I consider myself a nomad, an expat, and a very slow traveler. After saving up and quitting my job in 2017, I hit the road and have been on—and off—the road ever since. I’ve mostly backpacked and, in 2019, cycled 3,000 km from Thailand to Malaysia. I love long-distance hiking trails and have trekked in the Annapurna Region of Nepal, the Pekoe Trail in Sri Lanka, the Lycian Way in Turkey, and many others around the globe.
The "off" part of my journey includes nearly four years of settling down—both in rural and central Thailand, as well as Turkey, between 2020 and 2024. During these breaks from traveling, I built a stable foundation that allows me to balance making a living, growing a career, and living like a "free bird." In 2020, I happened to run a hostel—one that belonged to a friend, which I temporarily took over. From 2021 to 2022, I worked in Thailand as an EFL teacher. I spent the whole of 2023 in Turkey, on the beautiful Mediterranean coast, where I took sailing courses—so now I have some qualifications on paper, though very little experience at sea.
Overall, during these four years off the road, besides teaching in Thailand, I ran summer camps, served as a homeschool consultant for parents teaching their children literacy (I am a CELTA-certified and Jolly Phonics EFL tutor), and worked as a hiking guide on the Lycian Way. In a nutshell, I work professionally as a tutor, teacher trainer and sworn translator, but I also jump at any opportunity to guide hiking and biking trips whenever and wherever I can.
I hope to run my own guesthouse one day, so I’m particularly interested in tourism- and hostel-related roles. That said, I’m equally excited about teaching-focused NGOs, boat-related work, or anything outdoors. I’m also passionate about sustainable projects and community living — having been part of large, agriculture-based communities before both in Thailand and Turkey, I’d be more than happy to contribute to similar initiatives.
I hit the road again with my backpack in October 2024, starting my journey in Sri Lanka. After spending three wonderful months there, I continued to Malaysia. As of January 2025, I’m cycling from Kuala Lumpur toward Indonesia and the Philippines, with plans to finish my journey in Japan via South Korea.Interessengebiete
