You are welcome to bring your dog.
Hi, I am looking for a house and dog sitter to come and stay at my house ASAP until the around the 24th September 2025. A couple would be preferred as the house is 2.5km from the nearest village and you might get lonely on your own. You would also benefit if you have your own car as it is a long walk to the village in the summer heat. You will need to have lots of experience looking after big dogs and be able to cope with the long, hot summer. I don't have aircon. I hate the heat, which is why I have gone to England. You are more than welcome to bring your own friendly dog.
I am currently in the UK and my current house sitters are unfortunately having to leave early, so I need someone ASAP.

Duties would be to look after the house, water the plants, and walk the dog twice a day. In return you get the use of the house. You would just need your own internet connection via sim card (see below). There is an allowance of £55 a week towards food.

I live on a small holding 2 1/2 km from the traditional Andalucian village of Riogordo, with my two Siberian Husky dogs, a cocker spaniel, and various other dogs. I have 2 1/2 acres of land set at the bottom of the valley with a river running through it and lots of orange trees and pomegranates.

The house is in a rural setting, if you live in a city, you may choose to call it remote. That means there are no people living close by. If you are scared of things that go bump in the night, please don't come! I do go days without talking to people and that is the way I like it! (Although when I do get the opportunity to talk I don't shut up.. The village is a 40 minute walk away although it is possible you might be able to get a lift some times as the lane is used a lot by villagers coming down to feed their animals and water there crops.

You will be staying in the guest apartment on the top floor of my house. It has a bedroom, shower room, living room and kitchen. There is a DVD player, although the TV isn't connected up there at the moment. There is no Spanish TV connected as I don't speak the language. There also isn't any aircon, although I do have free standing fans. I don't have a pool either and the house is probably best described as rough and ready, just incase you are expecting a luxurious villa!

Internet and phone connections. The following Spanish companies have a signal that can be received from my house: Orange, Movistar, Yoigo, Digimobile and Vodaphone. It is possible there are others that will work but I can't guarantee it. I don't have a wifi internet connection. I get my internet via a dongle with 3G sim card, (The same as you use in a phone.) You can always use your mobile phone to tether to your laptop, if you have bought a Spanish sim card with a data package. I pay 15 euros a month for 50 GB with Vodaphone. That is enough for me to run the dogs social media accounts and Upload some videos to YouTube. You can buy those sim cards in the village. If you don't have a dongle or a phone that can connect to the internet then there is an internet cafe in town. There is also a bar which has free wifi.

It is a truly magical and special place here, far from the hustle and bustle of the city I used to live in. A place to be inspired, batteries recharged and some where to get in touch which your spiritual side. The river is full of trout, frogs and turtles and has herons nesting near by that come down to fish. The trees are full of oranges, lemons and pomegranates. Nothing beats picking an orange straight from the tree and if want to practise your Spanish you will get plenty of practice in the village, which is still unspoilt by tourists.

    About me.
I always like to read prospective workaways profiles to see if we might be compatible and get along ok, so I guess it is time I added a bit about myself to my profile.
I'm in my fifties and a British expat. I have lived in Spain for 17 years, and no I haven't learnt the language in that time. Yeah, I am one of those kind of expats. My dogs understand English and I don't talk to anyone else, so don't see the point. I used to have horses but they are gone now and my dogs take up all of my time. I compete at agility and when in the UK hoppers as well. I take myself and the dogs off to the Uk every summer for three months as I don't like the heat here. I am very artistic and like to paint in acrylic and make sculptures, although I am not very good at finishing things! I work as a content creator online. So the internet signal I pick up via my phone is big enough to send large videos. I am a meat eater, and my dogs eat a diet of raw meat and bones. I don't smoke or drink alcohol, and my only addiction is chocolate! I hate noise, don't listen to music and rarely do housework. I like dogs, animals, art, reading (when I have time) long walks, dog training, travel and oh yes, chocolate!

The village of Riogordo is the perfect place to practise your Spanish, unlike on the coast, very little English is spoken. However, I only speak English. There are plenty of learning opportunities if you are interested in dog training, especially agility and trick training.

Riogordo is 40 minutes from Malaga airport and the coast. A bus runs several times a day down to Malaga city. The village is a 40 minute walk from my house. The village is very traditionally Spanish with old fashioned values. It is very quiet and peaceful where I live at the bottom of the valley. There are fish and turtles in the river and herons nesting near by.
