  • Description

I am a passionate traveler who thoroughly enjoys experiencing different cultures, exploring natural landscapes, and connecting with new people! I feel most alive when I'm following my curiosity, gaining new perspectives, and going on spontaneous adventures.

Growing up I traveled all over the US on road trips with my family, but it wasn’t until high school when I went on my first trip abroad that my love for travel really began. With my school I went on a group trip to Europe and then Peru the following year.

In Peru our group participated in a service project in an indigenous community on lake Titicaca, where we worked alongside locals to construct a walking path throughout the village and then were welcomed into the homes of locals for a couple nights. It was here that I was learned first hand about the Andean concept of Ayni—a practice of reciprocity in which those in of the community help out a member in a time of need, and are then returned the favor through another form of aid, or as in our case, hospitality.

Ever since this experience, the concept of Ayni has stuck with me, impacting the way I see world, giving me a greater appreciation for communities like the one in Peru—where lending a helping hand to others is an integral part of the way of life. This sparked a curiosity within me to discover similar concepts in communities all over this vast world of ours. There is a lot to learn from each the different way of living—and travel via volunteering seems like the perfect way to witness similar concepts in action.

After Peru, and following my graduation from high school, I went on my first self-planned trip abroad—backpacking around Europe with my cousins and brother—which only further provoked my sense of wanderlust. Since then my travels have stayed within North America, exploring more states in the Western U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, as well as Mexico.

Last summer I spent a few months living and working in Seward, AK where I’ve really learned the benefits of slow travel. I love the opportunities that slow travel grants you—through friendship with locals and witnessing the day to day normalities—to truly discover the essence of one particular place.

I’m ready to get back to exploring new countries, and after reflecting back on the impact of volunteer work, as well as learning all about what slow travel has to offer, I’m eager to travel & volunteer with Workaway.

I am a yoga instructor with a 200-hr YTT certification, and have experience leading group classes, working at a studio, providing private sessions over video chat. I find so much value yoga, not just for the physical benefits but also the mental & spiritual benefits brought through the combination of breath, asana (poses), and mindfulness.

I love spending time in nature—hiking, camping, chilling in a hammock—really anything that allows me to connect with the Earth. I feel most at peace in the mountains, surrounded by trees and near a body of water, but love to seek out different environments as well.
