Workaway Update – Volunteers Needed in September & April
This year, we are looking for a small group of Workawayers to join us from September 6th to October 5th. We plan to host 5-6 people who can help with various small repairs and building projects. Some experience in this kind of work would be greatly appreciated! In addition, there will be gardening tasks and some physically demanding work.
There may also be an opportunity for 1-2 volunteers from April 16th to April 30th to assist with weeding and minor repairs.

We live on a small farm on the island of Bornholm, in Denmark. We have a big organic vegetable and flower garden and animals, which include 5 horses, 2 Kunekune pigs, 4 sheep, 2 cats, 7 ducks, a lot of chicken and 2 dogs. The farm is located close to the coast in a beautiful area.
We gather a group of workawayers a few times a year since this setting works well for us (and also for the volunteers!) Accordingly, this means that we prefer persons who can join the group for the whole period. We also prefer individual travelers since that creates the best group dynamics.
The work here is to help with different garden projects, general maintenance, stone paths, carpentering, weeding, painting, repairing and other farm work, mostly outdoors and some of it might be rather heavy work.
You will probably meet some of our children, Astrid (33)Janus (30) Emma (30)Freja (27) Oskar (26)and Iris (24)during weekends and holidays.
We train our dogs, horses and mini pigs with clicker training (positive reinforcement) and we use horsemanship with our horses.
Finn works full time outside the farm, but Susan works part time during the week and takes time off in the workaway period.

Practical skills aquired from the many different tasks around the farm. A relaxed environment where you will feel at home in no time. It is also possible to borrow a car (you pay the gas yourself) or you can borrow a bike from us to explore the island. The friendship and fun in the small diverse group is also a lovely bonus.

Aide
Most of the work is outside, mainly in the garden.
One of the jobs needed will be feeding the animals and different gardenwork.
You will also be a part of the daily work in the household, including dishwashing, cleaning ect.

One big room for four ,two room for two. And one single room for anyone to use when they want some quiet time.

Sometimes it may be possible to try to ride the horses, but as we ride differently to most riding schools you will only ride accompanied by someone who knows the horses - this is whether you have experience or not. We would also like to mention that our horses are small and young, so for their well-being, we have a weight limit of 70 kg for riding them. We appreciate your understanding!
The name of the island is Bornholm (40.000 citizens) however the island is very popular during the summer. It is located in the Baltic sea and is closer to Sweden than to the rest of Denmark. It is the only place in Denmark with a rocky terrain and since the island is small you are never too far from the ocean (whether you like rocks, stone or sand beaches).
The farm is located right next to the ocean by "Teglkås", it is possible to swim from the coast. And there are hiking routes, for example to "Jon's Kapel".

Chris is a very nice and polite guy.
He stayed at our farm for about a month and he did a lot of Hugelbed digging, he is also very good at getting up threes with roots and preparing for paths, further more he did some cleaning and Stonehenge making.

We were so lucky to have this very charming and hard working person staying with us for a month! He was so social in the group of Workawayers staying at our place, and he has such good humour! He was so competent, positiv, open minded and reliable, doing every job we asked for. Amazing personality with a special flair for stonepad puzzles;)

We were so lucky to have Michelle in our house for about two weeks. She is so positive and helpful. She really did a good job her, helping with the animals, cooking and doing gardening. She is very open minded, social and so reliable!

We were very happy having Rodrigo at our place. He is a positive, easy going, helpful, lovely guy. He did a lot of heavy work, like digging holes in the ground for horse fences and helped us until every thing from our old house was moved to the new farm.

Extraordinary people on an extraordinary location.
Never met a couple of people as empathetic as Susan and Finn.
We had great local fresh food prepared by Susan, every day.
I had the pleasure to paint the walls of their stylish home.
