    Goeie dag/Guten Tag/ Good day
    Goeie dag/Guten Tag/ Good day
I am Linda (retired Spesial needs teacher) from Windhoek Namibia. Together with my husband Ben (retired police officer) and a friend Leandra (Supervisor, Tutor and Mentor) run a small Home base educational Centre with 15 children (ages 9 - 17)

What we do - in a nutshell:
Our Centre is a small Home base educational Centre situated in a suburb in Windhoek (the capital of our beautiful country Namibia)
We cater in the need of parents who choose to pursue home-based education for one or more of the following reasons:
Health & Well-being: A medical or psychological condition exists that makes regular school attendance difficult or contrary to the child’s health interest
Individualized Pacing: A child that is a [Gifted Learner / Special Needs Learner] who requires a pace of instruction (remediation or acceleration) that traditional classrooms cannot provide.
Safety & Supervision: Due to our status as working parents, we require a "Place of Care" (as defined by the Child Care and Protection Act, 2015) to ensure our child is supervised in a secure environment during working hours.
Religious & Moral Convictions: Who wish to integrate specific religious or moral values into their child’s daily routine that are not provided in the state system.
Curriculum Preference: Who have selected an international curriculum to provide their child with global academic opportunities.
Remote Location/Travel: Family’s logistical or professional situation requires the flexibility of a non-traditional schedule.
As our Mission stated we are a Centre where children under supervision and assistance of educational coaches/facilitators can study, learn and create, and are inspire to develop their personal strengths, to overcome their weaknesses and to develop their capacities to build better lives for themselves and for others. Our aim is not focused on only an academic outcome, but to prepare our kids to become real world ready.
Under supervision and guidance, we have 3 x 1-hour academic sessions per day and during /after that our aim is to focus on other “real-life ready” skills: e.g. Computer/Internet literacy, Problem solving, develop organizational skills, Meal planning (according to a budget) shopping, bookkeeping of their funds, meal preparation and cleanup. We manage a garden and a chicken coop, which we use for own supplies or to be sold to buy other necessities. We do cooking and baking, do sewing classes, arts and a variety of entrepreneurial skills during the afternoon. We introduce our children to all basic skills regarding things in and around the house (electricity, woodwork, building skills, , vehicle maintenance and all general repairs, maintenance and paint. For this reason, we operate full day (Monday – Thursday 7h – 16h; Friday 7h – 12h) and we follow the government School year plan.

    What a typical day at our Centre will look like;
Our day starts at 7h00 with a devotional/scripture, prayer and soul enrichment session.
We then have a Coffee and breakfast session. They prepare breakfast according to their chosen menu – eat and then clean up
Each day we have 3 x 1-hour sessions on the online school system by which the child is enrolled in, with 15 min breaks in between. (Parents choose, register and pay for the online school system or their choice – we facilitate guidance and provide support)
After “the academic session” they prepare lunch, eat and clean up.
During the afternoon the children participate in planning and doing a variety of development activities for which we would welcome new ideas from you
We conclude each day by summarizing every child’s academic progress, evaluate the day’s activities and then end with an enrichment quote and prayer.
We also encourage our children to take part in at least one “outside” extra-curricular activity for which we are willing to arrange transport (if reasonable).
All our Parents are very much involved in the Centre and though interaction with them you will quickly become part of our extended Namibian family.

We welcome any help you can give!
We are not a “School” and we choose not to be called a “Centre” but a family – If you feel you can fit into our family and if you are willing to assist us with our daily activities, we would like to welcome you to join us and also teach us more about yourself and your country and culture.
Most commonly, people who will visit, will help out by assisting our staff, and running creative activities. However, volunteer involvement is not limited to that. In the past, assisting staff and parents have designed, planned and acquired materials for projects to improve the infrastructure of our Centre, like painting projects, rebuilding structures and improving our garden. Other volunteer occupations might included training initiatives (In February we start with a basic design and design thinking project as we received a 3D printer and we need to figure out the what's and how's ), helping with fundraising and fundraising Ideas for our Woeker (Hustler) project, photography, help with Computers/ Internet/ desining apps, provided other useful skills and sharing your expertise and culture with the children.
We will welcome any new ideas that volunteers can bring. Don’t worry if you think you might not have any relevant skills, there are many ways to help in the Centre and the children will appreciate your efforts and support.

We ask volunteers to give at least 3-5 hours help a day, 5 days a week in any way you can. (Friday after 12, Saturday and Sundays are off) We are particularly looking for people who are interested in staying for longer periods of time to become more integrated with the children, however we are still very happy to have people visit for any amount of time.
Meal preparation is part of our daily routine to teach the children about hygiene, nutrition cooking skills etc. We are interested in volunteers sponsor this project and consider offering to teach the preparation of dishes from their country. We are excited about this activity as it will not only provides nice meals for the children, it will expose them to a broad view of food and also provide an opportunity to teach them about your culture in an active setting. We expect to have 3 – 5 children at a time participate in the cooking session which will take place in the mornings (breakfast) and after the academic slot for lunch. If volunteers are interested in learning what Namibian kids prefer to eat you have to join them for meal planning sessions and for breakfasts and lunch . Cleanup after preparing and enjoying meals are also part of our daily routine.
We ask volunteers to help with:
    Art Projects
    Language practice
    Gardening
    DIY and building projects
    Creating/ Cooking family meals
    Help around the house
    General Maintenance
    Help with Computers/ Internet use
and in exchange we offer meals and accommodation.

Este anfitrión ofrece intercambio de idiomas
The children in our centre are Afrikaans/ English and some also speak and understand a bit of German. But as all children are, they will love to learn some new words in other Languages.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

Volunteers stay in a guest room in our home in Windhoek, and have access to the kitchen, Living room, outside areas and swimming pool.
Please note that the food served is basic. Breakfast and lunch can vary depending on the Centre’s menu and budget. Vegetarian diets are a challenge to us Carnivore Namibians and meals are usually planned around something meaty, therefore be prepared to cater for yourself for extras, if you have special dietary needs. However, you will be able to stock up on a variety of fresh items, snacks, drinks and other items from a supermarket within walking distance from our house. You can also find several shops in town where you can buy almost anything. As the Centre is only open till 17h00 daily and closed over weekends you will have the opportunity to prepare your own dinners and weekend meals. Thursday evenings is “Braai aand” (barbeque evening) and you will then be introduced to real Namibia cuisine.
