  • Description

I am an easygoing and caring individual who loves meeting new people, discovering new places, learning new skills or simply living and enjoying life as it comes.
I come from a small village in Slovakia where I lived with my parents and my younger sister. In 2005, after I finished business college in the nearby town I packed my suitcase and bought one way ticket to England. I must admit it was the most scariest decision I have ever made but it has paid off. I lived with an English family in a small town called Harrogate for 3 years. I studied English language in a local college while working as an au-pair/nanny during the week and as a waitress at the weekends. I was very homesick at first but making new friends had helped me to overcome feeling isolated and being apart from my family. I enjoyed studying English so much that I decided to continue my studies at University. So, I moved to Sheffield in 2008 and began to live a life of a student. Well, not really. I had to support myself financially and so I started working as a receptionist in a small hotel. I have gained some valuable administrative skills while working in this profession. In 2001 I obtained a degree in Teaching English to speakers of other languages and had been working in a secondary school (age 11 – 16) until October 2022. I find working with young children very rewarding. In October last year I decided to finish my teaching job and travel. I spent 3 months in the mountains in Slovakia, helping my friend with her B&B during a busy winter season. I spent spring and summer time in a small town called Peschici, in Puglia where I lived with an Italian family and helped them to run their small B&B. I'm currently in Pompeii teaching English in a private language school.

  • What else ...

If I am not working, I love spending time outdoors and observing peaceful nature. While living in the UK I became a Ramblers member and walked with a local hiking group at the weekends and eventually ended up leading the walks myself in the local national park ‚The Peak District‘. I had been hiking with the group for the past 4 years and occasionally took part in a hiking tour in places such as Scotland, Snowdonia, North York Moors and Devon.
When working in school I encouraged my students to become passionate about nature and hiking by helping my colleague with running a DofE programme where our students undertook a training to become independent hikers. In my final year I became a DofE manager and run two bronze expeditions for our students which I really enjoyed.

Growing up in a village I was always surrounded by countryside and nature. I enjoyed helping my grandparents to look after domestic animals such as chickens, rabbits or sheep and my parents with gardening and growing our own vegetable. I am hoping to do some gardening on my workaway travels.

I also like hiking, cycling, jogging, skiing, cooking, baking, watching movies, listening to music, reading non fiction and fiction books or eating out with friends and camping. I also practice yoga at a beginner level. I would like to experience and potentially learn about sailing and try wild camping.
