Hi! I’m Acey, and I’m 23. I’m originally from Hood River, Oregon, USA, but I grew up partially in Casablanca, Morocco and Florence, Italy, then moved to Seattle, Washington for university in 2019. Now, 6 years later, I’m back in my hometown. I have a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, I’m a freelance interior designer, and I work at my former primary school in the special needs classroom.

I’m someone who stops when I see new posters for upcoming events in my community and writes them down in my calendar. I love opportunities to gather with people I know and finding things in common with people I don’t. I learned to adapt to new cultures at a young age, so I can settle into new environments quickly, and I respect the ways people are different from me. I love making things and am always eager to collect new skills & hobbies.

My greatest hope for my life is to rely on land and community instead of money for survival. I’ve wondered how I can make this a reality for years. But now, I’m a transgender person living under Trump in the US, and I’m hoping for the best but planning for the worst. I feel a new sense of urgency to learn to grow & preserve food, raise pollinators, maintain buildings, and manage sustainable building systems because I want to offer to my community these survival skills as America changes in the coming decades.

For years, I’ve looked forward to returning to the EU and seeing the places I knew as a teenager with my adult, design-oriented eyes. My family planned a trip to Italy this May, and I decided to extend my visit by working one week at a time on farms across Western & Northern Europe. I’m open to learning a wide variety of skills related to farming and community cultivation. I do not expect to master any skills in such a short time, but I do expect to form meaningful relationships and learn a little about many types of communities and farming styles.

I’m very organized, curious, teachable, and I value open communication. I work carefully, ask lots of questions, and approach my tasks like an artist. It If I understand what I’m doing, I can produce very high-quality work—it just might not happen quickly.
