Ein großes Dankeschön an Steve und alle die großartigen anderen Gäste. Meine Zeit bei Steve und den Kindern verbrachte ich im Februar und März 2026. Steve ist ein seriöser, sehr großzügiger und meist ein einfühlsamer Gastgeber. Die beste Hilfe für einen Vater mit drei Kindern / Jugendlichen ist, sehr achtsam mit den Kindern umzugehen, obwohl es für nicht englisch Muttersprachler sehr schwer ist, Zugang zu den Kindern zu bekommen. Wenn du nicht bereit bist sehr viel Zeit in die Verbindung zu seinen Kindern zu investieren, solltest du woanders hin gehen. Du kannst das Gefühl bekommen, weit mehr als 5 Stunden täglich eingeplant zu sein. Willst du Sport machen, biete es auch den Kindern an, willst du Musizieren biete es auch den Kindern an. Willst du renovieren kannst du es hier. Willst du Autos reparieren, kannst du es hier machen. Willst du in deiner Freizeit nicht zum Strand sondern lesen, es gibt einen großen Fundus an Büchern im Haus. Du wirst ausreichend Nahrungsmittel, viele Küchenmaschinen, Waschmaschine und Trockner vorfinden. Es existieren straffe Zeitpläne, die einerseits sehr viel Priorität haben und andererseits gab es oft spontan Änderungen durch ihn selbst, was verwirrend sein kann. Du wirst erfahren, dass es eine Zeitplanung im Minutentakt gibt, die den Mahlzeiten einen seltsamen Stressfaktor anheftet. Die Regeln im Haus sollen erst einmal respektiert werden, du wirst sie nicht von Anfang an verstehen. Es wird dich weit mehr als 5 Stunden am Tag kosten, hier zu leben. Willst du frisches gutes Essen, solltest du täglich extra Zeit einplanen, um dieses zuzubereiten. Du kannst das Gefühl haben, für dich selbst nicht genug Zeit zu haben. Steve ist sehr engagiert und versucht fast täglich seine Gäste zu sicheren Stränden zu begleiten. Er besitzt genügend eigene Surfbretter, du wirst keines mieten müssen. Das ist ein sehr großer Vorteil. Er stellt dir fast täglich eine große Menge an Texten, links und websites zur Verfügung, die deine Freizeit ausfüllen können. Teils waren Steves Aussagen widersprüchlich und differieren von Tag zu Tag. Oft kam es zu ermüdenden Monolagen bei der Tagesplanung und dadurch kann möglicherweise deine Meinung und Absicht verändert werden. Steves Denkweise liegt weit über dem Horizont der meisten Menschen die hier zusammenkommen und das kann zu Mißverständnissen führen. Für mental starke junge Menschen ist es aber auch eine große Chance. Stelle ihm die richtigen Fragen und du kannst an seinem großen Erfahrungsschatz und Wissen teilhaben. Es gibt zugleich die Möglichkeit für nicht so starke Charaktere, in den Einfluss von seinen Gedanken zu kommen und das sind dann nicht mehr deine eigenen Gedanken. Steve denkt wie ein Schachspieler immer mehrere Züge voraus, wer das nicht gewöhnt ist, kann das leicht als übergriffig empfinden. Das Haus ist groß, mit 14 Bewohnern war meiner Meinung nach ein Höchstmaß erreicht. Das Haus ist hellhörig und erfordert viel Rücksichtnahme. Die Lage ist wirklich sehr isoliert und für Bewegung liebende Menschen eher untypisch. Es ist eben nicht einfach möglich spazieren zu gehen oder Rad zu fahren. Du kannst nicht einfach rausgehen und einen Kaffee trinken gehen oder Menschen treffen. Steve gibt im Vorfeld so viele gute detaillierte Informationen, lest sorgfältig diese umfassenden Informationen, bevor ihr eure Entscheidung trefft. Willst du flexibel sein, solltest du über ein Mietauto verfügen.

I had the pleasure of hosting this wonderful couple, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are mature, responsible, and genuinely willing to help—everything a Workaway host could hope for. They approached every task with competence and care, whether working on artistic projects or small building jobs. Always smiling and positive, they brought a lovely energy to the house and were truly a pleasure to have around. I would warmly recommend them to any host looking for reliable, capable, and kind hearted spirits!

