  • Description

    Hey everyone!
We are two German girls that met whilst volunteering together in a Camphill Community (a kind of care home for adults with learning disabilities) in Scotland for one year.
It is a wonderful place that feels like family, where everyone contributes to daily life in the way they can.
For us volunteers the work not only meant personal care and taking care of the household but also a lot of work outside, in the garden and the farm.

This year taught us both a great variety of things. We really learned to consider and respect everyone's individual needs but we also were able to aquire hands on skills:)

Both of us really enjoyed working outside and spending time in nature, which is exactly why we decided to create this account and find a place where we can make even more experiences.
We are really keen to meet new people, learn from them and develop new skills this way.

    Hey guys,
I (Luise) would describe myself as an open and independent person. I love being social, hanging out with friends and also getting to know new people, but I also really enjoy spending time with myself, especially in nature.

I (Toni) love being active outside, I just came back from a two day long hiking trip on the mountains in the south-west of Bavaria. Some of my interests are yoga, meeting friends, animal welfare (we have five cats, mostly from animal shelters), playing the clarinet and exploring nature :)

Both of us finished school in the spring of 22 and then went on to do voluntary work in a care home for adults with learning disabilities in Scotland. There, us volunteers had all different kinds of jobs helping us to develop new skills.
For example, we took care of the entire 15 person household which helped us to become more independent and responsible. We know how to look after a living space, keep it clean and participate in all the chores. We also learned to cook for a large group of people. Especially Toni really had to get creative whilst cooking vegetarian for lots of ‘meat-eaters’.

Three times a week I (Luise) also worked in the Communities garden where we grew all different kinds of vegetables following the principles of permaculture. I really learned a lot from our gardener there, but I also know there is so much more that I want to find out about!
Another thing I am interested in and also tried a bit myself so far is craftsmanship. We sometimes renovated rooms or built sheds in the community.
Actually most of the furniture in my room are things I picked up from the side of the street and flipped them into something nice. Though I usually had some guidance from others I learned and always had fun.
I am also always eager to try out new things and I am good at learning from mistakes I make along the way:)
I love playing the guitar and spend a lot of my free time reading. I also love being surrounded by animals and children. Actually my first jobs were dog sitting and babysitting for friends and neighbors. I have also worked in local vineyards and a restaurant, which not only taught me how to value the money I spend on travels, but it also taught me perseverance in moments that can be quite unpleasant sometimes. I don't give up easily, usually working through the tough times has been really worth it and rewarding.

In my year in Scotland I (Toni) worked in our Community Farm where we fed our goats, sheep, pigs and chickens, cleaned after them and also grew some vegetables. In the afternoon I helped with a few buildiung projects like building fences or a platform for a yurt.
I would love to gain more experience in this area to be able to realise own projects independently :)
In my free time I enjoy making clothes or decoration with my sewing machine or cooking creative vegetarian meals.
I would love to learn more about gardening and plants. I'm a patient and usually fast learning person and very keen on getting to know new people :)

We're looking forward to hearing from you!
