Hello!
We are Pierre and Teresa and we look forward to meeting you! We are both experienced workaway volunteers and hosts. We actually met, in a way, through Workaway and got married a couple of years ago. Pierre is from the United States and Teresa is from Italy. We are both living in Italy growing our own permaculture food-forest and trying to live in a healthy and sustainable way while having fun.
Pierre, previously an engineer, is an excellent cook with a lot of building and gardening experience. He has an electronics background and is very capable mechanically. Teresa works as a teacher with disabled children, so has a lot of experience with children and keeping them engaged and having a good time. She is also good at pruning, cleaning, garden maintenance and animal care.
We look forward to exchanging stories, music, recipes, laughs and good times with you. We are easy going and fun loving.
We are both students of permaculture design and are interested in polyculture, food forests, capturing and retaining water on the land, working with animals, studying nature, building with regeneration and permaculture ethics in mind, rediscovering methods that have been forgotten or lost to time, off-grid life, self-sufficiency, intentional communities, and food as medicine.
Hosting considerations:
We are omnivorous. We have no allergies or aversions.
We prefer eating locally grown ingredients without chemical treatment.
We are comfortable with outdoor kitchens, cooking with biomass and using compost toilets.
A bed that would fit both of us would be prefered, but two singles beds would also be considered.
Some internet access or cell service is preferable but not mandatory.
For work, we prefer not to use petroleum based tools if possible. We prefer manual or electric tools for saving our health and the environment.

Unfortunately, we had a bad experience staying with Matt. We spent our first entire day collecting and cleaning walnuts and staining our hands black. At the end of the day Matt had prepared a nice meal, which we were very grateful for. The sleeping arrangement was quite unpleasant though. Pierre came to us with his partner Teresa, they're a really nice couple and would be wonderful couchsurfing guests.
Unfortunately I can't honestly recommend them to a host that wants any work doing that's in the least physically demanding, at least not as a pair.

Pierre came and helped us for a week or so. He is a lovely guy and really gave us a good lift with the work on the cabin. Everyone really enjoyed chatting with Pierre in the evening as he is a mature and intelligent bloke. Thanks for all the help Pierre! Good luck in Portugal and Italy!

Although Pierre (and the lovely Teresa) were here for only three days, they did make such a difference to the garden.

Pierre is incredibly competent as a cook, gardener, and as a technician - he can fix damn near anything. We had a great time learning from each other.
