  • Description

I always struggle with these kind of descriptions about yourself so here are some random facts that came to mind (in no particular order):

    - I am kind of addicted to apples. I usually eat about 2-3 a day
    - I spend a lot of time reading, but it is always changing what I am into at the moment. (currently I'm reading a book on maps and one on the combination of nature and art. And there is always a novel but I go through them more quickly)
    - my favourite number is 735
    - the fight against climate change is a big part of my life. I chose to study Geography because of that and I have been active in the climate movement back home for years (mainly on the university level)
    - I guess I am a typical German because I think bread is amazing and one of the best things humans have invented (that being said, I had to learned that I have to be careful about what other cultures call 'bread' - so check out German bread if you haven't already)
    - I've always loved cycling, but this spring I fell in love with bikepacking. I am out with my bike and my tent on most weekends nowadays. I really love being in nature for an extended time, riding though forests, meadows and along lakes. And it is amazing to see what my body is capable of.
    - going on hikes is pretty great as well :))
    - my signature chocolate cake is made with sauerkraut (don't worry you can't taste it)
    - I like talking about politics and the state of the world and listen to a lot of podcast about that topic
    - I almost studied art, but then it became geography - I still like sketching though
    - I am always up for dancing - any kind :)

And maybe a brief summary on what I am doing right now. I study Geography in Berlin and will do an exchange year at Helsinki University from September onward. Until then I hope to get to know Finnland and its people a little bit

More details about my language interests
I've been learning Finnish for a few weeks now. You probably ask yourself why because eveyone will switch to Englsish anyway as soon as they hear me speak, but honestly it is so much fun learning a new language. My level is far from being able to have my stay in Finnish but it would be great if I could ask you some questions on the Finnish language once in a while :) Of cause I am happy to teach you some German as well or talk to you in German if you speak some already.

  • More details about your skills

    wood work, ...:
I have no formal training but I have built many of the furniture in my flat myself (bed, desk, kitchen selfs ...) and would consider myself able to do many tasks in that area - especially if we talk about what you want me to do. In generall I really like working with my hands, may it be building new things or repairing old stuff

    gardening:
I am part of the team of our Uni-graden-project and always enjoyed that. I've always lived in flats though so my experience in an acutall bigger garden is limited. But I would love to spend some time with plants and I am definately not afraid of getting my hands dirty

    cooking:
I am used to cooking for myself on a daily basis. I have been vegan for quite a while now and have to admit I would not feel comfortable if I had to cook meat (vegetarian would be ok but I would prefer to cook vegan dishes if I am the one making meals) I also think the best part of cooking is chopping vegetables which many people seem to hate. So maybe cooking together could be fun?

    child care:
I've been an AuPair in the States after high school for 2 years. I took care of a two year old boy for most of the time, but also for two girls (7 and 13) half of the time (patchwork family). During that time I really experienced what it means to take care of children. I know how exhausting and demanding it can be, but also how great it is most times - for example when kids remind you to see the world through a different lens.

    other:
I also have a strong background in R (the programming language) I doubt that will ever come in handy in a Workaway setting, but who knows...
