Description

Hello, my name is Hugh. I am currently living and working in Nelson, BC, having spent my time since the start of November at two different workaways in the east Kootenays. I am originally from central Scotland and was living most recently in Glasgow. Before that I was in Manchester.

Looking to meet new people in the Kootenays atm, and workaways on the coast around Spring time. Here is a bit about me and my experience -

In 2017 I volunteered on an organic farm in southern Italy (as part of the WWOOF programme). My tasks there included sowing seed, making compost, planting, cutting wood, weeding, and harvesting fruit and vegetables. I also helped with DIY tasks in and around the farm and house, including sanding, painting and repairing.

I have ​volunteered with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds), as part of an ecological conservation project on moorland near Manchester. The project focused on peatland restoration, which we achieved by installing gully blocks, planting sphagnum moss and removing invasive species in an attempt to increase biodiversity in the area.

I also have also worked for a number of UK based charities, including The Red Cross, NSPCC and a local charity in Manchester called LINK Good Neighbours, which works towards reducing isolation and loneliness for seniors in the community.

I'm fit and able, and love working outside, and with my my hands! I'm a quick learner, and enjoy learning new things with other people.

I have a full, clean BC driving license and own a car (which I plan to sleep in in the summer!)

I am an avid naturalist and enjoy spending my free time outside hiking and camping (when it's warmer!). I also have a passion for music and for food and love cooking for friends.

I can cook quite well. I can drive. I have experience in working with and caring for elderly people and people living with both physical and mental illnesses. I am a good communicator and enjoy working directly with people. I love animals too.
I love learning and can easily pick up new skills.
I am a creative person and enjoy making music and art. I also love working outside and and exploring new places.
