I'm volunteering on the south coast of Sri Lanka for the next few weeks and keen to meet other travellers who are learning to surf!

I'm Tom and I come from rainy Manchester UK! I'm an easy-going, thoughtful, and positive person who enjoys socialising and spending time with others while also cherishing my time alone to recharge. I'm organised, tidy, and reliable, and highly respectful of others’ personal space.

I'm backpacking long-term (currently in Sri Lanka after two months in the Himalayas of North India) and prefer to travel slowly. I value community, connection, and shared experiences, and I'm hoping to find volunteering opportunities where I can settle, become part of a family, and make life-long friends.

In my spare time I enjoy going to gigs, making music with friends, swimming, running (badly), politics and current affairs, cooking, learning about new cultures and languages, and more recently I am learning to surf and exploring yoga :)

I have a fairly varied background which I think would lend well to Workaway experiences in hospitality, customer service, or teaching.

For the past two and a half years I've worked in government as a Research Analyst looking at youth unemployment. Before this, I had a three-year spell as a Bartender and then Bar Supervisor in a music venue, a few years of customer service experience in a clothes store, and around a year working in a fast-food restaurant.
