  • Description

Hi, nice to meet you :)

I am Smila, a girl from Belgium. I am currently having a gap year, travelling and volunteering in Asia, before starting university and study International Cooperation. I may be young, but please get over it! I would be delighted if you could take a little time to find out who I am by reading my profile, skills and work experience.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been making my values heard and speaking out against injustice: I take care of our environment and defend animal welfare, I give a hand to those who don't understand as quickly, I support bullied students, and I speak out to defend students’ rights. I love helping all people, children or underprivileged people. I am passionate about taking care of others and our planet.

I like to challenge myself and find new ways to see the world. I love meeting new and all kind of people. It makes me grow. I have been travelling since I was little, I spent one year in New Zealand (I was 6) and one year in Ontario, Canada (I was 13). Those trips made me fall in love with discovering new places, new people, new cultures, new education... I am addicted to discovering and going on adventures. During the last months, I volunteered in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Vietnam, and I am currently in Indonesia (April ‘24).

I am a positive, open, curious, and outgoing person.

When I am close to nature and natural elements, I feel alive. I love being close to the sea: swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving (certification level 1), sailing, windsurfing... I also love hiking in the mountains, biking, and climbing.

I appreciate taking care of all people, elderly or children. I am a scout leader (8-12 year-old boys), and a summer camp leader for 2-5 year-old children.

I am highly motivated to learn new things and new languages. My mother tongue is French, I also speak English and some German.

  • What else ...

I read that lots of hosts look for older volunteers, and it makes me sad.
I might be young, but all the people I worked with told me I am very mature and responsible for a 18 year-old. They all thought I was 22 or over (even if I am not tall).
    I am NOT into partying/drinking/smoking.

I love learning, helping, taking initiative, guiding and talking with people, encouraging, doing the best I can to make our life better. You can count on me and trust me.

I love playing all types of sports, specially water sports: snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, surfing...
I like to do creative activities, such as painting, drawing...
I love playing board games with my friends and my family, such as Times Up or "Les aventuriers du rail".
