Apologies for my late review post! I had such a special one month at Rocci’s cute hostel! Rocci is an incredibly kind person who always takes an excellent care of both hosts and workawayers. I got one room for myself and stayed comfortably during my stay. I usually worked in the morning and mainly helped her cleaning, repairing and decorating the rooms for the guests. The place is located about 20 minutes from the centro of Oaxaca. There is a bus stop just in front of the house, so it is pretty convenient to go to Centro (but the way back takes longer). If you walk 10-15 minutes, there is a local town where you can get pretty much everything you will need for your stay here (panadería, lavandería, comedor, etc). I could visit centro on the weekend and also major sightseeing places such as Monte Alban, Mitle, and Hierve de Agua. Rocci was so kind to invite us to dinner on Christmas and New Year with her son and daughter. She also took us to her church on Sundays where we could interact with local people. I really enjoyed talking and getting know the guets through cooking in the outdoor kitchen. I was so lucky to be a workawayer in her place and it was such a pleasure to meet Rocci and her sweet family members. I’ll never forget this experience and treasure this special memory for the rest of my life. ¡Muchas gracias por tu amabilidad, cuidado y cariño! Estoy realmente agradecida con Dios por haberme dado esta oportunidad de ser voluntaria de Workaway y aprender tanto de ti. Gracias también por tener paciencia con mi español! I wish the best for you and your family! We’ll keep in touch:)

I originally planned to stay for two weeks, but ended up staying for a month! I’m so glad I did. From the very beginning, I felt incredibly welcomed. Each morning started around 8:30am, and the tasks varied daily — weeding, planting flowers and vegetables, cleaning up after the children (who are wonderfully chaotic in the best way), and even learning how to plant rice. The rice planting was definitely a highlight. I also learned how to make soap! After finishing the morning tasks, I usually had plenty of free time, and I enjoyed helping look after the children while their mum cooked. Her mochi bread is AMAZING. Is it fuwafuwa or mochimochi? It’s ✨fuwamochi✨ I’m so grateful for everything I learned, and I’ll forever be puzzled and fascinated by onomatopoeia in children’s books 😆 Satsuki is an incredibly sweet child. I don’t think I ever had a single issue with her. She became very attached to my Totoro phone charm, and every morning she would run up to me saying, “Totoro, Totoro, Totoro.” It was amazing to see how much her language developed even in the short time I was there. If you wear glasses, beware! She loves to steal them and run away 😆 Yamato is full of energy in the best way. He has lots of little rules, loves to complain a bit, but also loves juice, singing in the car, and having battles with his handmade paper creations. He kept everything lively and entertaining, and is a joy to be around when you have the energy to match him. I had wonderful conversations with both Naoko and Guchan, mainly about language but many other things too! Naoko is fabulous at English, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching language videos and discussing Akiya renovation/carpentry with Guchan. Overall, I had such an amazing time here. I was introduced to an amazing community here in Taketa, and I feel very grateful to have stayed with this family. 本当にありがとうございました!

'Twas a dynamic, enlightening & serendipitous workaway - especially for a city girl! I experienced so much... - learning what sheep, goats, piggies, chickens and ducks eat (LOOP!) - learning multiple languages and cultures, as there were fellow workaways with me - seeing the world with whimsy from playing with the kids - eating farm fresh eggs for breakfast everyday (never seen yolk so golden) - trying bacon from happy pigs while on a spontaneous trailer camping trip and more.. Thank you Lauren, Ciaran, Ellia & Calla :)

We really enjoyed having Finn and Caitie stay with us for two weeks. They were easygoing, friendly, and always willing to help where needed. We also enjoyed sharing meals and conversations with them, and they got along very well with our toddler. We wish them all the best for the rest of their travels and a great Summer in the Yukon!

I stayed at the center for two wonderful weeks. Everyone there is so compassionate and welcoming. I talked to many of them about how they came into Buddhism and ended up their center, they're all very open and listening to their stories was transformative for me. I got to to attend some of the meditations and tso offerongs which was an awesome privilege. The work ranged from mopping to chopping vegetables to weeding to cleaning rooms to making pizzas! All so much fun and in good company! The atmosphere is tranquil and there are smiling faces everywhere. it's a wonderful place to be.

