Hey! I'm Pippa (27), I am from the UK but have been travelling since October 2022 when I left London hoping to escape the rat race and find a slower more intentional pace of life. I spent a year and a half travelling from Mexico to Colombia with my ex-partner (who is mentioned in some of my reviews but its just me solo travelling now) and we made the most incredible memories along the way - a big part in thanks to workaway and the people we met through this platform.

A little bit about me... I got the travel bug at a very young age and I feel that the experiences I have had and people I met along the way have shaped me to become the laid back, purpose driven person I am today. I'm a very optimistic solution-oriented person, I love to learn new skills and I'm happy to get stuck in with pretty much any task. I studied Politics and Spanish at university and whilst I quickly realised I'd never go into politics, it forged a love of philosophical and intellectually stimulating conversation. That said, I like to think I have a pretty good sense of humour and also like to play and joke - what's life for if not to have a bit of fun!

What else... I am passionate about social justice and have spent a lot of my time working with refugees, homeless people and people with mental health issues - both professionally and as a volunteer. That love of people and desire to do what I can to help has led me to my current career as a somatic therapist and educator. So it's important to know that I am a digital nomad and I have my own business which I'd need to tend to for a couple of hours a day. I'm lucky that I can generally set my own schedule but sometimes I do have commitments such as regular online sessions with clients. I'm really passionate about helping people build the relationship between their mind, body and soul and to understand that the body is our best friend in life, always trying to keep us safe! So I'd be up for giving talks, offering breathwork sessions and/or doing some kind of energy exchange when it comes to TVM (the trauma healing modality I practice).

I have a dream of one day building my own home and growing my own food so would love to learn about permaculture and natural building techniques. I have a campervan so I am quite flexible in terms of coming with my own accommodation and transport, but ideally it would be great to have access to a spot where I've got a decent internet connection and somewhere to have a shower in the mornings.

What I can offer... an enthusiastic, committed PMA (positive mental attitude)! I love cooking and can make delicious vegan food. I enjoy being outdoors in nature and am pretty physically fit to be able to get stuck in with manual labour. From setting up and running my own business, I have experience of all the administration/ marketing / website building / social media side of things which I'd be happy to lend a hand with. I'm a very creative person and I love to draw and paint. I've also just spent a couple of months renovating my camper van so I know how to use power tools / build some simple carpentry projects and decorate. I'm sure there's more but that can be discovered through conversation and meeting each other.

Worth mentioning: I follow a vegan lifestyle and obviously have my own reasons/ beliefs around that. Whilst I don't push my beliefs on others or expect those around me to follow the same diet, you should know that I wouldn't be comfortable cooking/ handling meat or looking after animals that are going to be sent to slaughter. Thanks for understanding!

I retrained as a trauma release bodyworker. From my experience in this field, I am an empathic communicator and I am able to hold space for people to process their emotions. I'm able to stay grounded under pressure and am good at facilitating team work.

I have previously worked as an English teacher in Spain and gained my TEFL qualification there. I have used my skills as a teacher through volunteering and am comfortable quickly learning new skills as well as imparting my own knowledge.

I have spent a lot of time volunteering with refugees in the UK and northern France and have developed a hands on practical approach; through the skills I developed in my work as a project manager I'm able to keep teams on track. I am a creative person and love drawing, painting and anything that requires an eye for aesthetic. I am also an energetic and athletic person and am happy to get stuck in with any manual jobs.

So far on our travels we have had three volunteering experiences which have varied massively and we've learned loads from.
1- We volunteered in a migrant centre in Guadalajara. Here we took the lead on projects such as cooking meals for 50+ people, ensuring migrants were properly processed and sorting donations. We really learned teamwork here and commitment to doing not-so-glamorous jobs for the greater good.

2- We volunteered in a hostel in San Jose del Cabo. This was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed using our social and outgoing personalities to make guests feel at home. We were responsible for the hostel while on shift and used our time management and initiative to make sure the hostel was ready each day and the guests were engaged.

3- We volunteered at a spirituality and nature retreat in Oaxaca. We mostly helped in the kitchen, using our creativity to come up with new and delicious meals for the guests. We were always up for getting stuck into any task and helped out sometimes with jobs such as landscaping and building fires.

  • Was noch ...

Pippa - I love all things plants!! I have my own collection of houseplants and am super interested in learning all about their properties, how to take care of them and best of all... if they're edible, how to cook them. I enjoy learning about cultures through food and consider myself pretty handy in the kitchen. I love to cook vegan food and would be really interested in learning about how to grow my own food. I love politics and philosophy and am always up for deep, illuminating chats. I have a guitar and a basic wooden flute with me in my van and I'd really love to learn to play them.
