Our baby loved spending time with Merve. She comforted him and read books with him. She cooked and baked delicious meals for us and helped out around the house. She was always on time, and she was very independent. She took care of her own leisure activities. And she even gave us homemade gifts. She really went out of her way for us. She was a huge help to me. It was nice to meet her ☺️

Camilla stayed at our house for one week. We greatly appreciated her volunteer work and dedication. She was always willing to help and approached every task with enthusiasm and care. She assisted with cleaning and also contributed her artistic talents by painting a beautiful mural to our space. Also, she is very easygoing. She joined the local event that we invited. We're looking forward to meeting Carlo!

I had a really wonderful time staying with Alina and Paul. They are incredibly kind, generous, and warm-hearted people. From the very first day, I felt welcome and at home.
Alina is such a lovely, caring, and cheerful person! We had many nice conversations and shared laughs together. Paul is an amazing cook, I truly enjoyed every meal he prepared. Also he knows a lot about German culture and history! He taught me about the differences between various German dialects, which I found very interesting.
I mostly helped in the garden and with some daily housework and they always checked if I was comfortable and had everything I needed.
The atmosphere in their home is calm, positive, and full of warmth. I’m really grateful for the time I spent with them and would definitely recommend staying with Alina and Paul to any Workawayer.
Thank you for everything, f. family:)
With lots of love,
Niya

Ernst is a very warm and social host. He makes you feel at home at Dalvesadji right away. For example by cooking lovely dinners, most of the time famous regional dishes. If you're open to try new things, he is your man. His pizza's are the best. My dog also felt very welcome and grew very fond of Ernst.
Ernst also ensures that there is plenty of time for relaxation alongside work. He taught me how to fish, with success, and now I have my own fishing rod. Besides fishing trips, Ernst took me on trips to friends and local must see spots. I experienced working on the project as fun and educational. I gain more confidence in working with tools.
I'm certain that I will visit Dalvesadji again in the future, to meet Ernst and other new friends again.

I had a great time petsitting for Merlin and Jeroen. They are lovely people and the communication was great. The cats were so sweet and I will really miss them and the house. Thanks for making me feel so at home even without being there.

I spent three weeks with this amazing family and honestly it was one the best volunteer experiences I ever had! I arrived as a foreign person and I left with tons of great memories and new friends. Simsy is super friendly and, even if I spoke very little French, she was helping me improve, and also very kind - she always asked if I liked the jobs I was doing. Jacob is a great fisherman and very kind too. Their daugther is full of energy and it was fun to paint with watercolours with her. They provided delicious meals and I also got the chance to travel a bit of NC with them. The jobs I did were fair and never too difficult to do. I recommend this awesome family to everyone. A bientôt!

I volunteered for a month in Sangla Valley. Big words like illuminating, amazing, and breathtaking could certainly suffice. Then real words like peaceful, quiet, busy, and cultural would also be accurate. Most aptly, I know for sure I’m going to be thinking about this experience for a long time.
I will be thinking about the beautiful treks, particularly Rakcham. I will be thinking about the staff, who were nothing but kind and helpful from day one. I will be thinking about the many guests I met, who came from interesting backgrounds and were interested in my life too. That’s always appreciated.
While at the start it was a bit slower, one should take it upon themselves to seek out jobs and helpful tasks. By the end, I was hiking most days and having a ball. Odd jobs included making menus, turning them into QR codes, and a personal favourite—carrying a toaster 16km to get it repaired.
Guests, as others have mentioned, might not be the strongest hikers, but encouragement and a little hand-holding got people to the end. It’s rewarding to see people finish and promise to hike more in the future. The whole point of getting outdoors! Yew!
I must also give a big shout-out to my fellow volunteer, Aman, who made the experience even more epic—and is now a friend.
Thanks to Tony, Manouj, Shishupal, Bhopinder, Om Prakash, and Captain Sood for the communication, for hosting me, and for generally helping out. All in all, a great experience!

Shinji stayed with us for three weeks, and having him here was truly a wonderful experience.
From the very beginning, he integrated beautifully into our team, and we had a great time working together. Shinji is a gentle, joyful, and incredibly bright person who brings a positive energy wherever he goes. He is always curious, eager to learn, and genuinely interested in the people and culture around him.
One of the highlights of his stay was the opportunity to share our cultures with each other. Shinji was always happy to introduce us to Japanese culture, and we especially enjoyed the Japanese cooking evenings we organized together. These moments created beautiful memories and meaningful connections.
What we appreciated most about Shinji is his kindness and openness. He has a very caring and thoughtful way of looking at the world and is always happy to engage in conversations, share experiences, and learn from others. His warm personality made him a pleasure to live and work with every day.
We are very grateful for the time we spent together and feel that this experience was much more than a simple Workaway exchange. We sincerely hope to see Shinji again in the future and continue the friendship that began during his stay.
We wholeheartedly recommend him to any host. He is a wonderful person, and anyone would be lucky to welcome him into their home and project.