I had a wonderful time at Liv's beautiful home. I highly recommend doing a workaway with her if you get the chance. It was above and beyond my expectations. I helped with some gardening, cleaning windows and sugar soaping some walls to help prepare for painting. I only stayed with Liv for 1 week, but would have loved to have stayed for longer. She cooked us delicious, nutritious meals for dinner, and she took me to the nearby National Park to show me around. I had been in need of some calming, grounded time, and I found exactly what I needed at Liv's place. I recently started learning to weave baskets, and it was a beautiful space to work on my weaving projects and get some advice from Liv. I was amazed by how many different types of birds frequented her garden. Having a bath with water heated by the wood stove was a highlight for me! I had one of the most relaxing baths of my life. Thanks so much Liv, I am very grateful for you hospitality <3

Meredith is an amazing young woman. Her desire to learn and help was out of this world. She is very respectful of house rules and always wanting to carry out tasks as best as possible. Her full of life attitude means she was willing to take on any task with a smile and can also hold a wonderful conversation on just about any topic. It was an absolute pleasure having Meredith stay and I have no hesitation in recommending her as a workawayer. Thank you Meredith 🌺

I had a great time volunteering with Fifi and her family. I stayed for five days and mainly helped with weeding. Fifi is very thoughtful and always made sure I knew I could take it easy whenever needed. One thing I’d like to mention is that Fifi is extremely busy almost every day of the week. If she doesn’t reply immediately or within the same day, don’t hesitate to send a polite follow-up message. Once you’re there, you’ll understand just how much she has on her plate. I would also suggest asking any questions you may have beforehand, as Fifi is always happy to answer them. Thank you, Fifi and family, for hosting me ☀️

We spent a wonderful week and a half with Heather and Phil at their lovely, tranquil home at Brandy Creek (near Airlie Beach). Heather is a botanical queen - she taught us lots of new gardening techniques and tricks. Her orchid collection is fantastic! Heather is also a great chef and we really enjoyed all her hearty homemade meals! Phil is a DIY wizard - we put together a shed during our time there from fully recycled materials. Special shout of to Phil for even DIY-ing us a new part for our rooftop tent which had fallen off during our travels! Heather and Phil took us to bowls one day and this was great fun - we need a bit more practice though! Phil also took us on a bike ride through the national park beside their home. In the rest of our spare time we loved making jigsaws in the house, doing some watercolour paintings, exploring the area and spending time with the chickens and ducks! Thanks again to Heather and Phil for their wonderful hospitality and we hope that the new ice cream machine has a long and happy life! 💛

Sophie and Marta are a wonderful dynamic duo! At just 19 years of age, they are incredibly mature, self-reliant and responsible. They helped me transform so many rooms in our home, including the games room, laundry, living room, bathrooms and sunroom — cleaning, moving furniture and redecorating with such care and enthusiasm. They gave our coffee machine a good service, gave the fridge a makeover, and enjoyed using the kitchen, which hummed with their creative cooking and baking. It has been an absolute pleasure hosting Sophie and Marta. Not only were they helpful and peaceful to have in our home, but we also shared hours and hours of Skip-Bo, along with some Rummikub and Skyjo. We loved hosting Sophie & Marta, and we highly recommend them!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Sarah was a wonderful volunteer, and we are very grateful for the time she spent with our family on the ranch. Even though her stay was short, she was a huge help in so many ways. She helped me a lot with the children, around the house, and even with my sourdough bread doughs. We also enjoyed doing yoga and working out together, which made her stay even more special. Sarah is kind, easygoing, respectful, and a pleasure to have around. We shared many fun moments together and truly enjoyed her company. Thank you, Sarah, for all your help and positive energy. We wish you many amazing adventures on your journey and hope that everything goes wonderfully for you. Hopefully our paths will cross again one day! Lots of love and best wishes from our family.

