Hola, hello, halo! We are Frank (37) and Simone (33), a Dutch couple on a sabbatical in Spain. Our self-built VW campervan brings us all the way to southern Spain and surroundings from January until June 2024. With a dream to start a place for outdoor, sports and nature lovers some day here. We use this career-break to learn, experience and live the (rural) Spanish life in the various Spanish regions.

Frank describes himself as an all round handyman/builder with a passion for automotive and tech. A few of his showpieces are our own fully renovated house in the Netherlands, of course our VW campervan, a classic Alfa Romeo 1300 GT junior and many other smaller projects. He is eager to learn about improving his woodworking skills and any other technical skills in and around the house.

Simone is interested in learning about sustainable (biodynamic) agriculture and is open to help out on other tasks (related to food :)). Working as a freelance journalist, she can help out with writing and research, and has the ambition to learn and improve photography skills. She loves to be outdoors and to do sports, especially cycling and running.

Apart from Frank’s motorcycle and our campervan, we will bring our gravelbikes with us to explore different areas.

In January we have been living in workaway houses in the Valencian province, doing DIY and setting up a kitchen garden, stripping and ploughing land for it to be ready to be used as agricultural land, varnishing the yoga deck etc. Simone wrote some blogs for the agro-tourism company that hosted us, did research on local history and potential partners and she helped out on marketing and market research that might be useful to expand and improve this agri-tourism business. In February we were taking Spanish classes in Malaga, and with this Spanish proficiency as a starting point (B1 DELE) we hope to improve our language skills significantly in the weeks/months to come. Workaway will be hopefully help to fulfill this ambition.

Workaway would be an ideal way to work on our skills and help you out where we can, get to know Spanish life and food (production) and learn from each other. Therefore we are open to placements for 1-3 weeks each.

Frank and Simone are both learning Spanish. We already have some knowledge of the language (B1). In February we are taking a intensive 4 week course in Malaga.

We use this career-break to learn, experience and live the (rural) Spanish life in the various Andalucian regions.
