    ABOUT US

Come join our brand new initiative starting from November 2023 in Japan's budding tourist destination, internationally famous for its stunning beaches and Japanese gardens! Live among fellow international backpackers inside a renovated elementary school and help around with event marketing, English classes, and other projects for Kagawa to reach its truest potential.

Our main goal is to reimagine Kagawa as a destination both for travelers and prospective residents. Japan is currently experiencing two significant changes at once: Population decline and concentration of people in the cities. Rural areas, like those found in Kagawa, are losing their significance and are in danger of disappearing. We see this project as one small thing we can do to preserve the culture we know and love--you'll soon understand that Japan, seen from the lovely mountain ranges and rice fields, presents a very different picture to the Japan of Tokyo and Osaka.

If you see significance in our mission and can be fully on-board, we promise you an unforgettable experience here out on Shikoku Island. Far away from urban destinations, here you'll be immersed in an intersection of culture and gorgeous nature, along with like-minded peers who are waiting to meet you.

    How it works
    1. Workawayers will be compensated with the minimum wage of Kagawa prefecture. (918 yen/hour; subject to change with law)
    2. Workawayers will be required to work a maximum of 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.
    3. Workawayers will be required to stay for at least a month. Please write to us if you would like to negotiate on this.
    4. Workawayers will be responsible for their own travel insurance for the length of their stay.

    BEFORE YOU CONTACT US

①To ensure you get the full experience, all residents must stay for a minimum of ONE MONTH. There is no set maximum; the longer you can stay, the better.

②You will require to have a working holiday visa.

You will then be invited to a quick follow-up call. This is mainly to make sure you're human and that you can behave professionally. We'll also share more about the work you'll participate in and answer your questions! We're looking forward to you joining us.

You will have plenty of opportunities to interact with Japanese people through English classes and other projects, potentially in tourism and agriculture (we will have more ideas soon!) We aim to gather at least sixteen volunteers from all around the world and you'll be able to live and work in close quarters with all of them.

    RELEVANT INFORMATION

Great skills to have (not required):
    Conversational Japanese
    Driver's license (valid in Japan)
    Digital marketing and social media

What to do during your stay:
Sanuki Udon (nationally famous udon noodles)
Onsen (hot springs) and public baths
    Hiking; Camping
Road trips: Ritsurin Garden (0.5hr by car), Chichibugahama Beach (1hr by car), Shodoshima Island (2hr by car) are some top sights. See here to get an idea:
You will also find daily necessities and entertainment in Sanuki city!

    How to get to Sanuki:
Sanuki is located in Shikoku Island, one of Japan's four big islands across the strait to the south of Hiroshima.

From Tokyo, there are direct flights to Takamatsu (the capital of Kagawa). From there to Sanuki you'll take the train for 40 minutes. In total it would be about 100 USD. From other areas of Japan, we recommend either taking the train (Shinkansen) or the highway buses. Don't worry if you aren't comfortable with public transportation--we will help you out as much as you need before traveling and the country is known to be very safe at any hour of the day!
