Hello! We’re Liz and Julian and we moved from Minnesota to Costa Rica’s Nicoya peninsula a year ago with our three sons River, Taoh and Louix. We are slowly building our home and putting down roots in this small town called Cabuya bordering one of Costa Rica’s most remote nature reserves Cabo Blanco. Our home is also very close to one of the most popular surfing beach towns in Costa Rica called Santa Teresa. There’s so much to discover here!
We are hoping to host an educator/nanny looking to explore this beautiful country, learn Spanish, help feed the chickens and run daily life at our home. We’re specifically looking for an educator for our 5 and 4 year old sons as well as someone who can blend education with exploration of all the beauty there is here.
We have a separate casita on our property with its own bathroom and kitchen, a small pool and outside area to relax for you!

We are an American-French family who have embraced life in Costa Rica and love sharing that experience with others. My husband Julian is French, and our home reflects a wonderful blend of cultures — American, French, and Costa Rican — that makes for a rich and lively environment.
You’ll become part of daily life in a small, tight-knit coastal community where locals and expats mix naturally. We also run a water bottling business here, so there’s an opportunity to see and learn about entrepreneurship in a developing country and what it really takes to build something from the ground up in a place like Costa Rica.
We’re happy to share what we’ve learned about living between cultures, running a business abroad, and embracing the Pura Vida lifestyle. In return, we genuinely hope to learn from you — your background, your perspective, and what brought you to this corner of the world. We believe that exchange of ideas and cultures is one of the greatest gifts of this kind of experience.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and nurturing educator to tutor our 4 and 5 year old children in reading, writing, and math. Ideally, we would love someone who plays piano or guitar and can incorporate daily music lessons into their time with the kids. In addition to tutoring, we would also ask that our helper be in an au pair capacity, assisting with the children’s daily care and routine.
In exchange, you’ll enjoy life in beautiful Cabuya, Costa Rica — a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path coastal community surrounded by nature, wildlife, and the warm Pura Vida lifestyle. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about being with young children and craves an authentic Costa Rican experience.

We offer a private one-bedroom casita with everything you need to feel at home. The space includes a full kitchen, private bathroom, and air conditioning to keep you comfortable in the tropical heat. Outside you’ll enjoy your own private deck and seating area, perfect for relaxing after a day with the kids, as well as access to a small pool.
This is your own space — private, comfortable, and just steps from our home and the natural beauty of Cabuya.
Meals are not included, but with your own kitchen you’ll have full flexibility to cook for yourself. We’re also happy to share meals together as a family from time to time.

We will provide a weekly food stipend of $70 per week in colones. We have a local supermarket within walking distance and we can drive the workaway to the larger shopping market once per week. We will also provide the basics such as cooking oil, rice, and spices.

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

Cabuya is a small, peaceful village and most daily essentials are within walking distance — the beach, a grocery store, and a few local restaurants are all easily reachable on foot. That said, if you want to explore the wider Nicoya Peninsula — Santa Teresa, Montezuma, and beyond — you’ll want your own transportation. We strongly recommend planning to rent an ATV or car for your stay, as these destinations require navigating unpaved roads that aren’t walkable.
We are happy to offer rides when we can, but we don’t want you to feel dependent on us for getting around. A valid driver’s license is required, as we will occasionally ask you to help with school pickups and local errands.
If you love nature, the beach, and a slower pace of life, you’ll feel right at home here. Cabuya is the kind of place that draws people who are looking for something real — and we think that’s exactly the type of person we’re hoping to find.

We have Starlink internet at the property, so connectivity is not an issue unless there is a power outage which happens from time to time. That said, we want to be clear that this role requires full presence and commitment during working hours. Our children and the responsibilities of this position come first — any personal projects or remote work should remain secondary and never interfere with your duties.
