Help us in the fight against marine pollution while traveling along some beautiful regions of Italy.
This is the pilot project by a Norwegian and Italian NGO that decided to join forces to solve global problems.
We are looking for volunteers who can help us with this project on the following dates:
2/05- 18/05. Where: Calderara di Reno (Bologna)
31/05-6/6 Where: Riccione SEA
6/6 -18/6 Where: Rimini SEA
8/07- 15/07 Where: Gabicce Mare SEA
18/08-31/08 Where: Calderara di Reno (Bologna)
We have defined some periods in which to participate in the project. You can participate in all weeks or even just one, based on your availability. On the last date, you will also have the opportunity to visit and participate in the centre, a center for the creative reuse of company waste materials together with the children of the summer center and learn about our experiences.
This environmental education project is a traveling project in the Emilia Romagna and Marche Regions on pollution, with particular reference to the environment of our seas; the aim is to raise awareness, inform and increase the knowledge of as many people as possible (in particular the new generations) on the topic of marine pollution.
It was born following a volunteer experience in 2022 of an italian girl, in the Norwegian organization during the "Education and Beach Cleaning" project that the Norwegian NGO has been carrying out since 2016. Following these trips, the exhibition “We don't have a second plan-et” was born in 2023, which collects and recounts the fruits of this experience and which continues to carry forward and propose. At this point the need arose on both sides to join forces and skills to carry forward a common project.
The project has the goal to work together to propose the same idea of awareness raising, adapting it to the Italian context. It will be carried out by an Italian NGO, a center for the creative reuse of company waste materials in collaboration (remotely) with the Norwegian NGO.
We will travel both inland and on the Italian coast, dealing directly with the waste problem. While you see this new project born within our association, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the Italian territory and meet new people from all over the world. We will learn and have fun!
Sounds interesting?
Make sure to read all the information below before applying!
Our 2024 mission
Our mission this year is to collect waste from different environment and educate along two different regions of Italy: Emilia Romagna and Marche.
About the project
The project includes two combined actions:
1. Action to raise awareness and environmental education through the invitation to participate in workshops and an exhibition entitled "We don't have a second plan-et" in our MOBILE CLASSROOM. Our mobile classroom consists of a pop-up tent where we invite classes.
The idea of the mobile classroom was born in Norway by the NGO that has been carrying out this project since 2016, and wants to satisfy the need to get the young generations out of the outdoor school context and has the objective of being open to all, democratic, accessible and inclusive, because we would like to reach as many people as possible. It aims to be a meeting point for exchanging ideas, questions and problem solving to develop our critical thinking when faced with a complex problem.
Therefore, parallel to cleaning we give lectures about marine pollution to the age group ranging from kindergarten to high school. The lectures are mainly given in Italian, but as a volunteer, you are an important part of making it possible for the teacher to give lectures and spread awareness about pollution. We have created an outdoor classroom to bring with us along the coastline. Our mobile classroom consists of a pop-up tent where we invite classes. As a volunteer, you will help with logistics, creating the classroom atmosphere, and sometimes help during lectures.
2. CLEANING ACTIONS of ecosystems (beaches, streets, parks). If you join our crew, you will be taking part in the important job of cleaning environments from waste, not only to preserve nature but also to create awareness and structural changes.
By combining clean-up and awareness through workshops and exhibitions, we believe we have found the right combination to face, transversally and on multiple levels of action, the problem of marine pollution, the related poor management of waste and excessive consumption, with the objective of promoting large-scale impact.
Who are we?
The project was born in collaboration between a Norwegian NGO and an Italian association.
The Norwegian NGO coordinates, manages the project remotely and shares its experience (it has been carrying out this project in Norway since 2016) while those who will take care of the active part of the work in the field will be an Italian association.
The volunteers will deal with the Italian association in Italy.
Norwegian NGO: was founded in 1993 and is a well-established environmental NGO in Norway with headquarters in Bergen, and regional offices in Tromsø, Trondheim, and Oslo. Their fields consist of all direct and indirect cases between environmental protection and social welfare, such as climate, ecosystem protection, the marine environment, food security, indigenous rights, politics, building protection, etc.
Italian NGO: was founded in 2007 and promote ecological and ethical behavior, through the ideation and realization of educational projects addressed to: children, young adults, teachers, and all categories of educators. Since 2008, the Association has managed a Center for the Creative Reuse of Company Waste Materials, which collects materials obtained from the inventories and waste of industrial and artisanal production, giving them a new life. The center has been dealing with the collection and distribution of waste materials at the Waste Emporium and with the implementation of various educational and training projects aimed at schools of all levels and the staff of public and private bodies and to families since November 2008.
It valorises imperfect products and objects that no longer have an economic value, but which are rich in creative potential in continuous evolution.

Travelers who come to our project will find a meeting ground for many different nationalities and cultures, among learning about the Italian culture and history we often try to make different dishes from the countries our volunteers are from; and you will also get to taste some proper Italian food.
You will have the opportunity to get to know our center, all the spaces, you will be able to learn about and play with the materials and learn about the educational approach that we have been carrying out for 15 years. The center is also frequented by children, teachers, artists, artisans (including international ones) and therefore you will have the opportunity to meet them directly
You will be introduced to our local communities, visiting cities and villages to see how we live and protect nature. You will also meet the younger generations through lectures, and probably have some interesting chats with locals on cleaning events.
You will create international connections, while also likely learn a lot about environmental protection and politics from us, as these are topics we often discuss.
On top of that you will meet people from all over the world, creating contacts and friends for life!Ayuda

Our accommodation consists of houses. It is in general good standards on the places we live. There is always access to a kitchen, shower and washing machine. However, keep in mind that we live on a small area together over a longer period, and you will have to share rooms (and sometimes double beds) with other volunteers of same gender.
Meals are made by the group 3-4 times a day. We decide collectively on what to eat. If you have special preferences, you may bring personal food. We try to choose a vegetarian diet, therefore in line with our sustainability values, and we provide meals which the group makes and decides on together. But there will always be possible to buy meat or fish at the grocery store if wanted. If you have any special preferences, you can bring personal food, or get it when we go to the grocery store.Algo más...
