🫒 Olive Harvest Volunteers Welcome! (November 14–22, 2026) 🫒

We are looking for physically fit, energetic, and open-minded volunteers for our upcoming olive harvest in Bahçe, Osmaniye, Türkiye! Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple, or coming with a group of friends, you are all very welcome to join our seasonal family.

This will be our 4th annual volunteer olive harvest, and over the years, it has turned into much more than just field work—it is a warm, authentic, and unforgettable cultural experience. You will be working alongside an amazing team of international volunteers from all over the world. Two years ago, our team harvested around 400 kg of olives together while building great friendships, sharing stories, and laughing a lot.

Food is a huge part of this journey, so you can look forward to enjoying delicious, traditional homemade meals every single day. Even though not every member of our extended local family speaks fluent English, hospitality is our universal language. We take extra care of our volunteers to ensure everyone feels comfortable, warm, and right at home throughout their stay.

The harvest involves about 5 hours of active field work per day, but the great group energy makes the work feel easy and fun. After finishing in the fields, our evenings are filled with games, bonfires, music, dancing, and cozy chats under the stars.

Since we host a lively group of around 6 to 8 volunteers, accommodation is cozy and shared, creating a true community atmosphere. Please note that we are a non-smoking and alcohol-free family, and we strictly do not allow smoking or alcohol anywhere on our property.

Meals and Food Arrangement

We provide three meals a day in exchange for up to 25 hours of help per week, with two full days off, in line with Workaway's guidelines.

Our meals consist of freshly prepared, traditional Turkish home-cooked dishes made with seasonal ingredients. We love sharing our local cuisine and believe that mealtimes are an important part of the cultural exchange. As a family, we enjoy eating together with our volunteers whenever possible, as we see shared meals as a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other and exchange cultures.

If you have different food preferences, dietary requirements, or follow a special diet, please let us know in advance. We will happily provide the ingredients you need, and you are welcome to prepare your own meals in our kitchen whenever you prefer.

We take care of preparing the meals. We simply ask everyone to wash their own dishes after eating and help keep the kitchen and dining area clean and tidy. These are considered part of living together respectfully in a shared home and are not included as part of your volunteering hours.

Whether we share a meal together or you choose to cook for yourself, we want you to feel comfortable, well-fed, and at home during your stay.

By joining us, you will experience authentic rural Turkish life firsthand, far beyond the typical tourist trails. You will learn traditional olive harvesting and oil production techniques, taste delicious homemade local cuisine, and discover the deep-rooted hospitality of southern Türkiye. Living and working together with our family and an international team of volunteers creates a rich environment for language practice, story-sharing, and cultural discovery. Whether we are sharing coffee, gathering around a evening bonfire, or playing music together, you will leave with a genuine understanding of local customs and lifelong friendships.

Ayuda

As a volunteer, your main responsibility will be hands-on field work during the olive harvest. This includes placing nets under the trees, harvesting olives using traditional and manual methods, gathering them, and sorting the harvest for processing. Beyond the field, we also appreciate a spirit of teamwork where everyone lends a hand with light daily chores, such as helping set or clear the table during meal times and keeping our shared spaces cozy and tidy. We ask for around 5 hours of active physical work per day with flexible timing depending on the weather, so a good level of fitness, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work outdoors are all you need!

Volunteers will stay onsite of the harvest in a modest, cozy village house featuring a shared room for volunteers, a spacious kitchen perfect for preparing meals , a bathroom, two toilets (one flush toilet and one squat toilet), and a charming balcony to unwind and enjoy the surrounding rural views. As living spaces are shared, we kindly ask all volunteers to keep their sleeping areas clean, tidy, and well-maintained out of respect for one another. The host family will also be staying in the house. They will sleep in a separate area of the kitchen where there are beds.

After already learning turkish on my earlier workawayer experience in Istanbul, with Sultan and Aykut I got to deepen my understanding about the turkish culture, society and especially the unwritten social rules and mindset of the people. They had both stayed in different western countries so they had very good insights and reflections on the cultural and societal differences. This way they could address and explain to me differences that I hadn’t eaven thought about.

I felt at ease in their home and their company since my first day there. The whole family treated me with warmth and respect. Zehra and Zeynep were both very sweet. When I traveled away for a couple of days to explore some new cities in Turkey it would be especially heart warming to come back home because the girls would run to the door and hug me and be head over the heels that I’m back.

