Descripción
Our elementary school is a private non-profit Christian school located in the countryside of Latvia in the Bauska district, where children from 7 to 13 years of age learn, some of whom stay at the school in the dormitories for the entire school week.
On the school grounds there is an organic farm with blackcurrant and currant bushes, a large apple orchard and plum trees, a greenhouse where tomatoes and cucumbers are grown. There is also a sheep pen and a pigeon house.
Children are also involved in community life and agricultural activities, learning to grow plants and care for animals.
In addition to agriculture, children are also involved in other activities such as music (percussion instruments, the piano, the guitar, etc.), arts and crafts, and sports activities.
200 m from the school there is a pond with a boardwalk where children and adults swim all year round, even in winter. The school has a flight simulation class with a pilot training cabin and a flight simulator. Children also learn to fly drones. On the school grounds there is a "craft house" where there are craft tables and a kiln where ceramic vessels are fired.

Ayuda
We have 5 main work segments : School, Kindergarten, Agricultural tasks, Construction tasks, and Cleaning. Workawayers can help with children in school and plan after-school activities and teach;
Help on the farm, take care of the animals and tend the garden, do construction tasks, perform various maintenance tasks such as cleaning, or chopping wood for heating helping us to improve our living conditions.
All segments are somewhat intertwined.
You'll be doing mostly one thing, but you'll be asked to help out with other things too, like any household task.
You will be provided 4 meals a day.

There are single or double rooms on the third floor of the school. There are also two toilets and shower rooms on this floor.

School holidays in Latvia are three months, from the beginning of June to the end of August. . If you want to work with kids make sure you're with us from September until June. In the summer we mostly do construction and farmwork. We do organise multiple camps in the summer though so you could contribute to some of them.
Getting here: Volunteers in Bus station can buy a bus ticket from Rīga to Barbele. Bus fare at the time of writing (07.2024) is 3.80 €. Buses on this route depart from Rīga bus station three time a day at 7:45, 16:30 and 18:10.
The journey takes 1h 20 and the volunteer will be welcomed at the bus stop.
