Currently in Brazil, and will be in Mexico from April onwards!

Beschreibung

I am a 32 year old queer South African woman travelling with my closest friend (more like a sister). After living in Mexico for 4 months last year, I have decided to return there to live for a while. I am currently at home in Cape Town preparing to make the move. I am endlessly excited to be stopping in Brazil for a few weeks on the way!

Trained as an urban planner, for the last 5 years I worked an intensive NGO job in my home city of Cape Town focusing on urban land justice and affordable housing. I worked as a researcher, popular educator and arts facilitator with social movements. After this intense experience, I am currently taking some time to process and reflect on these years as well as learn from cultural exchange, towards building a stronger personal practice that allows me to be useful in a world in crisis.

I believe that community and connection is everything.

At the moment in order to sustain myself I need to do 14 hours a week of virtual research work so unfortunately, I do need wifi. This research focuses on urban food security in African cities and what can be done to improve it.

Over the years I have worked as a studio manager for a mural artist, worked for catering companies, volunteered in permaculture gardens, learned about fermentation, been an artist's photographer, managed restaurants, trained in different art mediums, run the social media for community mutual aid initiatives and more. I am a quick learner, very hands on, keen to be outdoors and self-motivated.

In 2010 I did an incredible Workaway in Turkey that really broadened my perspective and allowed me to experience different ways of living. My experience on a Workaway last year in Mexico was really a highlight of my year, and I walked away with new skills in construction and design, lifelong friends and a rich experience of true cultural exchange.