I enjoyned the warm and relaxed everyday life in Sultan and Aykuts home but was very happy to also get to experience olive harvest at their mountain cabin! We drove up there for a weekend and I got to collect olives from the trees and bring them to an olive oil factory for the first time in my life. I also got to take with me home a freshly made olive oil from my own handpicked olives. How cool is that for a city girl from Finland!

Osmaniye felt like a rather small city and for that reason as a quite calm and safe place. In general I tried to be home or at my hotel before 11 pm in every city I visited because it’s better to be safe than sorry. While staying in Osmaniye I traveled to Adana, Mersin, Tarsus and Gaziantep. It was easy to take a long distance bus from Osmaniye bus station to different cities in the area.

Mersin was at the seaside and there was a beautiful coast line and a huge mosque that I visited. In Tarsus there are many historically interesting places especially tied to christianity. I especially liked Gaziantep with it’s narrow streets and cute small shops in the old city center. All of these smaller cities felt really safe to be in.

Adana was the only city where I felt a bit unsafe but sticking to busy areas where there are people and lights in the evening I felt fine. In every city that I visited in Turkey I found people to be very helpful and friendly! If I asked someone which bus to take to a certain place people wouldn’t be happy just appointing me to the right bus. They would also make sure to talk to the bus driver and tell him that “this is a foreigner and you need to make sure that she arrives in this place and tell her where to go out”. In Turkey I enjoy most of all the people with their warm and welcoming attitude. And it goes without saying that the food is AMAZING.

I can definitely recommend a stay with this family! They were so wonderful people that my stay of less than 3 weeks was way too short! That’s why I made a holy promise (especially to the girls) that I will come back 😊❤️

They were not only our first volunteers from Africa, … read more but also our first mother-daughter duo — and from the moment they arrived, they brought warm energy, kindness, and a beautiful spirit into our home. Since we were their very first hosts, we also felt very lucky and honored to be part of the beginning of their Workaway journey.

They surprised us with wonderful traditional gifts and food from Togo — and even coins for my collection! As our first volunteers from Africa, everything they shared about their culture and life was fascinating and eye-opening for us. They even visited my school and Zehra’s school, where they gave an amazing presentation about Togo and showed traditional clothes they had brought with them. The students were truly captivated and inspired by their stories and the beautiful outfits.

Marion is an exceptional psychologist and a truly caring person. She quickly became part of our family, treating our home as if it were her own. She helped in so many ways — with housework, hosting guests, preparing food for the freezer, and countless other things I can’t even list. I can never thank her enough for all her support. She did everything with such sincerity and dedication, just like a sister would.

She has such a rich life story, and every conversation with her was inspiring. During stressful times, she always knew how to calm me down — proof once again that she is truly talented in her profession.

Maëlya is a kind, polite, and easygoing teenager who got along wonderfully with my daughters and their friends. Together they laughed, played, and shared beautiful moments. She is also very talented at drawing and left us a lovely sketch as a memory — something we will always treasure.

Marion even made a birthday cake for Aykut and picked a perfect gift for him! Throughout their 45-day stay, they were incredibly respectful of our home, helped with everything, and brought so much positivity to our daily life. Marion cooked delicious meals (we’ll never forget her cake!) and braided the girls’ hair beautifully.

We are so grateful for the love, patience, and joy they brought to our family. They arrived as volunteers, but they left as dear family friends. We’ll be following their world tour with admiration and can only say that the hosts who welcome this amazing mother and daughter are very lucky — they are hard-working, thoughtful, and full of light.

Thank you again, Marion and Maëlya, for everything you shared with us. May your journey be filled with kind people and unforgettable experiences.

How can I describe the wonderful stay we had with our family in Osmanye?!
I am travelling with my 13-year-old daughter for a year to discover the world, and Workaway seemed like a good option for sharing the daily life of a family.
After a long night journey from Istanbul in a very comfortable bus, Sultan welcomed us... like a friend we hadn't … read more seen in a long time!
We really felt like members of the family with Sultan and Aykut, Zeirah and Zeinep.
Osmaniye is a quiet and safe city where you can walk around peacefully even in the evening and eat the best ice cream in the world. A few words in Turkish are always welcome, but we found several people to chat with in English (good job English Odjiam). As a woman travelling with a teenage daughter, I never felt uncomfortable.

For our work, it really felt like being part of the family, walking Zeinep to school and picking her up, keeping the house clean, hanging out the washing and folding it. There is a great robot vacuum cleaner that is very talkative. We checked that the homework had been done, even we don't speak Turkish google lens helps.
We also went to Sultan and Zeirah's schools to introduce ourselves and talk a little about our trip.

