  • Beschreibung

My friends describe me as a renaissance woman.

I like to learn new languages, take apart cars, backpack in the wilderness, teach English, grow my own food, play theater games, and fold storytelling into public speaking. Recent classes I've taken include watercolor painting, comedic improve, conflict resolution, kayaking, qi gong, motorcycle rider training. I love the complementary process of learning and teaching.

I've worked primarily in the fields of education and wilderness conservation over the last 20 years. I'm most recently worked at the University of Southern California supporting students working to implement sustainability initiatives. At non-profit watershed councils and land trusts, I've led hundreds of people to plant thousands of trees, pick up garbage, and gather scientific data!

I've participated in one Workaway thus far and have also had some fabulous experiencing WWOOFing (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) throughout the United States. My favorite work trade experience thus far has been a month spent in a roadside fruit-stand making crepes and smoothies for those traveling the Hana Highway on the island of Maui. I love the environment and exchange that work trade facilitates. It's connected me to some amazing people and allowed me to try things I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.

Check out my photo album to see me in action. I'd describe myself as friendly, calm, funny, mature, and relaxed. You can catch me fixing my car, guiding group hikes, working at an urban garden, and leading events out in the wilderness. Note the electric guitar is one I built myself with my own two hands. I hope you'll get the sense that I'm an active, interesting, and friendly person that can enthusiastically contribute to your Workaway opportunity in a myriad of ways!

  • Was könntest du arbeiten?

It's hard to list all of my skills and offerings here. I love working with my hands, solving problems, and thinking creatively. As someone who's made a profession of working with volunteers, I've developed a knack for authentically connecting with all types of people. I also have a unique perspective on the benefits and challenges of working with volunteers, which means I like to bring thoughtfulness, communication, and commitment to those opportunities I say yes to.

Skills: conversation, teaching, language learning, communication, customer service, cleaning, gardening, landscaping, general maintenance, tour/interpretive/outdoor guide, event planning, web design support, wilderness first aid, problem solving, and much more.
