I am based in the UK, am 44 years young and have been surfing for 8 years. I am a Materials Engineer and am taking a career breaking after being made redundant in August 2024. I spent September and October surfing in Indonesia and after being back in the cold and away from the beach for the last few months, I want to get back to a surf destination for a few months. So, I’ve joined Workaway to stretch out my career break and see more of the world.
I believe I have a lot to offer Workaways. I’m good at DIY – I converted my own van into a campervan, have made cabinets in my home and can strip wall paper and paint rooms for days. A lot of workaways require gardening work which also appeals, because I find gardening very satisfying because I love getting my hands in mud and spending the day outdoors. I also enjoy cooking and feeding people and have even catered a yoga retreat and worked in ‘Crew Food’ at a festival.
I am originally from the USA, but have lived in the UK for 21 years. I’m really keen to try living somewhere more remote and learning how to speak Spanish – since my only language is English. Learning another language would open up engineering jobs in surf destinations too.

- I can cook and bake - vegan, vegetarian, and meat.
- I enjoy DIY - painting, building simple cupboards, stripping wallpaper - I converted my van into a campervan.
- I used to be an artist - so I could paint an abstract mural.
- I really enjoy gardening, but only have a patio garden at my house so would love to work on actual ground and soil.

During my career break I am going to do some remote learning in Data Science and Structural Analysis.