I had a very good time doing workaway with this lovely family! The property is beautiful, I was able to park my van at a peaceful and quiet spot with an amazing view. Many times I walked with my dog to the river to cool down after work. The work is very doable, fun and diverse. I helped with picking the olives (hard, but fun and rewarding work!), cooking, building a fence for the chickens (who'd always found their way out), gardening and building a rocket mass stove. Oh, and I also loved to pick all the basil on my last day, what a bummer that I wasn't there to make and try the fresh pesto with it...! I mostly worked a couple of hours in the morning and a little bit after lunch. But Laurens and Evelien are very relaxed about the working schedule. You can always talk about what schedule or jobs you prefer :) The place is very alive, with animals but also with people: other lovely volunteers, the (very cute) kids of the little school and friendly teachers and parents walking around.It's never boring! Almost everyday we had a great lunch together and sometimes also dinner. I was always free to take whatever I needed from the kitchen and the garden which is very nice :) Thanks guys🙏😊 we will meet again for sure!

Mihai was a very skilled and responsable guest with our family for about two months in 2025. He's polite, easy to communicate with and very handy around the house. We moved snow, built a brick wall, did renovation and garden work. We also completed the insulation of the basement in our 100 year old house with good help from Mihai. He's also very good with bikes and fixed up some of our bikes and trailers so they are as good as new. If you get a request it's highly adviced to accept!!

Ryan should eagerness to help and assist from the moment he arrived. He was flexible in his working chores and also timings. He has very relaxed and friendly Style but at the same time was capable of assisting with getting significant projects ticked off the list. He was also great fun with the children and they very much enjoyed his company. He will be welcome back here anytime he chooses and any host would be lucky to have him and his great sense of humour!

Maik wasn't just an amazing host; he's also one of the nicest, most optimistic, and ethusiastic people I've ever met. Considerate, funny, down-to-earth, relaxed, generous. Workaway is lucky to have people like this on the site. He's the type of host that makes you want to become one yourself some day so you can repay this type of experience. He's also a great teacher, patient, easy-going, affable, and engaging, but he's also open to new ideas and has zero pretensions or arrogance. Two weeks flew by at his place. A genuinely great guy, and I eagerly await that tattoo he promised he'd get, because a deal is a deal. If you're lucky enough to stay with Maik, you're gonna have a great time and a true cultural exchange.

Athina amd Giorgos are very nice people, they have a very beautiful farm full of vines, olives, wild flowers and there is always something to do. They have a very beautiful horse. They are very open to listen and share which was interesting and very much welcomed.

This was my first workaway and experience in Canada ! I spoke with Phill and Hope on the phone before I left the UK and they helped me transition into Canadian life. Upon arriving on the island the first week I was racking leaves that had fallen in the winter months and canoeing on lake joseph . Getting very knowledgeable with the local Home Hardware store as I joined Phil on the almost daily trips of the island. My second week was very different, two other workaway people joined giving me people to talk to. Only then did I get a bit more of the Canadian lumberjack experience, when not scrapping paint. Loon island is beautiful reminding me a lot of home exploring every crook and crevices, when not making friends with the local chipmunks. Mostly importantly they were amazingly accommodating for my dietary requirements, the food was lovely :)

I spent one week at Francisco’s place and really enjoyed my time there ☀️☺️ Francisco is very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Communication was always easy, and even though he lives in Porto, he was always available when needed. The place itself is quite rustic, but that’s also part of its charm ✨ It has a lot of potential and is surrounded by nature, making it a peaceful place to stay. The large garden is beautiful, and I enjoyed the calm atmosphere. At the same time, Porto is only about 30 minutes away, so it’s easy to combine countryside life with visits to the city 🌻 One thing to be aware of is that there is currently no Wi-Fi in the house. For me, this wasn’t a major issue during my short stay. For longer stays, however, it could be something to consider, although it may be improved in the future. Thank you, Francisco, for the experience and your hospitality. I had a great week and would happily recommend this Workaway to anyone who enjoys nature, a simple lifestyle, and a peaceful environment close to Porto 🤗

