We have a small organic family farm in northern New Mexico, located at 7600 feet in the southern part of the Rocky Mountains. We have dairy goats, a dairy cow coming this spring, sometimes a pig, poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys), 3 dogs, a cat, and a large home garden/orchard/berries in which we grow a large variety of food, process it and preserve it for our own self sufficiency. Our other interests include hiking, stand up paddle boarding, xc skiing, cooking, baking (including sourdough bread) and cheese making, wellness, making body-care products, art, music, literature, and culture.
We are formerly high school science teachers and a married couple who are now empty nesters as our children (ages 25 and 28) have gone off on their own adventures. We split our time between the farm and our mountain shop in Taos.
We are committed to a healthy and sustainable home. Non-smokers only please. We are omnivores, focused on eating local, healthy, organic meals with an emphasis on vegetables (with locally and humanely raised meat here and there). We can accommodate vegetarians, but generally not vegans. Elana is primarily gluten free.
We enjoy spending time with people from other areas of the world and sharing a bit of our lives in Taos. This spring/summer, our soon-to-arrive cow and our goats will be giving birth, so there will be a calf and baby goats bouncing around. In the growing season we prefer people who are able to stay for a few weeks or more, who either have some gardening experience or are energetic and eager to learn.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Taos is home to Taos Pueblo, a 1000 year old Native American community. Taos is also a very culturally rich and deeply spiritual place. With us you can learn a wide variety of Homesteading skills. There is also an abundance of hiking trails in the surrounding mountains and in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument.
Ayuda
In the growing season, we tend the garden and process the produce to preserve it for winter. We feed, water, and milk the dairy goats and cow. We sometimes have building projects, such as constructing a shed or building a gate or fence. In additions to the farm projects, we invite our work away guests to help in the kitchen preparing food, making cheese and bread, and cleaning up.

Our home is a 10 minute walk to the village of Arroyo Seco (that has a cafe, organic grocery store, several cute shops and a youth hostel) and a 15 minute drive to Taos. We are a few minutes drive to many beautiful hiking trails in the mountains and to the Rio Grande River. If you want to join us on adventures in the mountains or down to the river, you are welcome to come! We are social and enjoy hosting dinners and game nights with our Workaways along with other young people in our circle. Several of our former Workaways have returned for additional stays or visits. We have been Workaway hosts for over 10 years.
Taos is in a remote part of New Mexico. It is difficult to get here if you don't have your own transportation. There is some public transportation from Albuquerque (the Rail Runner train to Santa Fe and the free Blue Bus from Santa Fe to Taos. We own a shop in Taos where we can meet Work Away guests and drive them to our home in Arroyo Seco. If you're coming for an extended period, we can pick you up in Santa Fe. We may have a spare car that can be used at times.Un poco más de información
