We are Peter and Anne from Brussels, Belgium. We both used to travel a lot and we thought it was time to show our 7 years old daughter a bit of the world. We’ll be away form home for 5 months. Our plan is to combine travelling with family exchanges and enjoy nature and peaceful settings.

As already mentioned, we used to travel a lot in the past. We have visited several countries in different continents and have always loved travelling. The last ten years, our lives have changed quite a bit. We have settled down in Brussels, started a job (actually we both teach Dutch to newcomers in Belgium) and we got a lovely daughter, Fien, who is about to turn 7 years and who is very curious about the world around her …

For a couple of years we’ve been thinking about taking a break from everyday life and doing something else for a while, to get new energy and look at things from a different perspective. Now that Fien is almost 7 years old, we think she’s at the right age to fully enjoy a trip like this and have an experience she’ll never forget :-)

One of the main ideas of this trip is to be in a context that is very different from the one we live in. We want to leave the big city behind for a while and enjoy life in a natural environment, a place with mountains and with the sea close by. Above that, being from Belgium, it’s important for us to go to a place that has abundant sun :-) The Canary Islands seemed like a perfect match to us! And to top it: we both speak Spanish well, so communication should be fairly easy …

As Fien is an only child we thought it would be a nice idea to search contact with families with children. Moreover, we are not the kind of tourists / travellers wanting to see as many things as possible as quickly as we can. We prefer to take our time, blend in with some locals and get to learn more that way … Workaway seems like a nice way of doing this.

It might also be interesting to mention that both of us have done volunteer / wwoofing projects in different countries in the past (Ecuador, Argentina, Colombia, Nepal). So, it’s nothing new to us. It has just been a long time ago since we’ve done something alike, but we’re ready for it!

According to Anne, Peter is more of an extravert person who enjoys taking part in conversations. Peter agrees.

According to Peter, Anne is more of an introverted person, more of a listener. Anne agrees to this :-)

Fien’s hobby is drawing and creating in general. Anne practices yoga a couple of times a week. Peter was doing capoeira until recently, but this is on a low level due to a knee problem.

When getting to know new children, Fien often observes a bit for a while before making contact, but she surely loves to play with other kids.

As a family, we love to hike together (although we often have to convince Fien 😉). Sometimes we like to go for a swim. And of course, we like to play games once in a while.

- Anne likes to do gardening.
- We both like to cook.
- We are happy to do any kind of job you give us, if it doesn't require very specific technical skills. We are open to learn new things.
- We both speak several languages (Dutch, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese (Peter) ).

Was noch ...

We both speak several languages and like to communicate in each one of them with you. However, we are not planning to do any teaching of them. Our plan is to break away from everyday life; teaching languages IS our daily life. Our goal is to do something different :-)
