    Gomez ------------------

Hello all. My name is Marvin but I go by Gomez. I grew up in the United States on the east coast and gained a love for travel when I first dropped everything to move to Puerto Rico. Ever since then I look for the next big trip and Workaway has been immensely helpful in that regard. I would consider myself both an outdoors sort of person and a home body. I can enjoy tent camping just as much as I can enjoy a relaxed day staying in watching a movie or drawing in my sketchbook. Personality wise I have a calm demeanor and receive a lot of praise from those I meet for being friendly and generally a happy individual. But give me the right energy and I can play just as hard as the rest. I'd say I'm well rounded and can get accommodated to most anything.

I lean toward the creative side and like drawing or generally being artistic. This is why I went to school for Graphic Design and through that acquired skills regarding computer based drawing, some basic web design, and some photography. It was a good compromise in using my art skills for something practical. I studied for two years before I decided to travel around and discover the world beyond my bubble of comfort. I also took up woodworking as a hobby mostly building random creations for the fun and challenge of it all. It's a good hobby for me as I tend to be handy and do well with hands on projects.

I've also had worked as a lifeguard for over 4 years and had certifications for CPR, first aid, and AED use. I may be a little rusty at this point but I still have some basics down. Eventually in my travels I found my love of sailing and went all in to make a career out of it. I started learning in the Florida Keys where I worked on smaller boats then moved to working on tall ships for a while. Currently I'm a sailor on a big research vessel that travels the world. It's a great job that give me plenty of free time when I'm not actively at sea. This is great in that it give me more time to travel not to mention all the foreign ports I go to while I'm working. So with around 6 months at sea and 6 months of free time divided throughout the year I'd say it's a pretty good job to have for a traveler. So at this point I have a varied sailing resume.

I first started travelling around 2014 and have successfully used this site to travel and volunteer. It's been great and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

    Maya Lynn------------------

Hello, I'm Maya Lynn. Growing up, my parents made it a priority to make sure I was well-traveled. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion, and now as an adult, I’ve definitely caught the travel bug. As a child and young teen, I often traveled across Europe to visit my uncle in the French Alps. Every other year, we’d stay with him and explore another part of Europe along the way.

When I wasn’t flying with my mum, I was off camping with my dad. He was a true outdoorsman and introduced me to more adventurous activities like wake surfing, off-roading, and just about anything that involved wheels in the desert or the forest. Growing up in Colorado gave me the perfect playground to experience it all and develop a deep love for the outdoors. Like nature, I have a calm, introspective side — but I can also be bold, adventurous, and outgoing.

I really began to take ownership of my love for travel when I moved to Portugal three and a half years ago. It started with short trips to places like London and Paris, but by 2023, I was backpacking through France, Spain, and Morocco. Along the way, I also spent time volunteering in different parts of Portugal.

For the last four years, I've supported this lifestyle with a remote job in digital marketing. It's allowed me to work from nearly anywhere, but I recently made the decision to focus on my own business creating herbal medicines and remedies. t’s been incredibly fulfilling — not only because it taps into my values, but also because it lets me express my creative side.

Creativity has always been a big part of who I am. I have a fierce passion for the arts and have taught myself a variety of creative skills over the years, including painting, photography, drawing, and using Adobe Photoshop. I’m equally comfortable spending hours immersed in writing, reading, or solo creative projects, as I am collaborating with others—whether that’s cooking together, solving problems, or building something with my hands. In addition to my artistic pursuits, I also have a basic knowledge of woodworking.