Above all, we shared moments as a family, preparing meals (there is only one chef in the kitchen), playing Uno (my turn?), braiding hair, and having extraordinary experiences meeting fascinating people who helped us discover Osmaniye and the surrounding area, Turkish culture and its invaluable generosity.

We attended two henna nights and a wedding, went to Adana and ate the best kebab in the world, had a picnic by the river in the mountains with friends (beware, a picnic with Turkish mothers is not just a simple sandwich, it's a whole logistics operation, including a samovar), visited the fairy tale park and attended a classical music concert...

And all these thoughtful gestures made this trip a precious moment of humanity and kindness.
The chicken soup when I was ill, sharing life stories, chatting and laughing while preparing tomatoes or boreks...

A big thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to be part of your family, for explaining your worldview, for letting us experience Workaway and online school for Maelya, for sharing laughter and always making sure we understood each other.

A few words about our fantastic stay in Cappadocia. On Friday evening, we took the night bus direct from Osmaniye to Nevşehir, then another small bus on Saturday morning to reach Göreme. We were lucky enough to stay in Urgup with a very friendly couchsurfer. The stay was sublime; the region is really worth the trip. I recommend preparing well and booking in advance. Then we returned to Osmaniye by direct bus at the end of the day. We came back with stars in our eyes.

In a nutshell, if you want to live at the pace of a lively, friendly and open-minded family in a quiet town surrounded by mountains and forests, this is the perfect workaway opportunity.

It was my first workaway experience and that was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I stayed one month and half month there and the time we shared was so lovely.

Sultan and Aykut are so nice and kind, Sultan, the boss of family, she works as a English teacher. She is so kind and nice. She always asked me my stay there was going … read more well or not, so you can easily rely on her if you have any problems during your stay. She loves chatting and she has understanding for not only Turkish cultures but also foreign cultures. I talked about many things with her, like history, gender, and education etc. All of the discussion with her was full of something new and good experience. She also took me to the school that she is working. I attended a class and had a presentation about my country. The reaction from kids was so nice and we enjoyed that moment.
Aykut, the handsome husband of Sultan. He is nice and full of humor. The jokes he said made me laugh every time. He is also a great chef, so you can have fresh and nice Turkish dishes everyday. If you love cooking, you can have nice conversation about cooking with him. He has understanding and interest about Japanese dishes, he asked me some questions and he also taught me many things about Turkish cuisine. I was surprised by how much knowledge he has for Japanese cuisine.
Their girls, Zehra and Zeynep, they are full of energy and so adorable. They have good personalites, they’re not shy girls so I didn’t need a lot of time to get along with girls. We spent time to play chess, board games and playing cards. Zeynep can play chess and she is good at the game. Zehra, she can speak little English and she always tried to express her emotions in English, I love to see her effort.
My task there is not difficult to do, some housework and taking Zeynep to the school. Sultan and Aykut taught me the datils carefully.
Sultan arranged me local boys there and we shared a lot of time there. I love the boys and they are friends for life. We played poker, made sushi together, played some sports. Max aura guys. I opened holes for the pierce for the first time with Sultan lol. I experienced how Turkish people celebrate the children’s day. Trip to Adana. A lot of memories in Osmaniye.
I love the family and the people there, my stay in Osmaniye was full of fun. I thank the family again for sharing great time with me and I wish we can see each other in the future.

This workaway is not an exchange of work for time it’s an opportunity to experience a different culture with an extremely open and caring family. The family constantly went … read more above and beyond to allow me to experience new things, and I truly felt a part of the family.

The family lives in a small city in Turkey, Osmaniye, and although it’s certainly not Istanbul it is a true working-class city.

Sultan (the mother) and I spent a lot of time together. She loves to chat, and I learnt a huge amount from her as we discussed so many different topics. She is very open and really cares about the people around her. She constantly puts herself out for others and she really tried hard to give me a special experience. We would go on walks together every evening and chat about everything and I got to learn a huge amount about Turkish history and culture. She also keeps you guessing with one of her favourite sayings "Turkey is full of surprises!"

Aykut (the father) is a living legend. He is super easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor and is a great father. He is a fantastic cook and enjoys teaching others. He didn't mind sharing his knowledge and I asked LOTS of questions. This was a real highlight of the experience for me.

