Set over 10 hectares close to the Spanish border, the farm possesses an amazing 360 degree vista. To the west is Portugal’s highest mountain range, Serra da Estrela, which provides the backdrop to what are frequently spectacular sunsets. To the east the sun rises over the Spanish border hills and the castle and village of Monsanto. To the north close by is the village of Penamacor, with cafes, restaurants, shops and banks.
For many years the farm has sat unused and consequently much of the work of the next year focuses on regenerating the land through caring for the existing trees and vines, as well as renovating buildings, so we can accommodate greater numbers of interested individuals and/or groups.
Whilst we are in the initial stages of the project, the farm itself appears previously well cared for, with mature and productive vines, fruit trees, and both ancient and more recently planted olive trees.
We want to create environments and spaces in which events such as film, music, art festivals can be held, as well as more intimate spaces for solo practitioners and adepts.
Activities include:
Natural wine making (1.25 hectare vineyard)
Pruning, maintaining and harvesting vines
Pruning, maintaining and harvesting olive trees (300+)
Land regeneration through tree planting
Renovation of farm buildings into community, living and art spaces
Permaculture design of farm
Caring for large cork oaks
Experimental archaeology projects (first phase of stone circle created this summer in conjunction with UCL academic)

Visitors to the farm will learn to live with a small but enthusiastic and ambition group of people learning many new skills and adapting to a very different way of life. Equally, we bring many skills from our previous roles that maybe of interest. Two languages are spoken fluently on the farm (English and French).
Help will be varied across the farm.
Our immediate focus will be upon:-
Tree pruning.
Vine care.
Renovating buildings to create a community space
Workers will need to be fit and able to work at least five hours a day, five days per week.

In return we can offer peaceful camping facilities, with plumbed-in hot water shower and indoor toilet.
Tents, or a heated caravan in the colder months are provided as accommodation. Feel free to bring your own tent or camper van if you wish.
We provide a communal lunch; even though we often eat meat ourselves, we will be more than happy to cook vegetarian or vegan food for communal meals, depending on the needs of the helpers staying at the time. We provide cooking facilities (stove, kettle, fridge) as well as ingredients for you to cook your own meals in the mornings and evenings.
The closest large railway stations to the farm are in Castelo Branco and Guarda.
