  • Description

    Hello!

My name is Amanda, I am French Canadian and just finished my undergraduate degree in Linguistics. I am currently taking some time to travel and learn a language or two before applying to a masters in speech pathology. I am very active and love things like football, hiking and skiing. Skiing in the alps is a dream of mine.

I just returned from Brazil, where I not only learned the language but built so many beautiful connections which will definitely lure me back. Both back home and travelling, I am always astounded by my luck with having such amazing people cross paths with me.

I am an introvert in denial. I love spending time with people and therefore will say yes to nearly every activity with enthusiasm. I also enjoy some alone time to recharge, and I am working on respecting that to be able to give more of myself afterwards.

It is really important for me to make sure I am respectful of the space and belongings of others. I like to work hard, well and enjoy the process. I am not very hard to impress as I easily fall in love and appreciate the simple things of daily living. For this reason I would like to plan my next workaway for a little bit longer, to get to know the area and the people more personally.

    Looking forward to meeting you:)

  • More details about your skills

I had my first job at 15 years old, and have gained experience in many fields since. Always having great bosses and coworkers, there weren't many I did not enjoy. I have worked physical jobs such as soccer/football referee, landscaper and gardener, as well as a little bit of demolition and construction. I also have experience in the fields of childcare, tutoring, waitering in restaurants, real estate/hospitality and research.

I have tutored mainly in science subjects as well as in French and English. I am very passionate about language exchange as I believe language to permit better understanding of different perspectives and cultural insight.

My most recent job was at a rental office, where I have been working for the past year and a half. My experience has brought me many skills in the administrative side of apartment rentals, problem solving within the hospitality domain as well as exposed me to an international clientele. I also worked in a hostel as my first workaway experience in Rio de Janeiro, which I loved so very much.

I get along with the public and clients very easily. I love participating in the creation of a productively fun atmosphere. I always develop great relationships with my coworkers, which is what I value most.

I speak French, English, Spanish, most recently Portuguese and would more than adore putting any of these these to good use. I am currently learning German, and am very motivated to put that one on the list ASAP!

  • What else ...

I was blessed with the opportunity to live abroad at 17, in a country I did not previously speak the language, in a host family for one year. I learned a lot about adapting to a different culture and dealing with culture shocks and homesickness. To this day, we still keep in touch regularly and I will forever hold them so dearly in my heart (Update: I went to visit them after 7 years and it was so amazing!!). I am now a volunteer for a program in which we organize orientations for exchange students living in my city, to help them integrate as well as help them deal with challenging situations living abroad can induce. This program has provided me with experience regarding long term travelling and integration, which leads me to believe integrating myself into a new lifestyle, home and country again would come with ease and beautiful memories.