Laia was a delightful guest in my cottage. A new member of the family she was immediately adopted by Alan the dog and Kitty the cat.
So helpful around the yard and the house, Laia made a huge impact in all the areas I had neglected, this was a great load off of my back and lifted the energy of my home.
We had great meals and walks and talks to complement all the work getting done.
Thank you Laia for your time and energy. It was very refreshing and delightful.
Best wishes on the rest of your journey.
I do hope we meet again, maybe in Catalonia.

I spent 5 days at the farm with Peter and another volunteer.
It owns an amazing location and offers a great variety of projects to be done. I joined for creative and stock tasks, however, more manual work was requested on site — clearing and organising common spaces, stables deep clean, gathering and cutting grass and tree branches. Even though the farm has equipment available for cutting grass, we were asked to perform it manually; no technician was on site and the host hadn’t prepared it for the work.
The sanitary conditions were a serious concern. There was no reliable access to clean drinking water — the only option available were bottles with visible mould, which we were expected to use. Access to showers was also limited. Food provided was minimal, so you might like to get more ingredients in the town supermarket.
About the stock task, unfortunately, four goats and their young died shortly before my stay due to illness caused by the barn not having been cleaned properly for months — the animals had been living in unsanitary conditions. Even though three of us tried to clean it, the scale of the situation required outside help from two village workers to address the worst of it.
It also became clear that the place lacks a manager to support volunteers with structured instructions. We had to redo tasks and were denied proper equipment. The host showed little interest in our suggestions on organising the work, though creative ideas were met with enthusiasm.
On the creative side, I really enjoyed making decorations for the campfire — it was one of the highlights of my stay. I also enjoyed the African night the host arranged for us; there is a beautiful collection of spiritual masks and sculptures in the main house and theatre, as well as a lot of thoughtfully produced media on the topic.
I also want to note one incident I witnessed directly. After a five-hour work shift on a very hot day, the host insisted on having an immediate conversation with the other volunteer. When she said she was unwell and needed a moment, his response was dismissive — he talked over her and asked her to be quiet. I was present and observed this exchange.
After noticing this dynamic, I made a personal decision to focus on content creation and the animal and creative sides of the work — and within that scope, my experience was good.
This place would greatly benefit from volunteers who are ready for physical, hands-on work — and from a host approach that supports open communication. With the right conditions, there is real potential to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere this unique location has to offer!
I’m very grateful for this experience and wish all the best! 🙌💖

Lisa and Anton stayed with us for a week. During that short time they were a fantastic help. They harvested rhubarb and weeded very many square meters of hardy weeds in our garden. They were also so very kind to come with Mark on a trip to transport some heavy furniture one evening.
Lisa and Anton were always cheerful and positive and it was a joy to have them around. They were also very patient with my bad German when playing board games. We hope they come back!

I couldn't be more grateful to Bjarni. He is an incredibly generous person and made this experience unforgettable.
His love of books and Icelandic culture is inspiring, his knowledge is remarkable, and above all, he was always kind, helpful, and did everything he could to make us feel at home.
Personally, I was deeply touched by this experience, and I haven't been quite the same since. It was a meaningful and transformative time for me. The other Workawayers were wonderful as well, and sharing this journey with them made it even more special.
Takk fyrir Bjarni.

Jeanne came from France, the backpack was almost the same size and turned out to contain many qualifications: She is open and curious, a yes person who tackles tasks with positive energy. She paints doors, cleans, makes jam and French omelets. During breaks, at meals and on excursions we have had many interesting conversations, and she also has a good head. After 3 weeks we sent Jeanne on by ferry north from Hirtshals. Give her a warm welcome.

I really enjoyed my 6 days stay with Hiro. He is a very communicative person and always happy to share suggestions on how to explore and appreciate the city. I also had the chance to taste and watch the preparation of his plum wine, which was delicious.
We spent some fun time together, and thanks to Hiro I was able to discover different neighborhoods of Tokyo and learn more about Japanese culture. The other roommates were also very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Regarding the work, the schedule is very flexible. Hiro is open to discussing and organizing the tasks that need to be completed during your stay, but after that everyone is free to manage their days independently. There are no fixed working hours. During my stay, I helped with cleaning parts of the bathroom and kitchen and painted a section of the mural. There are still a few empty spots left, so you can find your own space to contribute.
I slept in a tent inside the house, located on the landing outside the three housemates' rooms. There was not much space to store personal belongings, and it is true that the house can be a bit dusty, a certain level of adaptability is needed. However, for a short stay, and considering the opportunity to live with local people and spend quality time together, I would still describe the experience as a positive one.
Thank you, Hiro, for your hospitality and for sharing a part of your life and culture with me 🤗