I spent over 6 weeks with Jacob and Francisca and would highly recommend this Workaway. They are incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming hosts with a clear vision for their land and care for their community. Their commitment to organic and sustainable practices is reflected in everything they do, and every task became an opportunity to learn something new. The work was varied, interesting, and always well explained. During my stay I harvested potatoes and tomatoes, planted garlic, shallots, alfalfa, and oats, prepared and cleaned garden beds, collected leaves, seaweed, wool, and manure to build soil fertility, mixed bokashi compost, repaired fences, chopped wood, cared for sheep, cleaned the sheep pen, transplanted native trees, helped build a new chicken coop, and worked in the greenhouse. I especially appreciated being able to see many projects through from start to finish. In addition to the work, what made the experience special was the peaceful environment, shared meals, conversations, and strong sense of community. Working alongside Jacob each day led to many memorable conversations between tasks. After work meals shared with Jacob and Francisca were always so pleasant, delicious home cooked food and fun conversation. I was also fortunate to take part in a few mingas with the neighbors, helping with potato harvests and other tasks, followed by shared meals, or asados, and plenty of chicha. Francisca’s family came to stay one weekend and they were equally welcoming and made me feel included despite my basic Spanish. The setting itself is beautiful: a peaceful corner of Lemuy with beaches, rolling hills, forest, and incredible sunsets. The accommodation was exceptionally comfortable—a beautiful home with a wood stove, kitchen, and everything I needed. Jacob and Francisca were always thoughtful hosts and made me feel at home throughout my stay. If you’re looking for meaningful work, a slower rhythm of life, good company, and an authentic experience of Chiloé, I highly recommend staying with Jacob and Francisca. I leave with a great deal of gratitude, many new skills, and fond memories of my time on the island and inspiration for the future.

My stay at Simon’s home was a truly great and very enriching experience. I spent one week there and from the very beginning I felt very welcomed and comfortable. It is a peaceful place, surrounded by nature, ideal for disconnecting and enjoying a few very pleasant days. Simon is a very kind, open, positive, happy and generous person who genuinely cares about making sure his guests feel good and at home. He was always attentive, offering help with transportation, involving me in his daily life, and sharing very interesting moments. I really enjoyed the conversations we had, as well as cooking together and preparing delicious meals. Simon is also a very good cook and makes absolutely delicious dinners. It was also very interesting to discover the local nocturnal wildlife with him, a very fascinating experience. During my stay I also spent time with his animals: I walked his dog Alan, who is very affectionate and cheerful, and I looked after the cat Kitty. I also helped with household tasks such as tidying up and taking care of the house, as well as doing some garden work like weeding. It was very nice to feel useful while also feeling accompanied and comfortable. Overall, it was a very complete week in a calm, welcoming and very positive environment. I am very grateful to Simon for this opportunity and his hospitality. Without a doubt, he is a kind, respectful, and very generous host. I highly recommend this experience 100%. It is an ideal place both to learn and to enjoy a relaxed and pleasant stay. I hope we meet again in the future, and if you ever come to Catalonia, I would be delighted to host you at my home.

We've stayed for 8 days at this wonderful place and miss it so much. We both fell in love with the atmosphere, the beautiful nature, Carhuaz, Valentina and Dionny herself! The work in the corn field is very easy and it was fun to learn about the process of growing, fertilizing and harvesting corn. It doesnt take long and after a delicious lunch from Dionny you are free to explore the region and eat the fantastic ice cream in Carhuaz. Alan has the best recomandations for hikes and everything else about what to do in the area. Dionny is the cutest and told us a lot about her life, the peruvian culture and even taught us some Quechua. We went to two lagunas, did horseback riding, spend a day in the sauna and went to Mateo (all in 8 days!). There were always a lot of other volunteers staying at Dionnys place, so you will always have someone to explore Carhuaz with or do one of the beautiful hikes. We are definitely coming back if we have the chance!! Muchas Gracias por todo Eltje and Samuel

Junko & Franck are an adorable and welcoming couple, you will have a good time in their garden/forest, close to nature, the room is very good and the kitchen makes you want to cook, near Midland, accessible by bus (every hour) but privileged the car. Quiet and peaceful place, you will garden and maintain the pool and spas as well as the common areas. If you come in winter the wood will occupy you but the fire in the evening and in the morning is super pleasant. Thanks to Junko for everything, I recommend you to make a detour here 🌳
