Description
We are a Kiwi/Aussie couple with 2 small mountain lodges in Myoko. We love the outdoors and have a 2-year-old boy. We are looking for people who are happy to help with a range of different tasks, we need help, with cleaning, painting, light renovation projects, landscaping, cooking, and also website work/content creation. If you have any experience in any of these areas then please tell us about it as we love to work to people's strengths and passions.

We are currently looking ahead to our projects in Spring (a beautiful time in Japan) There will be availability in April and May at this stage for the right people. PLEASE NOTE: we will only accept requests for our Spring project from March 2024. As we are heading into the busiest part of our year we won't have the time to respond to any request until things quieten down. We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a safe and fun NY we looking forward to meeting and chatting with you all in March.

Myoko is a wonderland of nature and outdoor activities. In the summer/autumn there is mountain biking, hiking, rivers, and lakes to enjoy. The winter's a mecca for skiing and snowboarding. We live down a friendly little culdesac with our Japanese neighbors. We are an easy-going couple that are keen to share our home and local knowledge with like-minded and helpful travelers.

Hébergement
During the green season, you will have your own room at our main lodge in Ikenotaira with plenty of space, with either a single or double bed depending on the availability maybe an ensuite.

With access to a big commercial kitchen, we have multiple common areas to relax and watch TV or read a book. Unlimited wifi though out the lodge.

There are some great walks and hiking in Myoko in the summer months with a lake close by, bars, and restaurants and within an hour's drive of both Joestu and Nagano, if you wanted to check out the cities, We are happy to help with transport around Myoko.

Laura & Cristina were a good help, and great to have around, they are very inqustive and eager to learn they got stuck into some painting and plastering and other odd jobs helping with renovating our new Pizza shop before the coming winter. We had a fantastic time in Myoko with Tayler, Neil and Finn! We spent there 3 weeks and in the end we were sad to leave. I recommend this workaway and I would go there again in a heartbeat :)

The work was very varied, depending on your skills or the needs that they had at that time. In our case we cleaned, painted, plastered and cleaned the… read more bushes. Other people were doing more serious renovation work with wood, others were on cooking duty, others were cleaning the houses that they own for preparation of the winter season, among other type of work.

We work on a off everyday, so from the 3 weeks we stayed, 2 weeks we work 4 days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) and one week we work 3 days (Tuesday,Thursday, Sunday), and more or less 4 hours a day and in the morning (somedays were 5h and some days were 3h). Overall was very balanced and relaxed, as we had the evening off all days of the week.

During the 3 weeks of work that we had, we were from 7 to 12 workawayers in the house, but every couple had its own spacious and beautiful room (with its own sink) so in any moment it felt like it was too crowded. Basically we were sleeping in a newly renovated hotel rooms that will be used during winter season so it felt like vacations sometimes. Tayler and Neil are really kind and generous: we shared many activities together, playing Catan, bbqs, listening to music while working, etc. They had 4 cars so we could take the car whenever we needed to go explore the region or buy groceries, that was amazing on their part and a huge game changer on our experience in Myoko. If we wouldn't have a car, it would have been harder to experience the beauty of Myoko, although not impossible as there are many things to do there as well.

Myoko is fantastic in Autumn, it was beautiful to see how the foliage was starting to change from green to yellows and reds. We saw many wild animals around the region while hiking or during our night adventures to the supermarket: foxes, squirrels, ferrels, wild pigs and even one big deer.
I would recommend to climb Mount Myoko, it was an amazing hike! Also Togakushi shrine, Naena falls, and visit Nagano!
Go to Narus for cheap sashimi and go to the pond to enjoy nice bbq with friends.

If you like nature and you like quiet life in the mountains, go to Myoko! If you are lucky as we are to share the space with many workawayers, don't be afraid, we were people ranging from 22 to 50 years old and I believe we had an amazing time together! Thank you Tayler and Neil, we will come to see the results of all the renovation on January and eat pizza in the pizza shop! Hopefully we will recognize Finn, he is growing so fast! ^^

Amazing experience!
We were 12 workawayers the first night we arrived at the Mountain Hut, that was a big surprise, although we enjoyed every bit of it.
