Are you a nature lover and creative enthusiast looking for an opportunity to learn traditional crafts?
Nestled in the serene rural mountains of Tausa, Colombia, just an hour and a half from Bogotá, our home is the dream come true of two passionate individuals (aka my parents) who sought refuge from the city's fast pace. El Mirador is situated in at an altitude of approximately 3150 meters with a one-of-a-kind view of the Embalse del Neusa. The region's main economic activities include agriculture, livestock farming, and eco-tourism. Guests can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and playing the national sport Tejo, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Supporting this dream, we have the help of our neighbors and locals: Yolanda, who assists with cleaning once a week; Miguelito, our right-hand man for construction; and Maruja, who provides us with fresh cheese and milk.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
At our home, volunteers will enjoy meaningful conversations, connecting with our warm family and the local community. My parents, both retired and over 60, love sharing stories and hosting guests—especially over a delicious breakfast, their love language. You’ll have the chance to learn from their diverse skills, including textile design, crochet, loom weaving, pottery, carpentry, and bread making. In return, my parents are eager to learn about different cultures and share the beauty of Colombian traditions, especially with their neighbors who grow native potatoes, make cheese, and farm cows.
Ayuda
This homestead, with a beautiful view of the Embalse del Neusa, offers volunteers a unique opportunity to experience country living while assisting with daily chores such as chopping wood, tending to the vegetable garden, grass cutting, and occasional building projects. In exchange for your help, you'll enjoy a comfortable bed, delicious homemade meals, and the chance to learn valuable craftsmanship skills like pottery, woodworking, and loom weaving from my talented parents.

My mom studied at a German school and my dad at a French school. Their language skills are a bit rusty but they would love the opportunity to practice and continue learning.Alojamiento
Our home offers two cozy guest rooms: one with a queen bed and a private bathroom, and the other with two single beds and a shared bathroom. Guests will stay on the first floor, while my parents' room is located on the second floor. The living room, terrace, and kitchen are shared spaces, and there is Wi-Fi available, though it can be intermittent. My parents will provide two main meals, breakfast and lunch, and guests are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare additional meals. If you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, please let us know so we can accommodate your needs.
Algo más...
To get to our home, take the Rapidos El Carmen bus from Bogotá and ask the driver if it stops in Tausa, the nearest town to us. From there, you can contact us for a pick-up. Alternatively, we can arrange a direct pick-up from Bogotá for a fee—just let us know if you’d prefer that. Once here, you can explore hiking routes, scenic páramo landscapes like Laguna Verde, and enjoy birdwatching. For day trips, you can visit the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá, the Salt Mines in Nemocón, Lake Fuquene, or even take a three-hour trip to Villa de Leyva.
