Hello! My name is Sam and I am from Ireland.

I am a Composer, Musician (Pianist and Guitarist), Skateboarder, Music Teacher, and Inspirer. I also love Meditation, Lightning and Nature :)

As a Native English Speaker and Music Teacher, I have a particular interest in Alternative Education Methods and would love to learn more about them. I love kids and have a natural talent for teaching and inspiring. One of my favourite things is to inspire kids! Looking for real human connection in a familial atmosphere.

I have taught Music, Composition, Music Theory, Piano and Guitar to individual music students and also to classes in music schools and conservatoires. I have also taught Skateboarding individually and in groups through associations at skateparks in Ireland.

I have done Music Education workshops with children at The Irish Association of Youth Orchestras and I have volunteered at classical music festivals, helped build a boat, a meditation centre, helped in the construction of skateparks, and taught English and Music through Workaway.

I have a natural talent inspiring children. I love helping them discover their true authenticity, primarily through: Inspiration, lessons, teaching, play, creativity, sports, movement, and language. It is important to follow the individual nature of each child.

I studied Classical Music at National Conservatoires in Ireland and subsequently at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, France. I specialised in Composition and Performance (Piano) with secondary studies in Music Therapy and Pedagogy. Currently I am based between France and Ireland. I love travelling and I would like to discover a few genuine connections in Europe.

Apart from my work as a professional composer, musician, artist, and being a life-long skateboarder, I have experience in tutoring and childminding: Childcare from (8 to 16 year olds), private music tuition (5 to 18 year olds), class teaching and music schools, youth orchestra summer camp (primary and secondary school), university assistant (post secondary school), and infusing aspects of movement therapy such as working with breathing, physicality, pilates, Alexander Technique and Dalcroze method.

Helping around the house would be a pleasure, as well as cooking and gardening. I am very imaginative when it comes to creative play, as mentioned above. I also love football, snooker, darts, reading, and the ocean. Travel and genuine cultural exchange is important for me and I wish to discover more of France, Italy and Spain. My work is done primarily from my laptop, so I am very flexible.

I am open-minded, curious and a bit perfectionist. I value mutual respect, authenticity and genuine connection. I have lots of positive energy to share in the right atmosphere.

I spent three fantastic weeks with the lovely Isabel and her wonderful son Silvio.

Isabel is very friendly, open, warm and welcoming. She will do anything to make you feel at home.
Silvio is very cute, friendly, energetic and talented. He learns fast and is always doing many different activities.

We did so much in these three weeks that it is… read more hard to put it into such a short space!

My main job was in helping Silvio with English, French, Music (Piano, Singing, Music Technology), Art, and Sports (Skateboarding, Exercise, Football).

Additionally, I looked after him some evenings when we would hang out and do various activities. This gave Isabel some more free time to focus on herself or other things. I was happy to do this in order to help out, as Silvio is great fun to be with.

I taught him either in the mornings or the afternoons for 4/5 hours, alternating with another home-school teacher he had for science and maths.

In general, we did about an hour of French, then English, followed by Physical Exercise/Movement, and then alternating either Arts Class, Music (Piano Lesson, Singing Lesson, Music Technology on my laptop), or the Giant Paper Plane Project(!) that we developed together. This was Silvio's main focus during my time there and it was a great project to undertake. Essentially, we designed and made a Giant Paper Plane of around 200 pages. It took a steady effort over the course of the three weeks to build it. Isabel was very open and free in letting us make it in the living room and also in buying a lot of sellotape. It was giant!! I will upload photos to Workaway, who knows maybe it could win the photo competition, haha. It was brilliant for Silvio to experiment with different methods while building it and to bring it to a local outdoor football court to fly it together on the last day. i am sure he will build many more ;)

I had my own spacious bedroom with a very comfortable bed and I had everything I needed in terms of food and amenities, kindly provided by Isabel. She shared some of her lovely Colombian recipes and her very creative use of lime. She also took us for churros with amaaazing chocolate sauce one evening and for THE best Tortilla Español I have ever had.

Silvio loved the present I brought him - Jenga - We had a lot of fun playing together, while also knocking it down with the paper planes and electric train set.

Then there was skateboarding! I thoroughly enjoyed teaching Silvio skateboarding. We skated together near the apartment and at a skatepark also. I managed to teach him a few new tricks which was great. He also said that while skating he really appreciated the sensation of freedom! I loved that.

I could mention so many other great things we did. My last point would be that although we got so much done in these jam-packed three weeks, I think both myself and Isabel felt that our approaches to a few things were slightly different, however this did not stop us from accomplishing so much together and having a lot of fun!!
