Curious, considerate , open-minded people with a good sense of humour and active lifestyles, we are Lucy and Lorenzo. Lucy is a 29 year old Australian and Lorenzo a 30 year old Argentinian. We are both artists and always keen to engage in learning opportunities. What brings us happiness is cooking, practicing yoga and meditation, reading, being outdoors, meeting new people and having rich conversation.

Customer service and hospitality expert, Lucy has worked in Melbourne's exciting food industry and art scene for thirteen years. With excellent interpersonal and people skills, she has experience offering help to others in lots of different scenarios at film festivals, comedy festivals, museums, restaurants, art galleries and cafes.

As an artist Lucy has run drawing workshops for adults at music festivals and worked in event curation and facilitation. Lucy also has experience working with children and young people in creatives environments. Lucy loves cooking and learning about produce and how to provide meaningful experiences for others through food and gathering.

Lorenzo has being travelling over the past three years working inside hospitality and customer service professions. Living in Germany and Australia was excellent for developing upon his acquired English and German language skills. Across this time Lorenzo had the opportunity to share in life and work with people from many different cultural backgrounds. He is able to work in teams and also independently. Lorenzo is a very focused person, working to publish his first book this year whist undertaking self-led studies in literature and philosophy.

We have experience living together on a remote communal self-sufficient vegetable and flower farm property in New South Wales, Australia. We also have previous WOOFING experience and are happy to request a letter of recommendation from our previous hosts.

vom Host (Unconventional farm focused ...) für Workawayer ()

Our experience with Lorenzo and Lucy was, unfortunately, not very positive. From the beginning, there were challenges with communication and commitment. Lucy initially canceled her stay just a week before her scheduled arrival, saying she would come at a later date. However, after a disagreement with Lorenzo, she never showed up. Later, she asked… read more to come for just three days, which did not meet our 15-day minimum. We tried to accommodate her by offering a discounted rate for a private stay, but she ultimately never followed through.

Lorenzo, who did come, was not close to being a good volunteer. While he was sometimes friendly, his work performance left much to be desired. He treated the experience more like a vacation than a volunteer program, often disappearing after completing a task instead of checking in for the next one. He only did exactly what was asked, never taking initiative, and failed to show up for several scheduled shifts. His laid-back attitude came across as disengaged and unmotivated, and he seemed largely indifferent to the work.

Throughout his stay, it became increasingly clear that Lorenzo wasn’t here for the experience of learning or contributing to the project. His behavior began to affect the rest of the team, and we received numerous complaints from both staff and fellow volunteers about his attitude. In fact, everyone on the farm was pressuring me to ask him to leave, as they simply couldn’t deal with his presence any longer. The volunteer house was left unclean, and the overall work dynamic was noticeably disrupted.

Despite expressing dissatisfaction with the experience, Lorenzo kept requesting to extend his stay. He extended twice, and when we declined the third request, he became frustrated and upset. Even after being told it was time to leave, it took him four more days to actually depart.

Lorenzo was here during a period when I was not present, and right before my vacation, so I wasn’t able to provide more direct guidance. However, based on the consistent feedback from my team and the visible impact on the group's morale, this was one of the most challenging volunteer experiences we've had.

Unfortunately, given his lack of commitment, poor performance, disruptive influence, and the fact that he treated the experience like a holiday camp, we would not host Lorenzo again in the future.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Unconventional farm focused ...)

Hello people! Here is my experience at this place:

I spent a month at the fazenda, it is basically a place of recreation: Generally people come for a few nights to enjoy the facilities and the tranquility of the place. It is totally focused on tourism. No coffee farm operating.

Volunteer task: basically consists of cleaning, outside or inside.… read more Clean the gardens or simply the house where people stay or in the kitchen.

About the host: Only interact with bruno, the owner of the place. I saw him pass by several times in his car, he never stopped to say hello until the second day. Every time he had a meeting to explain something about the place, he always arrived two or three hours late or in some cases he didn't show up.

The organization and communication during my stay: with the volunteers it was not good, in general we had to wait a week for them to send us food or sometimes send several lists and several messages, which you will realise is annoying for both sides to be asking for food all the time.

Like I said, I'm sharing my experience, which doesn't mean yours will be like that.

The house: I shared the space with 5 other people, 2 of whom left their stage early due to this issue of organisation and not feeling comfortable. The house was not in good condition, water was basically leaking through the roof everywhere. On several occasions we got up in the middle of the night to move the beds so they didn't get wet.

Staff of the place: In the kitchen, there is a hostile atmosphere sometimes. On several occasions I was treated very rudely by one of the women who works there. Only the two people who work in the garden part were very friendly, Iago and his grandfather.

Extra comments: Actually many things that are promised in the publication are not real. such as working on weekends, which we did a few times. Also, one of the volunteers was told that she could teach yoga classes, which was also not true.
In this place I doubt that you can find a community experience and enter the “Brazilian Culture” But you can make good friends in the volunteer house.

Situation with the host: As I mentioned before, everything was quite disorganised and in my case I had a situation with Bruno. I asked him if I could stay (at the beginning of my stay) an extra week, which he told me would be no problem. But suddenly one day, he sent me a message telling me that I had to leave the place in three days, I have no idea why exactly. Of course I responded that I would, but that I would have liked him to tell me in advance, or at least in person. In the message he stated that there was not much to do in those days and that it was very expensive to maintain volunteers and also that there was no room in the house. The way he handled this situation is totally inappropriate, dismissing someone like that with a message speaks of his rudeness at the very least.

As I said before, this was my experience, each one is different and I don't want to be ungrateful at any point, but also don't want to be unfair and really share how I felt. Maybe it was just a bad time to arrive or maybe this happened before, after all there are only 60 comments on the page but hundred of people have volunteered.

I hope that if you decide to go, you have better luck than me. I definitely wouldn't go back.
