Hi!!

I’m Sara, an open-minded and outgoing 22-year-old with an immense passion for travelling and meeting new cultures! I grew up in Portugal in a small town near the beach called Cascais and completed my undergraduate studies in London. Having studied in a British school and done university in a multicultural city like London, I have always had an international upbringing and have been used to fitting in amongst different people and cultures.

Having been lucky enough to visit 35 countries until now, I have always wanted to dedicate a few months of my life a backpacking trip. After a one-month volunteering programme in the Dominican Republic, a three-week backpacking trip in Guatemala and Mexico, and visits to Brazil, Colombia and Honduras, I quickly fell in love with the Latin American culture and people, with their warmth, language and culinary expertise.

I knew without a doubt that I needed to further explore the region, and so decided to embark on a 4-month backpacking trip starting in Brazil, followed by Chile, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Belize and Mexico. Having already completed three-weeks of this trip and currently volunteering at an indigenous village in an isolated area of Brazil, I can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip will bring, hopefully filled with various types of volunteering opportunities and the chance to meet new people and cultures from all over the world.

I have always been known amongst my friends and work colleagues to be positive, communicative, hard-working, adventurous, energetic and kind. I also speak Portuguese, English and Spanish fluently, and intermediate French, ensuring that communication will never be an issue.

My personal interests are reading, and any way I can find to express myself and be creative. I also love horse riding, playing tennis and padel and have always loved sailing and any other activities involving the sea. I am also passionate about politics, international relations and current affairs, which I pursued in university. My favourite thing to do is definitely spending time with family, friends and meeting new people.

As you can see in my connected profile, I am travelling and looking to volunteer with two of my best friends from university. We have known each other for 4 years now and have always been extremely close, having travelled together around Europe and experienced many highs and lows. I am excited to share this journey with them and meet new cultures, people, volunteer wherever our help can be needed. We can’t wait to lend an helping hand to whatever host will be kind enough to host us, and see what the next 4 months will bring! :)

I have always been organised, highly adaptable and a fast learner, with extensive volunteering and practical experience over the years in areas such as working with children, teaching, babysitting, social development, hospitality, marketing, content creation and social media management. I also have experience in photography and public relations and have always been described as being outgoing, adaptable and easy to work with.

I can offer help in any area necessary, and aside from the skills I mentioned above, I also love animals, nature and adventure, cooking, practical, manual work and teaching. I also love learning about everything and anything, and am happy to develop my skills in a new area!