Here's a more natural, personal, and detailed version: This was my second Workaway experience, and I can genuinely say it was one of those experiences that reminds you why you signed up for Workaway in the first place. When people ask me how it was, I honestly don't know where to start because it had a little bit of everything. Great conversations, meaningful projects, good food, beautiful surroundings, cultural exchange, and plenty of memorable moments in between. Looking back, it feels less like a stay and more like a chapter of life that I'll remember for a long time. Alex was kind, welcoming, and helpful from day one. What I appreciated most was his patience. There were tasks and projects that were completely new to me, but he never made me feel inexperienced or out of place. Instead, he took the time to explain things properly, answer questions, and teach me along the way. That made the experience not only enjoyable but also genuinely educational. The property itself is beautiful and creates the perfect environment to both work and relax. The projects were interesting and gave me the opportunity to learn new skills while contributing something meaningful. At the same time, there was always room to enjoy life outside of work. Some of my favorite memories are actually the simple ones. Taking a dip in the river after a productive day, cooking meals together, going for walks, sitting down for long conversations, sharing stories, and learning about each other's cultures. Those are the moments that make Workaway special, and there were plenty of them here. As someone traveling from a completely different part of the world, I really enjoyed the cultural exchange. I learned a lot about local traditions, daily life, ways of thinking, and the culture in general. At the same time, I had the chance to share stories and experiences from my own background. Those exchanges often became some of the most interesting parts of the day. One thing I can say with confidence is that there was never a dull moment. Whether we were working on a project, discussing ideas, exploring the area, preparing food, or simply talking about life, there was always something happening. The atmosphere was relaxed, friendly, and welcoming throughout my stay. When I arrived, I was hoping for a good Workaway experience. When I left, I felt like I was taking home much more than that. I left with new experiences, new knowledge, great memories, and a deeper appreciation for the value of meeting people from different backgrounds. I am grateful for the opportunity to have stayed with Alex and would happily recommend him as a host to anyone considering a Workaway. If you are looking for a place where you can learn, contribute, enjoy meaningful conversations, experience cultural exchange, and create lasting memories, you will be in good hands here. Joella has an incredible grounding energy, which was such a gift while helping care for our son. She encouraged him when he doubted his abilities and helped calm him when he was angry or riding an emotional rollercoaster. Her patience, kindness, and natural way with children made a real difference. She also brought a beautiful rhythm into our home through her singing and guitar playing, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. Joella is adventurous, open-minded, and always up for new experiences. She is very polite, proactive, and always willing to help without hesitation. We truly enjoyed having her with us and would love for her to come back. Our door will always be open to her whenever she needs us.

Aine and I got along super well! she is a kind and caring woman. The work was domestic and fairly simple. We kept to a daily schedule and the work was 3.5 hours each day (as I was there one week) - but she was also flexible if I wanted to do more on certain days. Or even come and go to different cities. Aine communicates effectively and directly which I greatly appreciated. The work awayer being flexible/patient and attentive to her need for structure would also be a plus to the relationship. If you enjoy the city life this location is wonderful! very close to various attractions and shops which she has much knowledge to share. the apartment was lovely, however the one comment I have is that there was no fridge and for those who may be concerned about food borne illnesses this made eating a bit more complicated. I cooked for myself just about every meal, but food was provided - a little limited (very healthy) based on her dietary needs but sustaining and satisfying. overall a very positive experience

My stay with Eddie and Gosia (and Zosia and Michalina) as well as the many cats and dogs, and of course the goats, was a beautiful experience. I was welcomed into their gorgeous home with open arms, and I truly felt as though I was another daughter in the family. My work mostly consisted of herding the goats in a beautiful pasture, which allowed ample time for introspection and deep thought, or podcasts and music; I engaged in both depending on the day. The room and bathroom I stayed in were perfect, and I slept so soundly in the quiet, waking up to the sound of birds chirping. I cannot speak highly enough about my experience, only wishing I had been able to stay longer than one week.

