Descripción
We have several hectares of forest including a large area of regenerating native forest. We started planting trees in 1988 and the increase in biodiversity as the years go by is beautiful to see. We are still planting trees (in winter) but most of the work these days is on dealing with the weeds. The biggest weed we have is old man's beard (clematis vitalba) which is a very rapidly climbing plant that smothers trees and kills them. We are very keen for more help to control this pest. We try to ensure that people experience different jobs. You may also help look after the pet dogs, ducks and chickens if you want. Please note that our minimum stay is one week which is 20 working hours.
We live in a beautiful place. Good clean water and air. Swimming pool and river swims. Beautiful local walks. The property has a network of forest trails that pass through a wide variety of habitats and ecosystems laced with gentle streams. The trails vary in difficulty with the top one leading to an outcrop of white quartz on the ridgeline with expansive views over all of Tasman Bay from Abel Tasman National Park to D'Urville Island on the edge of the Marlborough Sounds. To the east is the expanse of the Richmond Range and to the west is the beautiful skyline of Kahurangi National Park.
We are also a handy base for local explorations and we are happy to work in with you if you wish to have breaks of some days but to come back to a home base.
We have space for up to 5 couples or single people in 5 different bedrooms. We do not put different groups into one room without your consent. Each person or couple has their own private space. Home grown seasonal fruit, nuts and vegetables are available as well as normal vegetarian foods that we supply you with. You do not need to bring any food unless you have particular wishes for special foods.

As we host up to 10 people at a time from many countries there is plenty of cultural exchange. Also we are happy to share kiwi culture and learn yours. Also happy to teach what we know about forest establishment and ecosystems.

Mark picked me up from the busstation which was really nice, however he didn't really introduce me to the place and the work but the other workers there needed to do that. Also I didn't really feel comfortable with the place because of problems with mice. Mark was a nice host but I just wasn't comfortable with the whole situation.

Our minimum stay is a week and Charlotte did not stay the full week which was a bit annoying as it takes up time picking people up and introducing them to the place etc. It would be good if you took note of that in future Charlotte. I had great 3 weeks at marks place! You really life in a community with the other woofers, we did a lot of baking and cooking together. The place itself is very beautiful but you have to be prepared to live in a shared space. I would highly recommend staying there, especially if you want to slow down and rest a little!

I arrived at Mark's house and immediately felt at ease. Communication is good and the other Workawayers on site are very cool and friendly. You can cook delicious meals with vegetables from the garden.

I really enjoyed staying at Mark's, his home is lovely and unique, the people are welcoming, and the property is huge and beautiful. I really enjoyed walking through the woods and taking in the views while weeding old man's beard.
Mark is a great host, a good communicator, and made me feel welcome in his home.

If you like nature lifestyle definetly this is your place! Mark lives in a huge forest and has many things to be done. He tooked some time to teach us about the different plants and trees which was awesome. We also did some inside job when the weather conditions were not so good.

- Mark is an incredible host, great humour, shares everything if you ask and he has had many volunteers since 1980's so he knows the process!

I loved it! Mark and Luan are workers still easy-going people who welcome you and share all they have (but the masterbedroom... of course). I have done things I have never expected to do and realised how working outside on sidehills covered by forest could be entertaining. Work, discover, play, eat, enjoy but mostly: follow your bless ;)
