During the second week, it rained a lot so we couldn’t do much work, and therefore had to work a bit more the week after to balance it out, but again, nothing unmanageable.
Regarding the relations to the host, they left me free to have my privacy and my alone times, which I really appreciated, but we had a lot of fun talking about travels, movies and the folks of the islands. I also got introduced to a lot of people along the way, which is a great way to expand your social boundaries. The meals are copious and very well-balanced, they are extremely generous regarding that aspect, and you will never have to complain about comfort if you go there.
Regarding the free time, they were open to let me explore here and there at my own pace, as well as taking me on day trips to discover new parts of the islands when the occasions presented themselves. I also got to do a 4-days road trip by myself and they had no problem with it, which was a great token of trust. The place in itself is a lonesome village in the mountains, extremely quiet and peaceful. If you like that way of life, you’ll like it there.
In the end, I highly recommend going there for a bit, preferably with your own car or a driver’s licence so you don’t have to rely on the scarce public transportation. It’s garden work and it’s peaceful, don’t be afraid of spiders and insects and you’ll have an amazing time.Dejado por el anfitrión para el workawayer (Tom)

I stayed three weeks at Bernard and Michel´s house nearby the village of Vico. My intention with this review is to be as honest and objective as possible and list my positive as well as my negative experiences.
The house sits on a hill, 15 minutes walking distance from Vico. The village has a supermarket and a few restaurants and a little
… read more square. It is an enchanting, however sleepy village surrounded by mountains, it could easily be the setting of a Disney fairy tale.
If you´re looking for nightlife though, you´re gonna be disappointed.
Their house is extraordinary beautiful (especially the garden), quiet and peaceful. There is a river which you can reach via a 20 minutes bicycle ride. To get back you need to go upwards which was quite strenuous and took about 30 minutes. The sea is located 15 km from Vico but it was not difficult to hitch hike there, you can easily do that any afternoon. Bernard and Michel are usually busy in the afternoons so I spent most of my free time discovering the surroundings by myself. A few nights we watched movies together.
The house of Bernard and Michel is elegant and the room where I stayed is clean, quiet and comfortable. The garden is really amazing, and so are the surroundings. It´s definitely a luxury to be able to have breakfast while looking over the garden and the mountains. They run an upscale Bed and Breakfast so it´s important to keep the place clean and tidy. Michel is an awesome cook and the meals are delicious and abundant. He wants full control over the kitchen which means that my access to the kitchen was very limited. However, he didn´t mind preparing a coffee on my request and was always very hospitable.
My working hours were between 7-12 Monday to Friday , so I had the afternoons, weekends and evenings free to to do other things. The greater part of my job was in the garden with Bernard. He was very helpful and made sure to take his time to explain my duties thoroughly. Since I am very interested in learning more about permaculture I also appreciated that he was willing to share his experiences in that area. I am also happy that he took his time to tell me about Corsican politics and history.
My tasks included:
Preparing compost and mulch
Digging an underground tunnel for water pipes
Weeding
General cleaning in the garden
Cleaning a storage room
The work is physical which I didn´t mind at all. During my stay, June/July 2016, there were not a lot of edible fruits or vegetables in the garden, and the “permaculture work” was focused on improving the fertility of the soil.
Michel was sometimes a bit moody during the work and I found some of his comments discouraging. He told me things like: “You work too slow”, or “you´re not doing a good job”. In my opinion Workaway Info is about learning as well as contributing. I didn´t have a lot of previous experience in gardening before, which I was totally honest about, and I would have appreciated more constructive criticism in order to learn.
Neither did I appreciate Michel´s racist remarks about the black players of the French football team during a game we watched on their television.
Both Michel and Bernard were really helpful when it came to correcting my French and they were generally patient when I did not understand or could not express myself.
In conclusion it was a good experience, however with room for improvement.
Thanks and good luck in the future!

First of all, one thing must be said: Bernard and Michel, apart from being very talented in what they do, they are time wizards. That is the only explanation for my one month stay with them seem like a one week or a three days stay.
I worked in the phase of cleaning the area that is becoming their organic garden, what included mainly removing all
… read more the roots, and placing wood blocks and other materials in order to save space and protect from the conditions of the weather. In general, very physical work.
Even though it was a hard part, it was much easier being so kindly served by cups of coffee every now and then, and some dry fruits and other candies. And when we were finished for the day, we still had the whole afternoon to enjoy the fantastic surroundings with amazing days of sun.
Both these incredible guys know a lot of spots to enjoy the best things Corsica can offer, and they took me to explore the place in a lot of mountain walks, afternoons in the beach, or even only relaxing moments chatting and relaxing by the mountains. The time spent with them is some time well spent.
Michel is the king of the kitchen, and well deserve the crown. You will know what I am talking about if you have the pleasure to taste his works of art called dishes. Bernard is a master of music, with some growing knowledge of plants and permaculture, about to apply it in this which I am sure it is going to be a really nice organic garden.
I enjoyed all the time spent sharing some thoughts of life, interesting stories, and learning french (yes, they have a lot of patience to help you with the language, and my skills while I was there were improved in a way I could not imagine at all).
I am deeply grateful for all the help, all the trust, and all the genuine exchange in the memorable month I spent with you, Bernard and Michel. A big hug and see you one of these days.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