Siamo stati due settimane a Maggio, insieme al nostro cane Polaco, ci siamo trovati veramente bene e ci hanno fatto sentire come a casa nostra. Lucia, Jakob, Leon, Theo e Vali sono una bellissima famiglia, molto ospitali, attenti, e aperti allo scambio di esperienze o idee, ed è stato incredibile aiutarli nella costruzione della loro casa, nelle faccende della fattoria, e della casa. Siamo andati a pedalare con Leon, abbiamo munto pecore per la prima volta, e ci hanno anche accompagnato a mangiare cibo tipico argentino. Ci sarebbe piaciuto rimanere più tempo, ma avevamo altri piani, e ci piacerebbe tornare un giorno. Grazie per l'esperienza, è stato molto divertente, alla prossima 🙌🏽🤍✨

I stayed with Olaf, Amelia and Kilian, as well as their little kitten, for more than three weeks, and it was a very nice experience. The main work I did was focused on the garden. We basically created a vegetable garden from scratch. In addition to that, we start to built a traditional Swedish-style fence and prepared the area for a future pizza space, including setting up seating corners and flower boxes. Overall, the work was quite intensive and physically challenging, but it was always enjoyable to work alongside Olaf :) I stayed in a very cozy guesthouse and was able to use the bathroom in the main house since the weather was quite cool for most of the stay. On warmer days, I also had the option to shower outside, which was a nice experience. Olaf and Amelia were very kind and welcoming, and we also shared some nice moments together outside of work, such as bouldering, cycling trips, and time by the lake. Olaf even helped me with converting and setting up my van, which I really appreciated. Overall, it was a great stay and a valuable experience. I would definitely recommend it and I hope to visit them again in the future:)

I had such a lovely experience with Lora. I helped her film some videos to promote her herbal blends and it was an incredibly fun and collaborative creative process. We ate lots of traditional Bulgarian meals thanks to her partner Yuli, who is also incredibly kind. And playing with Freya, their beautiful baby girl, made my stay even more special. I'm happy to say that I'll be back very soon 😊

I spent 10 days at Camilla’s and Olaf’s place. I enjoyed it very much! They are so kind, friendly and hospitable. I felt myself like at home. In general I worked alone, 4 hours a day. Camilla said, how can I help, but she didn’t say, when should I help. I could allocate my time. My tasks were for instance cleaning, weeding, curtain washing. I usually cooked together with Camilla and we ate lunch together and talked a lot. Their pets are lovely. Olaf’s mother lives on the first floor. I drank my coffe every morning with her, she was also very very kind. I could sail with them at weekend, it was wonderful. Bürmoos is a very calm and nice place. I walked and rode a bicycle. (They lent me a bicycle.) I was further in Salzburg three times, it was also very beautiful. It’s easily avaiable. I could take part a big hospitality at the neighboors, it was a special experience. I remember this 10 days very happily. Thank you!

We truly enjoyed your beautiful forest garden and the lovely tent that you had made so cozy and welcoming for us. It was both fascinating and inspiring to experience your life at the campsite and to learn about your homeschooling journey. Everything—from emptying the compost toilet to swimming in the pool and planting tomatoes in the sunshine—was an experience in itself. Your openness and relaxed way of living enriched our lives, and we are deeply grateful for it. I stayed with Melissa, Elicia, Michael and Niklas for two weeks, and it was truly a wonderful experience. They are incredibly kind, sociable, open-minded and welcoming people who immediately make you feel included. I shared this experience with another Workawayer, and we stayed together in a cozy guest house. We quickly built a great friendship, which made the experience even more special. Life in the community was very enjoyable. We spent a lot of time together, especially during lunches and dinners, sharing meals and conversations with everyone. The work included making wood chips, chopping firewood, cleaning wooden decks, watering the garden, and other seasonal tasks. Some days were more physically demanding than others, but we always had complete freedom to organize our workday, take breaks when needed, and work at our own pace. Everyone was incredibly supportive, helpful, and always ready to lend a hand whenever necessary. During our free time, we enjoyed the sauna, swimming in the lake, walking through the forest, exploring island life, and visiting nearby islands. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful and offer the perfect balance between nature, community, and relaxation. My dog Luna was also incredibly welcome from day one. Everyone was always happy to give her attention and cuddles, and she had the best time running around freely and playing with the other dogs. Seeing how comfortable and happy she was made the experience even more enjoyable for me. What made this place truly special was the feeling of belonging. After only two weeks, I genuinely felt like part of the community. It didn't feel like I was staying with hosts—it felt like being surrounded by lifelong friends. Leaving was much harder than I expected, and if I could have stayed longer, I absolutely would have. Thank you for everything. I will definitely be back soon. ❤️
