    Description

6 week position available: from May 15th.

3 week position available: from June 7th.

September and October 2025 - applications open on July 1st.

We are looking for physically fit team players who love walking/hiking in nature, possessing a genuine interest in meeting and greeting people.

    Accommodation and meals provided.

Preference given to volunteers aged twenty-five years and older.

Due to our very remote locations, where electricity and internet coverage can be unreliable, we are unable to host volunteers who are bringing their own telephone/internet-based work/studies with them. Sorry!

We provide accommodation advice for Delhi and help with onward travel arrangements to our sites in the north. Please note: Delhi hotel and onward travel costs are at the volunteer's expense.

We have a zero tolerance policy with regards to drugs. The consumption of alcohol - including days off and away from the properties - must be conducted with respect to our company reputation, showing utmost regard and courtesy to the conservative villagers and traditional villages in these remote areas.

We place volunteers at three remote locations, all situated in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh:

    THANEDHAR: (2400 metres)
Please note: there is a climb of 93 steps from the retreat to the road, volunteers can expect to make the return climb two to three times daily.
Reasonably reliable wi-fi internet access on site.
From Delhi: a bus leaves from Delhi's Kashmiri Gate at 19.25, arriving Narkanda at approx 08.30 (13 hours) - volunteers will be collected from Narkanda for the short drive to Thanedhar.

    SOJHA: (2683 meters)
Please note: there is a climb of 137 steps from the retreat to the road, volunteers can expect to make the return climb two to three times daily.
No on-site wi-fi internet access, please enquire about Indian purchased SIM cards with data-plans.
From Delhi: travellers will travel by bus in the Manali direction, then by local bus through Kullu - Aut - Banjar - Jibhi - Sojha.

    SANGLA: (2740 metres)
Please note: to volunteer at Sangla you need to be physically strong and capable of daily hikes of some endurance.
No on-site wi-fi internet access, please enquire about Indian purchased SIM cards with data-plans.
From Delhi: using local buses, this is a very long haul - 18 to 20 hours. To lessen the potential for altitude sickness and travel fatigue, we recommend breaking the journey in Shimla (staying the night and preferably staying two nights) before catching an early morning bus from Shimla to Sangla Village. Please note that our property is situated alongside Batseri village, on the Chitkul Road, approximately 8 kilometres (5 miles) beyond Sangla Village.

All three properties maintain between 6 to 8 full time staff. We choose local villagers wherever possible.

Our three sites are situated in very remote areas. This remoteness has allowed the local people to continue to lead simple lives whereby traditional values are still very much in evidence. To witness this firsthand, perhaps making friendships along the way with local villagers, being the recipient of their curiosity and hospitality, is a learning experience to embrace, respect and cherish.

    Aide

We host Workawayers with the express aim that their presence will positively enhance the stay of our guests.
The primary Workawayer role across our properties will be to learn the various and nearby walking and hiking trails (most rated easy to moderate in difficulty) and once feeling confident to do so, lead guests for walks and hikes.
A secondary role is to be on hand to assist staff as required and also to socialise with our (mostly Indian) guests over a cup of chai by day or sitting around the bonfire at night.
