis and Fiona

My first Workaway experience being with your family was truly wonderful😊 I know it probably wasn’t easy to communicate with me since I’m not fluent in English, but you were always kind and welcoming, and I’m very grateful for that. I’ve never met a family so warm, loving, and caring. You are the model of the kind of family I hope to build in the future. Whenever I had questions or wanted to talk, you always stopped what you were doing and listened to me sincerely. That meant so much to me. Your children were also so full of love—so sweet, kind, and healing to be around. The time I spent with your family is a precious treasure to me. I hope I can see you again someday. Thank you so much for the wonderful time💐

He was a great help in creating a frame for the solar panels at ground level. But that was just the fluf because he is an incredible person. we had great debats regarding religion, war, education, economics, books... Is a great thing when you have someone arounnd you that knows how to listen, to construcy an argument, that knkws how toblearn and teach at the same time. If you need help, read other hosts evaluations. If you search for cultural exchange and a great human, invite Marcel.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at this hostel. The facilities are beautiful and well-kept, and you truly have access to everything you might need during your stay. Sara, the manager, is one of the kindest and most supportive people. She prepares everything with a lot of care and gives you a clear, detailed script so you always feel confident with the work you’re doing. She’s always available if you have any questions or just need a bit of help. You can really feel how much she cares about the volunteers and the hostel, it even felt more like having a friend around all the time. The location is perfect since its close to the beach and the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. I genuinely had the best time here. The work requires focus, but it’s so enjoyable and easy that it doesn’t even feel like work. I’m incredibly grateful for my time at this hostel and would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful Workaway experience. I’d love to come back someday!

We spend two weeks with Koichi and his family in his wonderful home in the forest. He built all the houses and shelters by himself and we helped him around the huge garden cutting grass and during rainy days we helped a bit inside the house. The wohle family is super friendly, his wife Eriko cooked fresh and delicious food for us every day and the dogs are very cute and cuddly. It was such a cool and interesting experience to live so close to nature. The work was fun and we could always take small breaks when it got to hot or exhausting. We even got to see a live performance of Eriko's band in their garden. There are some small bugs in the house where we slept but we got used to it very quickly. I can really recommend staying there for a few weeks! Thank you so much for the wonderful time!
