We run a Honey Farm in Ireland. It is a friendly, positive and professionally run environment. Our establishment constists of approx 170 colonies of native Irish black honey bees and 100 mini mating colonies for the summer season. Our honey farm - in the Galtee Vee Valley - is based at the edge of a beautiful forest of about 1200 acres of mixed woodland, ideal for cycles and walks. Our hives are in some lovely rural areas around the valley.

We are a really nice family, we have had a lot of people come to help us and learn from us over the years.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about Honey bees especially the Irish Black Honey Bee. Learn about the plants for bees in Ireland, beekeeping skills. Travellers will see a lot of the Irish countryside as we travel to our apiaries in the jeep. It is an Irish custom to pass on the knowledge of bees and beekeeping to those who seek it. And because I am a beekeeping instructor, I teach as we are working throughout the day. And I always encourage questions. I am also available to give an evening once a week/fortnight to teach our helpers on whatever aspect of beekeeping they wish to learn about. In the middle of the summer, many who stay for six weeks or more, have more experience and confidence with bees than someone who has kept bees on a small scale for a few years.

Our immediate countryside is beautiful and is right beside nature, the hiking is great here in the summer time.

It is a good opportunity for our helpers to travel and experience the culture of Ireland and all its beauty. We always encourage our helpers to take a few days break away at weekends to travel while here and visit as many places, attractions and areas of Ireland as possible. But they are also very welcome to hang around the mobile home at weekends, as we wish them to treat it as their home while they stay here. We can give lots of advice on where to go what to see.

We bring helpers to the supermarket once a week. They do their weekly food shop and we pay for it. We do not cook meals for helpers, they cook their own meals but we do invite them in for a meal with us once a week/fortnight.

We always want our helpers to be happy and comfortable staying with us. We have had some great workawayers this past year.

We have a mobile home with an extension. (approx. 310 square metres / 584 square feet)It has three bedrooms - one large, one medium and one small. Large bedroom can hold a couple if required. The mobile home is large. It is not new but is clean, warm, cheerful and has everything in it that you would require. It is very warm and cosy in winter and people that stay are happy with it. My husband and two children lived in it for 5 years while building our own house. It has electric shower/bathroom, kitchen with all facilities, Internet, Wood pellet stove and central heating.
