Hi there!

I'm Paul, I grew up in Scotland and since my teens I've loved travelling and hiking all around Scotland and have explored most of the islands and beautiful coastline. I originally studied to be a Doctor but changed and went onto studying Environmental Science and worked 10 years in Environmental Research, Sustainability & Climate Change. My passion is for protecting the unique and beautiful natural environments we have around the world- particularly in national parks- and protecting biodiversity. Wild places are so important to our physical and mental health and I'm always happiest when hiking up a mountain, kayaking on a lake or sailing on the water :)

I've travelled quite extensively over the years including 2.5 years in Canada, 3.5 years in New Zealand, 1 year in Norway and 8 months across South America. During that time I have volunteered at several wwoofing and workaway / helpx hosts and had some great experiences doing so. I've helped with everything from gardening, carpentry, housekeeping, hostel management, website & admin, construction.

I also have a lot of event management experience as I've been a festival director for 2 film festivals back in Scotland as well as managed two festivals during my time in Canada.

My main hobbies include:- hiking, rock climbing, canoeing and sailing. I also have a strong passion for music, however it's been many years since I've picked up my guitar or played the piano- but this is something I want to focus on more this coming year.

I have done a lot of volunteer exchanges in the past and workaway is a great network as it allows you to go to new places, meeting amazing people and working on interesting projects. I hope the opportunity to volunteer with you will be fun and enjoyable and I'm always happy to lend a hand and I'm very energetic / responsible when it comes to working and happy to be given instructions and left to get on with the work.

I have not used Workaway before however I am a veteran of WWOOFing I volunteered with about 6 different WWOOF hosts in New Zealand and 3 more in Scotland. Happy to put you in touch with previous hosts.

I have done volunteering for a couple of hostels / backpackers in Scotland.

I have also volunteered for various charities over the years including the Mountain Bothies Association in Scotland- helping with renovation of some of hiking huts in Scotland.
