Kevin and Anina here 🙂
We’ve been travelling and volunteering through Workaway for the past 8 months and have had many wonderful experiences along the way. We especially enjoy longer stays, as they allow us to feel more settled, build deeper connections with hosts, and really immerse ourselves in the projects—so that we are able to see them through from start to finish.
Here are some of the things we’ve been involved in so far:
> Harvesting and preserving food
> Mushroom foraging
>Chopping and organising wood (including chainsaw use)
>Tending to vegetable gardens
>General garden maintenance: weeding, strimming, clearing, and even removing a huge cactus!
>Composting
> Making biochar
> Renovation and restoration work (e.g. painting, scraping)
>Carpentry: making curtain poles, shelves, trellises
> Building a fence and pool shelter using cane
>Making kombucha and fermented foods
>Cooking duties
> Homemade fertiliser production
>Two house-sitting roles, including cat care
>Teaching English and French at a language school in Morocco
We’re currently in Spain and have been here for over four months. We’re now looking for our next adventure—and we’re flexible about where we go next if the right opportunity comes up.
In our spare time, we’re working on setting up our own business—creating software for social services. We’re also using this time to learn off-grid and practical living skills, as our dream is to buy land and start a project of our own one day.
Here is a little more about us:
Kevin:
Since I was a teenager, I always wanted to create an autonomous little heaven where I can be more in sync with nature, and cultivate plants and forests. Receive people and show that there is another way of life other than the 9 to 5 in a city. I'm deeply curious about building an ecological house.
To be honest, I think society has a massive problem with the way we separate ourselves from nature and I’d like to acquire another way of living. A more human way, where our neighbours are not enemies and nature is not a blurred concept that we can find around cities. But a local treasure where people can connect and work as a community. I’m deeply open-minded, I value more than anything free knowledge and sharing my skills is part of my values. My physical strength, my bad jokes and my technical knowledge will be at your service. ;)
Anina:
It may not come as a surprise that I'm on the same wavelength as Kevin—we share similar goals and values in life. I crave being surrounded by nature and want to make a positive contribution to the land rather than deplete its resources. I’m seeking a deeper connection—not only with the land but also with the people around me—and I value creating a sense of community wherever I go.
Before setting off on this journey, I completed a degree in Psychology and have a strong interest in both mental and physical well-being. I practice yoga daily—it’s a core part of my own wellness and something I enjoy sharing with others. I also practice massage and love making healthy foods like pickles, sauerkraut, and kombucha.
While travelling in Nepal, I completed a Permaculture Design Course, which deepened my passion for growing food. The garden has truly become my happy place—it’s where I’ve found the most joy during our travels. I also light up around animals and am always happy to help care for them.
Generally, I enjoy pushing myself outside my comfort zone, whether that’s thru-hiking, camping, skiing, or anything with a bit of adrenaline.
Workaway is an extremely exciting opportunity for us as we feel it provides a fantastic platform to share skills and get the true experience of a country/culture. We will look forward to hearing from you or contacting some hosts very soon :)
We wish you the best of luck with your projects!!
Peace, love and happiness to you all.Centres d’intérêt
