Descripción
Hello, we are Laura and Andries (45 years), a Dutch couple living in Sweden.
We live on a quiet countryside property surrounded by nature. Here we are building a simple, hands-on life step by step.
Alongside our remote consulting work (mainly in winter), we are developing a small-scale vegetable garden. This is a side project and a learning journey for us. It is not financially established and will not be for the coming years. Help is being provided in our private garden and for the animals. You will not be taking part of the future market garden.
Our place
We live on a small property of about 5500 m² around the house, with a garden and animals. We also use a nearby piece of land where we are slowly starting to grow vegetables.
Life here is practical, calm and outdoors. We share the place with cats, a dog, chickens and goats. They are part of daily life.
What we are doing
We are in a learning phase where we explore gardening, food growing and working more closely with nature.
This includes:
- growing vegetables and flowers
- improving the soil step by step
- working without chemical pesticides
- observing and learning from the natural environment
Everything is small-scale, informal and still developing.
How you can be part of it
As a Workawayer, you join us in daily life and small projects around the house and garden.
This can include:
* helping in our own privat garden (sowing, planting, weeding)
* simple outdoor tasks
* small DIY or organising projects
* helping take care of the animals
* creative projects like improving the garden or making simple things for the animals
* helping shape the space, for example creating garden borders
Because we are just starting, there is a lot of room for ideas and creativity. We enjoy learning from each other and exchanging knowledge.
How we work
We usually work together during the mornings.
On average, you help around 4 to 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. Afternoons and evenings are free.
We keep things flexible and based on weather and energy. We don’t focus on strict schedules, but on working together in a relaxed and respectful way.
We often work more ourselves, but this is not expected from you.
What you can expect
This is a place where you can:
- experience a simple countryside lifestyle
- learn basic gardening and practical skills
- see how a small garden is created from scratch
- be part of improving the soil and working with nature
- bring your own ideas and creativity
Who this suits
This place suits someone who:
- enjoys simple living
- likes being outdoors
- is curious and practical
- enjoys creating and thinking along
- feels comfortable in a quiet, shared home
Living here
You stay in our home. It is a shared and personal living space.
The house has two levels, each with its own living room and bathroom. The guest bedroom is on the main floor, where the kitchen and entrance are. We spend most of our time on the lower level.
This gives you space to move freely and have privacy, while still sharing daily life together.
You have your own bedroom with a double bed. We can host one person or a couple.
Minimum stay is 3 weeks. We are looking for one Workawayer (or a couple) at a time.
We have space from mid-April until the end of June.
We share home-cooked (mostly vegetarian) meals.
We also have a stable internet connection, so it is possible to combine your stay with remote work.
Life beyond the work
We enjoy meeting new people and learning about different cultures. Travel has always been an important part of our lives, and hosting is a way for us to keep that connection.
We have a small but active social circle here, both with Swedish and international people. If you like, you are very welcome to join us for social activities in the weekends or evenings. This is always optional, depending on what you prefer.
Location and free time
We live in a quiet rural area, about 11 km from the nearest town.
In your free time you can enjoy nature, go for walks or bike rides, or explore the area.
We are close to Lake Vänern, the Göta Canal and small towns like Mariestad. There is plenty of space to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
Why we do this
We chose this life because we wanted to work more with our hands, spend more time outdoors and build something of our own, step by step.
If this way of living speaks to you, we would love to hear from you.

We love showing guests around the area and encourage them to enjoy the peace and space here. It's great to exchange experiences, especially when it comes to gardening and DIY projects. On nice days, we enjoy having meaningfull conversations around a campfire. And we love game nights.

Ayuda
We work alongside you on the project, usually Monday to Friday.
On average, you will help around 4 to 5 hours per day. We often work longer ourselves, especially in this beginning phase, but this is not expected from you.
We prefer a steady and practical rhythm over strict schedules. Some days are a bit longer, others lighter, depending on the weather and the type of work.
In general, weekends are free. Occasionally we may do a small task together, but we always decide this in a relaxed and flexible way.
There is always space to take breaks, have a coffee in the sun, or slow down when needed. For us, working with the land also means paying attention to your energy and the rhythm of the day.
We don’t track hours strictly. What matters to us is trust, clear communication and working together in a good way.
If you are a digital nomad or combine this with your own work, there is enough free time outside the working hours to focus on your own projects. We have a stable internet connection and a quiet environment.
The work is mainly practical and hands-on. You can think of gardening, simple farm tasks and small building or organising projects. No specific experience is needed. Curiosity, initiative and a willingness to contribute are more important.