Zeynep and Zehra might just be the loveliest kids I have ever met. They have such nice personalities. They can speak a little bit of English, but I still managed to bond with them, and I really enjoyed spending time with them every day. If you do challenge Zeynep to a game of chess, be prepared to lose! She has a real talent for it. We played inside and out and I especially enjoyed teaching them how to build a dam in the river.

Over the month I spent with the family I got to experience both the typical household life and an olive harvest. The household days included walking the kids to school in the morning, doing some cleaning, doing the dishes and helping with the day-to-day jobs. The work wasn’t demanding, and Sultan was very fair and let you take breaks if you were tired. We went to the local bazaar to do the weekly shop and Sultan once bought me like 30 pomegranates as I mentioned I hadn’t tried one before…..

In addition to the housework, Sultan organized for me to go to the local schools to run English classes. This was a lot of fun and it was interesting to get an inside experience of how the primary schools work in Turkey. You will also be a celebrity and get to practice writing your signature. You get to meet the school managers and teachers and will be offered a Cay tea every 15 minutes without fail :). Overall, just a fantastic experience.

I also was involved with the annual olive harvest, and this was another highlight of the experience. Another 8 workawayers joined us from all over the world and we had an amazing group of people. We ate fantastic food, picked olives, played games and laughed a lot.

Overall, this experience is something I will remember forever. By the end of my time here I really felt like one of the family and an older brother to the daughters and saying goodbye was actually quite upsetting for me. If you ever have the opportunity to do this workaway I am confident you will not regret it. I want to thank the whole family again for being so welcoming and kind to me and giving me a once in a lifetime experience. One
day I will have to come back and try the famous Osmaniye Ice cream which Sultan promised I would love!

I came from Japan and stayed for about three … read more weeks. Before I arrived, Sultan had a video call with me, kindly answering any concerns or worries I had. She also gave me detailed information about how to get from Istanbul to Osmaniye, including bus schedules and where to buy tickets. On the day I arrived, she picked me up from the bus station, which was a great help.

During my stay, my tasks mainly involved cleaning (like washing dishes and vacuuming). We also went shopping together sometimes, but none of the tasks were difficult. They were considerate of my remote work schedule, so I had plenty of personal time as well. The room I stayed in was spacious, and the breeze from the window was incredibly refreshing.

Sultan and Aykut prepared meals every day. They are both excellent cooks and made a variety of delicious dishes. Every time they asked, "Do you want more?" I couldn’t resist getting seconds . The dolma and pilaf that Aykut made were particularly exceptional.

Sultan loves to talk, and she taught me not only about Osmaniye but also about Turkish politics, the economy, and the earthquake that happened in 2023. She also has a deep interest in Japan, so we talked a lot about Japan, too. She introduced me to many of her friends and people in Osmaniye. Aykut, who loves to joke, is an engineer, teaches the children, and can do pretty much anything.

Sultan took me to many places, including the weekly Wednesday bazaar where we bought fresh vegetables and fruits together. I also taught English and Japanese culture at the schools of both Sultan and Zehra. At Zeynep's school and the local library, I taught origami. The students loved it, and I wrote their names in katakana and showed them my name in kanji, which they found fascinating. I was surprised that some of the children already knew about Japan, and those who didn’t were really curious to learn more, which made me very happy.

I was also taken to Zehra's archery range and Zeynep's art class. Both girls are very self-driven, and I was amazed at how independent and mature they were, especially at school compared to their home life.

Even though my English wasn’t great, Sultan and Aykut were always considerate, slowing down their speech and using translation apps to communicate with me. English speakers were rare in Osmaniye, so using a translation app came in handy. I recommend downloading Turkish offline in a translation app before you arrive. Learning basic Turkish greetings will also make the locals incredibly happy.

Despite their busy schedules, Sultan and Aykut always made time for their children. I especially enjoyed the family conversations during meals—they were always full of laughter and warmth. Sultan and Aykut are not only wonderful parents but also amazing individuals.

Osmaniye turned out to be completely different from my expectations—it was much safer and friendlier than I had imagined. The people love to talk, and sometimes they even asked me to take pictures with them.

Since I love taking photos and making videos, I captured a lot of moments during my stay, such as making tomato sauce, dolma, and teaching origami. Everyone was delighted with the videos I made.

The three weeks flew by, filled with fresh and exciting experiences, and every day was enjoyable. I am so glad I came to Osmaniye.

Once again, thank you so much to Sultan, Aykut, Zehra, and Zeynep for welcoming me into your home. I will never forget this Workaway experience. I am truly grateful, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
